Mud Brick Cottage @ Hidden Valley Retreat Cottages
PROPERTY SETTING: Hidden Valley Retreat Cottages is conveniently close to Sydney yet you couldn’t feel more removed from the hustle and bustle of daily life once you arrive. Set on 40 acres of pristine land near Kurrajong, in the Hawkesbury area, we are tucked away in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. This is the perfect place for anyone looking to relax in the peace and tranquillity of the rainforest listening only to the birds and the gentle breeze in the trees. Take a walk to enjoy the natural beauty of the wild bushland that abounds, sip fine wine picked up on your day’s travel into the valley or sit by the potbelly stove relaxing; do as much or as little as you like.
THE COTTAGE: Mud Brick Cottage is a quaint two story cottage built as the original family home. It has three bedrooms, two outdoor entertaining spaces and a small kitchen/dining area. The large loft bedroom has a queen and two kid singles; and the bedrooms downstairs are one queen (attached to the outside and accessed via the veranda) and one twin (internal). Fresh linen and towels are provided and the beds have electric blankets. There's a basic kitchenette and private BBQ to cater for simple meals. The cottage boasts a pot belly stove for heating and stays relatively cool in summer due to its position in the trees and the mud bricks. A double spa bath set in a garden conservatory is perfect for unwinding.
THE PROPERTY: Mud Brick Cottage is one of five secluded, private, self-contained rustic cabins, each in their own separate area of forest on the property. They are available individually or as a group for up to 24 people. A tennis court is available for use up the hill at the main house.
Pets welcome by arrangement.
SIGHTS: Nearby attractions include the beautiful botanical gardens of Mt Tomah, quaint Kurrajong village, Richmond markets and the historic Windsor all within 10 to 30 mins drive and well worth a visit. Perfect for us as we were down from queensland to celebrate an 80th birthday
It was close to family that we were visiting and a very beautiful location. Fiona and Mike were really great and we would definitely come back and stay and enjoy the place more as it was so peaceful and relaxing.
Beautiful landscape, Mud Brick Cottage is lovely and we enjoyed every minute being there. Highly recommended.
As a family, we enjoyed the fire pit, hot spa and the beautiful surroundings. Hosts were brilliant.
We had a lovely long weekend away at mudbrick cottage. The kids had so much fun running around the property. The cottage had everything we needed and it was very refreshing being out of mobile range at the cottage to enjoy some peaceful family time.
Perfect location, tranquil and relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle and close to all local amenities. The cottage was very comfortable, clean and felt like home away from home. Pet friendly. The owners are very nice people and very accommodating. We have now found accommodation to stay in when travelling from Qld and will be visiting again soon.
We had a lovely stay. Gorgeous location, lovely spa and fire pit. We had a wonderful time.Important to know in advance that there is no reception or internet. This wasn't a problem for us, but good to know for preparation.
Our group of two families absolutely loved staying at MudBrick Cottage. The owners were so warm and welcoming, it is an excellent location, and we enjoyed being off-grid with no internet access! The kids had fun on the tennis court. A terrific winter escape.

The property was very authentic and quiet. Fiona and her husband were the best hosts. So approachable, nothing was a problem. So good. Highly recommended
We loved this rustic, hidden gem!! A super spot for a family getaway with lots of nature time, fresh air and peace. Fiona and Mike were super hosts, extremely helpful, kind and responsive! We loved the simplicity of the place. It was super cosy and a great spot for our family. Our big boys rode their bikes, whacked the tennis ball, toasted marshmallows and roasted chestnuts. We all went apple picking in Bilpin, had a wonder about the Tomah botanical gardens and enjoyed a hot spa! We loved sitting by the fire both inside and out and rock hopping around the creek. Loved it all. Will pack more long trousers and mozzie repellent next time though!
Just what we needed! Everything for a short stay in idyllic surrounds. Gave us space to just breathe and be. After the initial 'theres no internet' even the teenager made it through the 2 nights we were there. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Hosts are lovely
The accommodation is amazing. If your thinking about it, do it!! The driveway to the cottage is a beautiful winding gravel path through forest with little rocky caves hidden up higher and follows a peaceful creek. The cottage itself has all the essentials. Minus phone reception so you can really enjoy the place in peace. Close to Richmond if there is anything extra you need. We were luckily enough to get rain while we were there, it was delightful listening to it fall while in the spa or laying in bed. Fantastic Communication.
We all really enjoyed the break from the hustle of day to day life and relaxing in this beautiful treasure of a place. Spas, reading, picking apples at nearby Bilpin, gazing into the fire at night. Welcoming hosts. Feeling very rejuvenated and refreshed now.
The dirt road was hard to climb in a heavy 2WD car, it scraped the bottom and damaged the fendersCould use wifi,Just in case of emergency,Also would like if they left some torches and umbrellas. And if there is no wifi, TV should be working at least or should have a wide array of board games or entertainment.

We stayed in mud brick cottage in the school holidays with a friend and my parents. It was a welcoming, clean, and simple cottage with 3 bedrooms and multiple beds. The living space was comfortable and nice, the bathroom was rustic and hygienic, and all three bedrooms were warm and cosy. Upstairs was the biggest bedroom where me and my friend slept, and it was really big and we had room to play. The spa bath made everything better, it was so relaxing and gave the house a modern touch. Overall, I would give 5 stars and definitely recommend mud brick cottage.
This mud brick cottage is the cutest, and the entire property is an oasis!!!
Fiona and family are wonderful!!! Everything was ready for us, including a welcome breakfast basket.
We thoroughly enjoyed our escape from the world ❤️
Thank you Fiona. Magnolia cottage had everything we needed for a relaxed, family get away. Kids loved it and are already asking when we are going back. Hope to see you again soon.
We absolutely loved the property and surroundings: the rustic charms of the Mud Brick Cottage, the daily walks on the dirt road, the peacefulness of the valley, the fireplace, the spa bath...
Excellent place to unwind. Will be back for more 😁

Mud brick cottage.
A nice and quiet place to stay when in western sydney. The mud brick cottage would house a party of 4 with no issues. The only issues you may run into is the lack of reception out there and theres no TV or internet (most people travelling here probably won't care about that though). But all in all I'm quite happy with the value here.
