Centrally located
The day I arrived at night, the room given to me had poor lighting. Insufficient to see any thing. Corridors are dingy. Room was however clean and bathroom was good with a tub. Breakfast was ok. The staff tried making their best, especially Douglas and Peter. Overall, an average hotel. Good to stay if you are traveling single. Saw a couple of Australian couples staying at the hotel.

Eccentric but fascinating old place, full of photos and fittings from pre-Independence era when Harare was Salisbury and when the club was the place for Zimbabwean politicians from outside the capital to stay and do deals. Steak and chips dinner served from under a silver cloche memorable, as was open fire in the old wood-paneled bar. Slightly quirky service but part of the experience, have to experience it at least once.
The hotel is affordable.I had a nice experience with the friendly and helpful staff and had nice breakfasts but the overall room conditions are not pleasing, the bedding and rooms have a stench.
This hotel is perfectly located right in the middle of Harare. Everything is walking distance. The hotel is dated, but it is definitely has a unique character to it. The view from my window was spectacular and breakfast really fills you up.
hands down the worst hotel stay i have ever had anywhere in the world. this place shouldn't even be listed on this site. such a dump! no water in the rooms, appalling services and everything seems to be falling apart.

Relic being revitalised?
This is an interesting mixture, a private club and hotel.
Set in the centre of Harare it is a faded gem of the 1970's perhaps of the '80's.
The rooms are not large by American standards but more than adequate.
They are decorated from a bygone era with prints of nineteenth century England dominating.
This is because it was a club founded by the Brits in the nineteenth century although the current club was built as part of a complex in the 1960's.
There are grand reception rooms now used to house study groups and, on Sundays, prayer meetings.
There is a fine bar and dining room~I ate there and the food is good. Once again there is a link to the past~the breakfast is the "full English" variety and at my lunch custard was available.
No air conditioning seemed available but the public rooms were cool and quiet bedrooms cooled at night.
The bathrooms are large with combined bath and shower and although hot water takes a time to arrive it does eventually.
That, I suppose sums up the charm of the place. It is not the instant, immediate, comfort of some anodyne hotel chain where you earn "miles" for staying. It is more for those who have actually traveled miles and enjoy well earned comfort in relaxing surroundings.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with local members who came in for a drink after work.
The Club has new management in place to try and survive the changes of the last 50 years and revive the place.
Go.
