This was a charming base for us to explore this history rich locale. From ancient friaries to neolithic sites, it was perfect. Coming home to a fire was the perfect ending to our days if exploring.
We loved the donkeys and the water and the amazing view and lots of windows to enjoy from inside near a cozy fire.
I loved waking up to the sunrise from our room. We didn’t shut the shades upstairs because we loved looking at the starry night too.
We loved everything about our stay here! The house is spacious and well equipped with beautiful views out of every window. The property itself is very private and the surrounding community is idyllic. Martina greeted us warmly and was very responsive to our needs throughout the visit. Would love to come back!
The title says it all. This place felt like our home away from home. It was comfortable from the get-go. We've stayed in plenty of VRBOs over the years that are all well and good, but rarely do they feel like this. Add in the view towards the lake and the donkeys just over the wall in the front, and it was perfect.
I'd note that while the location is about a 30 minute drive to Galway or Cong, it's less than 10 minutes into Headford to find a big Tesco and gas stations. And it was always so nice to come back here after a long day out.
TL,DR: Highly recommend and would return.
This was one of the most welcoming and relaxing homes we’ve ever stayed in. The location was quiet and rural, but central enough to allow us to visit many locations across the region and have a relaxing base to return to. Norma is a wonderful host and we highly recommend this property!
Lovely quiet getaway. Kids loved having donkeys in the garden. Walking down to the lough and just sitting looking out over the water was so relaxing. The roads around the property are amazing! Very narrow but unlike UK no potholes!

Beautiful home and very accommodating.
We loved the home. We enjoyed the 3 donkeys each morning. Very quiet and private
This is a beautiful house in a perfect lakeside setting. My family loved the donkeys and walking on the property.
Norma and Martina are very nice and attentive to any needs.
We used the lovely cottage on the lake as our base and traveled all over southern and central Ireland. We had three generations and loved our time in the cottage. My father (79 years old) threatened to sell everything when he got home and move to Ireland. Everyone we met in Kilbeg and nearby Headford was just delightful. We found everything we needed nearby and could have stayed another 2 weeks. It is a very special place
This property is breathtaking. Norma and Martina are fabulous hosts. If you want to stay in a perfect Irish Country setting, this is the place. The Headford locals are so sweet and helpful. You are close to Galway, 30 minute drive. When I come back, not if, I’m going to check if Norma’s property is Ava liable. 5 Stars for everything.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful. The house is large and lovely. The grounds, including the donkeys on property were delightful. We arrived in late December and it was really cold in the house for the first day and night. However, the house heated up after that and we had no problems at all, as Norma left a more than ample supply of wood and peet to burn in the fireplace. We would definitely return to this property. Thank you, Norma and Martina.
Garden and location were amazing, very quiet and beautiful. The wildflowers, donkeys, & lake view made for an idyllic holiday.
Furnishings and decoration were typical of Ireland - country style, lots of wood and shelves with knick-knacks like shells and rocks. Beds were very comfy, lots of towels provided. Umbrellas, walking sticks and fireplace supplies were also v. handy. Crockery/cutlery/pots and pans more than enough even for larger groups, but could do with a few more cooking knives, spatulas and the like.
A particularly lovely touch was the delicious cake left for us on arrival. All in all, would recommend!
The cottage is in an ideal setting, with a lake at the bottom of the garden and donkeys in an adjacent field. The main rooms to the house overlook the lake and it is lovely to just sit and watch the world go by come rain or shine. Marina, who services the property is very friendly and is happy to answer any questions and is on-hand to resolve any issues.
We had a party of 7 and there was plenty of space both inside and outside of the property. Although the kitchen is small, it wasn't an issue for us as it had everything we needed - dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave. The rooms are spacious with plenty of storage space and the lounge is equipped with a selection of books, dvds and cds.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and would definitely go back, if only we could guarantee nice weather next time! ;-)
Absolutely fantastic home!! Spacious, roomy, clean, comfortable house with beautiful views of the lake. We had 4 adults and 3 children with more then enough room . So happy I brought no toys for the kids because there were plenty for them, plus games and books for the adults. The house has everything you need. Especially a kids room downstairs with 2 twin beds , bed railings and a playpen . I was especially grateful there was a baby gate at the top of the stairs. The kids had a wonderful time feeding the donkeys each day and running around the spacious gardens in the front and back. The local town is Headford and only took us about 10 minutes. There’s a large supermarket with everything you need, a playground, running track, pubs, take away. Galway city wasn’t more then 25 minutes away. The on-site manager was wonderful . She was very helpful, answered our many questions and kindly gave us a stroller when we lost ours at the airport.
Overall, we had the most wonderful stay and I will be back again. The house fit our every need! Thank you!!
We had lovely week long stay here, location is great for fishing on Lough Corrib, we had two boats morred at the bottom of garden. The cottage is spacious and facilities are good, we can't wait for next year trip. A big thumbs up from us.
We loved our visit to Kilbeg. Great house with lots of room for an extended family to spread out. Beautiful view of the lake. Extremely peaceful setting. The house is very well resourced for cooking and lots of games etc if weather is poor. Key holder Martina was very helpful. House was very clean. For some people to 10 minute drive to nearest shop / pub may be a disadvantage. Nearby pub closed due to Covid restrictions but only a short walk from house. We loved our break.
What a fabulous holiday we had at this beautiful home for 1 week, indeed I could have stayed for 2 weeks.
The view is stunning, so tranquil overlooking the lake, you could hear a pin drop.
The donkeys were joyous for both the adults and the kids.
Home from home, plenty of space, we all felt very relaxed here.
Everything we needed was in the house, including toys for the kids.
The beds were comfy and the showers were great too.
We even made apple crumble using apples from the garden and enjoyed picking fresh mint also for our drinks.
Perfect location for touring the surrounding areas, not too far from anywhere.
We visited Cong Village which was my favourite, had lunch at Ashford Castle, a lovely walk around the gardens at Westport House, a walk around Galway and Salthill together with a visit to Clifden and Kylemore Abbey.
We did a few hours touring in the afternoon then enjoyed a drink out on the patio on the comfy deckchairs on our return, with lovely family meals cooked later in the evening.
Lovely for different parts of the family to be doing their own thing in different parts of the large communal living area, whilst all remaining together.
The weather turned out much better than that forecast, rained usually when driving, then the sun shone every time we arrived at our destination.
Joyces supermarket in local village of Headford is well stocked with anything you require.
Unfortunately the local pub was closed due to Covid, but hopefully we will get a drink there next time.
Martina the host was very helpful and Norma the owner was also very quick to reply to any questions we had.
We will definitely return, the house and the location of it made the holiday so special.
Would highly recommend this property, especially if there is a large group.
Thanks Norma and Martina for your kind hospitality😊
