Great house to stay in with a private beach. Had everything we needed. We went down for a gymnastics competition and it was convenient for the venue. We didn't have good weather to take advantage of the beach but we would definitely stay again! Host was easy to reach and very responsive!

Perfect relaxing babymoon trip
The frisky dolphin was perfect for a low key and relaxing trip for my husband and I to take as we prepare for our first child due August. We stayed the last weekend of April to beginning of May and the weather was awesome. The private beach access was so nice and the sunrises each morning from the deck or the beach were simply gorgeous. Our dog loved the house, the deck (blocked off with no stairs which was nice) and doing walks on the beach. The house was cozy and a great size. One recommendation would be to update the living room couches to something a little more comfy. The area was quaint and small town vibe which we loved. We did a day trip to Jamestown one day and there’s plenty to do around and close by. Liz was great to work with when we had a minor issue that was out of her control near the end of our trip. She values her customers that stay here and it was much appreciated. We already have talked about wanting to come back sometime after the baby is born. Thanks again for a great few days!

Fun week in Hampton Roads!
As prior Hampton roads residents, we visit often. This year we decided on something besides a typical hotel and landed at the Frisky Dolphin! While the weather didn’t cooperate, we had great week! It was so nice to hear the waves as we fell asleep. The private beach was amazing and so quiet. The house itself was the perfect size for us (4 adults and 3 kids). The two decks were huge and while we didn’t get to enjoy them much, I can imagine how great they are when the weather is nice! The house is older but was very clean and well stocked with starter cleaning supplies. There were plenty of towels as well. My kids loved the toys and books that were there for them. The only suggestions we had we’re updating some of the kitchen cookware. They were very dated/well loved and made cooking difficult at times. Also, the living room furniture, while fitting to the “look” of the house, wasn’t very comfortable. Some of the outdoor furniture needed updates as well. Liz was an amazing host to work with, super responsive and easy to get in touch with. A new tv had been installed prior to our arrival and was on two end tables as a makeshift tv stand, as it was too big for the old stand. Liz asked if we wanted to have it “fixed” while we were there, which was very nice of her. We declined as it wasn’t a big deal. My husband also left something behind and she has been more than helpful with trying to find it and return it to us! I could definitely see us starting here again!

Great location with a nice private beach and plenty space indoor and outdoor.
My husband and I stayed with my 84 year old father-in-law and two kids, 9 and 11 years of age. The private beach was a super bonus and allowed for a nice walk to the public beach to enjoy the boardwalk. The sand path to the private beach was a clear of debris path with only a small dune to go over at the end. There were so many shells! The deck provided an excellent view of the sunrise and water, my father in law enjoyed the many options for seating and there was a small area where he could sit outside close to the house with minimum wind. The contract was very detailed, giving us clear direction of what was expected. The lights and receptacles required some investigation to determine what cut on what light (one bedroom had writing on the switches but it was blurred). Beds were comfy, extra blankets in small room had pet hair. There are two sets of stairs to access the main living area (which I had expected) but once in the house it was easily accessible for my elderly father in law. He had to only go downstairs to leave the house, the only thing downstairs was the washer/drawer and he did not have any desire to go to the loft that was accessed by the circular stairs. One of the bathrooms did have a bar for him to use to assist while taking a shower. My father in law said it was his favorite place we had taken him so far!

Frisky Dolphin trip
My wife, nephew, niece and I enjoyed our three night stay. The weather cooperated for the most part and we spent a little time on the beach using the private access. We didn't spend a lot of time at the house other than sleeping, as we were exploring Hampton-Norfolk-Virginia Beach for the first time. But it was safe, private and comfortable. There might have been a glitch in communicating with the property maintenance in between the last guest leaving and our arrival as there were a few dirty dishes out and their laundry still in the washing machine when we went to put our bedding in the morning we left. But those were super small inconveniences against all the positives. Liz was a good communicator through the Vrbo message system, which was much appreciated.

Our Frisky Dolphin Stay
We had no complaints. It was nice and spacious and a 50 foot walk to a nice private beach. We were there in December and it was a little chilly, but pleasant. Would definitely stay there again should we be headed to the Hampton area. Kudos to Liz.

Tucked-away slice of beach life
Frisky Dolphin is a great cottage nestled in between the marshy pines and dunes of Buckroe Beach. The views out of the entire eastern side of the house, via sliding glass doors, are show-stoppers. The house has everything you need to unplug on your own or host a few friends or family members - furniture set-up is great for this. Beyond the beach, which is so close and so great for dog walks, Phoebus and Fort Monroe are a mile+ south with great shops, pubs and seafood. I will definitely return!

Like a Second Home

Wonderful location
The closeness to the bay and the sunrises over the water were great. Loved that two bedrooms both had sliders to the deck. We were able to fall asleep to the sound of waves. The kitchen was well equipped. The area has a lot to offer and it was great to be so close to the public beach/boardwalk/pier and yet have our own private beach.

Super relaxing getaway
Beautiful Private beach in front of the house. Weather was gorgeous, no one around in the beach. Mid September is a great time to go to miss the crowds. Huge deck facing the water, you can just sit there and hear the waves crashing and relax. Only one thing that I can mention that we didn’t like was the sand spurs in the grass all around the house, they got stuck in my dogs paws every time we would go out to potty, so be aware of that, they are super painful. Other than that it was a wonderful house, property, beach and the host Liz was quick to respond to any questions I had! I would definitely go again!

Great 3 generation get-away!!
This was our second trip to the Frisky Dolphin and it was as great as our first stay. The beach and the gentle wave action is perfect for our young grandchildren. The proximity to the Buckrow playground and the new ice cream shop are great afternoon adventures. The water views from the deck were enjoyed by all ages! Great location!
We loved the location and views. We also saw dolphins from the porch. The accomodations were comfortable. I was a bit stressed out by the rules of cleaning because I was there with kids, but maybe I met the mark after stress cleaning before leaving.. The host seems accommodating and responsive.

Million Dollar View
While some of us remember outstanding or romantic sunsets at beach / vacation homes, the sunrises at this property set the stage for the beautiful day that lays ahead. The house sits on the a private beach where you can "beach comb", collect shells or even walk your dog! The neighbors are very nice and the neighborhood is just right for quiet, restful vacation. We even had a chance to see some early arriving dolphins right in front of the aptly named home!

The first night we were there we had no heat and the tempatutre was at 45'. the 2nd night we had no water. then we had to move to a 2nd house for 2 nights. When we could no longer stay there the property manager, Liz wanted us to go back to the first house even though it still had no water. She has been difficult about refunding the 2 nights w/o heat or water, charge for the 2 we were in 2nd house. and has not even said anything about refund for the 3 days we could not stay in a house with no water.

Left out a lot of details about who shot JOHN- such as failure to open cabinets and drip faucet for kitchen faucet on an outside wall as instructed prior to arrival- hence burst pipe and a lot of damages. Unbelievable is exactly how I would describe the situation. Trashed both homes, pet damages sent every vendor on Christmas day imaginable-moral of the story- no good deed goes unpunished.

We had a wonderful week. The house and beach access were as advertised. Our dog loved walking on the beach with us. My husband enjoys cooking and found everything he needed in the kitchen. We got fresh fish and shellfish from Graham & Rollins Hampton Seafood Market which is only a few miles away. We would certainly book again.

This house was everything you could want! It was beautifully furnished and had an amazing view. The deck overlooks the beach and if for some reason you can’t eat outside, there’s also an enclosed porch. Beautiful view of the sunrise every morning. Can’t wait to go vack!

Beautiful property with amazing views!
Highly recommend this home. Would give a top rating for cleanliness. Amazing ocean views from inside & from the spacious deck. Had a storm come through and the property owner was in contact every step of the way, which was so appreciated. A very comfortable home in a beautiful area. Kitchen well stocked for cooking! It was our first time in this area & the owner left a book full of information which was very helpful. Easy access to the private beach & an easy stroll to the public beach & fishing pier. Saw dolphins swimming off shore. Quiet neighborhood.

The Perfect Getaway
We had an amazing week! The private beach is perfect for kids, adults, and dogs alike. It’s not crowded, plenty of sand and light waves, and the wildlife was out in droves. We saw dolphins every day around sunset and even had some swim about 100 yards away. The house was clean, comfy, and spacious, with easy access to great restaurants, breweries, and grocery stores. It was our second time staying and we have already talked about going back for a third time! It was unseasonably hot so the A/C was struggling to keep the house cool. But the property managers hooked us up with multiple fans to help circulate the air and did everything they could to make us more comfortable. It was a crazy heat wave, even all the businesses we went to were having the same troubles, so it definitely wasn’t due to inadequate equipment at the home. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Perfect Beach Vacation Spot
I'm so happy we stumbled across The Frisky Dolphin. The house was perfect for us and the private beach and quiet community were ideal. We brought our kayaks and launched right off the beach and even saw dolphins on our last day. The house was clean and well appointed (yes, the living room furniture needs an upgrade, but it's fine) and we were very comfortable. The host answered all my questions quickly and communicated well. Highly recommend.

Fabulous/Private Family Beach Vacation
This was our second time staying at the Frisky Dolphin. We absolutely love it. This place is extremely kid and dog friendly. We have two kids, 3 and 4, and it was perfect for them. The beach is right there, easy to go back and forth to the house. There are other non-beach kid activities to do within 20 mins of the house. We had no issues. A huge plus (especially for the kids) is the shower outside has hot water. Thank you! That helped to rinse the kids off. :) And there is a hose we used to wash the dog too, so helpful! Looking forward to staying next summer. Highly recommend this place.

Quiet and relaxing, great for kids
We had a great stay. Kitchen had everything we needed, and the short walk to the beach we had to ourselves was great for us and little kids who loved the gentle bay waves. And they were enamored with the toys and coloring books in the house too!
