Historic Hawkesbury Homestead Estate, Swimming Pool, Tennis court, Wine Country.

Located in the heart of New Zealand's premier wine district, this beautiful Historic Homestead, overlooking a vineyard, is exclusively yours to enjoy. Hawkesbury was built in 1883 and has been tastefully restored in a country casual way. Set on 13 private acres, in a quiet valley neighboring the famous Marlborough wine trail and cycle route, Hawkesbury is one of the oldest character Homesteads in Marlborough. The history of the property and park like grounds with century old trees, create a timeless romantic setting from a bygone era. Ideal for just a couple or as a luxury recreational retreat for an entire family or group. It is complete with its' own private swimming pool, full size tennis court and bicycles. There are 5 bedrooms, 3 with private ensuits , 1 shared bathroom and a powder room. The grand master downstairs has a carved 4 poster bed, and en-suite with luxurious tiled shower, over sized claw foot bath and its' own private entrance. Upstairs, there are 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms, 3 open onto a spacious tiled veranda. We only accept 8 guests so 2 rooms can be used by single people. There are beautiful views overlooking the rose gardens, paddocks and vineyards, through to the distant surrounding mountains. The lounge features 12 foot ceilings, a large open fireplace and library. Directly adjoining this room is the sun-drenched dining room which flows directly onto a covered veranda with additional alfresco dining. This area overlooks the tennis court and magnificent eucalyptus trees. The sunny pool and courtyard area features another large covered veranda with circular table and barbecue. Ideal for evening alfresco dining with views to the lighted pool, fruit trees and park like grounds. Come home each day to the huge farm house kitchen after exploring vineyards, beaches, golfing, trout or deep sea fishing, hiking, biking, cycling, horse riding or just relax by the pool after a game of tennis.
Weddings can be accommodated upon enquiry. The bridal party can stay in the Homestead, the extensive grounds and gardens can be used for the ceremony and photography. No recption on the property though. A magical spot for tying the knott!
There is an 18 hole golf course 5 minutes away and 4 bicycles are provided to ride through the vineyards. Numerous wineries (over 60), producing Marlborough's world famous Sauvignon Blanc and other excellent wines, are only minutes away from this unique property. e.g. Villa Maria, Brancott, Highfield, Cloudy Bay, Alan Scotts, Wither Hill, Montana and Hunters, just to name a few. Many fine restaurants are also close by and you will soon see why Marlborough is considered NZ's 'Gourmet Province. Located in a peaceful rural valley, you are ideally situated to explore the upper half of the South Island. You are only 5 minutes from a small market town (Renwick), 15 minutes from Blenheim, (Marlboroughs main centre), 8 minutes from the local Blenheim airport, and 30 minutes from Picton and the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. To the South is Kaikoura, with world class whale watching and swimming with the dolphins center, to the west you are 90 minutes from the arts and crafts of Nelson, southwest is the high country and trout fishing in the Lakes. The airport has many daily direct/short flights to Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. This Historic Homestead, with its full facilities and surrounding acreage ensures a long lasting memory of peace, privacy and timeless tranquility.

If you appreciate historic settings, privacy, beautiful gardens and great location for visiting wineries this is the place for you! Our hosts were gracious and informative regarding the house and property. Comprehensive written guide for the house was very helpful. We would book again!

Beautiful location
The house and grounds were amazing, so private and peaceful. We loved our week away with our family playing games and enjoying the surroundings. There were fruit trees and a wee vege garden and our adult children loved the tennis court and pool. The hostess was very accommodating and knowledgable about not only the property but the area in general.

Enchanting Historic Home
What a privilege to stay at Hawkesbury Homestead! It is a gorgeous historic home with enormous windows offering views of the glorious grounds, gardens, trees, birds, bunnies and bees. We were all instantly enchanted. There is plenty to do: swim, play tennis, ride bikes, wander the grounds which are like an arboretum, meander down the country road, look at the vineyards and enjoy the gardens. Everything from bikes to a yoga mat to tennis racquets and balls and a fully stocked kitchen are carefully provided by hostess Stacey. Thoughtful touches abound, including fresh flowers throughout, wonderful beds and towels, soaps etc etc. Stying at Hawkesbury Homestead is like heaven on earth - we stayed two nights, and our only improvement would have been to stay much, much longer!

Fantastic holiday
Homestead, quiet, beautiful gardens, very comfortable. Appliances a little old, but this did not detract from the overall fantastic holiday experience. We highly recommend for a group getaway in the beautiful Marlborough region. You won’t be disappointed as my wife wasn’t! Owners lovely!

Unique, historic, funky, relaxing and fun
My wife and I stayed at this unique property for four nights in mid-Jan 2018. Hawkesbury Homestead's curb presence is outstanding; it's a beautiful looking home in an idyllic setting with large trees, flowers everywhere, and a vineyard just past the adjoining pasture. The owners are both very engaging and friendly and we enjoyed a glass of their own sauvignon blanc and some cheeses with them right after we arrived. There's a saltwater pool and a tennis court too. Just walking the grounds was very relaxing and my wife and I very much enjoyed sitting on the one of the many decks and just watching the world go by. The house is close to many cellar doors who are more than happy to have a visitor, and we spent a day riding the Hawkesbury Homestead bikes to various wineries. There are few what I would call indrastructure issues however. First, the beds are just queen sized. My wife and I haven't slept on a queen sized mattress in 20 years and the smaller size took a little getting used to. There is no air conditioning either and only one door and one small window has a screen, meaning bugs will come in, especially if you leave a window open and have a light on at night. It is an old house (built in 1883), and these are some of the issues that our ancestors faced. But this house seems to be pretty well insulated, and we found that we could capture the morning coolness all day and night. The kitchen works just fine and we grilled some lamb, sausages and pork over three nights after we acquired these items at the local farmers' market. There are tons of things to do nearby too and we found that we ran out of time to get to everything we wanted to see and try. Looking back I would give our entire Marlborough area experience five stars. We very much enjoyed staying at Hawkesbury Homestead too. My wife and I have rented many homes around the world and found this one to have a very unique personality.
