Rooms in hotel quite quirky. A pleasant stay and 3 out of 4 nice meals at the restaurant.
We stayed w nights in the miners cottage and it was absolutely superb for our needs. Had our kids visit and play cards one evening and the other night we just blobbed out. Nice and quiet, and well appointed. The cottage had everything we needed and the meal we had in the bar after 6 hours driving was damned good.
The service was fab and the staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. Will happily stay there again.
Historical motel with a good description but the location is not close to the restaurant and supermarket. Good to stay for a night for a drive break on road trip.
I mistakenly chose this place while looking for accommodation in Greymouth, and I’m very glad I did!
It’s a wonderful place — homely, warm, rustic and peaceful. I booked a room with shared facilities and was lucky enough to have the place to myself for the night. My room also had its own surprisingly spacious bathroom and walk-in wardrobe.
The staff were lovely and welcoming. I was initially a little anxious about the more isolated location, but the hospitality quickly put me at ease and I really enjoyed my stay.
There’s also a restaurant on site, and as an Expedia VIP member I received a $20 food and drink voucher. I had the carbonara and soup of the day for dinner, and both were delicious.
A completely unplanned stay that turned out to be one of the nicest homely-style accommodations I’ve stayed in. A very pleasant surprise!
Lovely old hotel with theme rooms. Bar and restaurant on site with a good menu. Breakfast available for extra charge. Small gloworm site behind hotel for curious tourists.

Room and adjacent living room were great and cool antique furnishings. Food at restaurant was delicious for dinner. Breakfast was okay. Staff extremely nice and accomodating. Loved the huge footed tub. Not crazy about the trucks going by our bedroom window on the main road. Might be good to reconfigure so bed on other side of wall and seating area on the street side.
Victorian Suite in the BNZ bank building was fantastic. Loved sleeping the 4-poster bed and soaking in the slipper bath. Relaxing having our own lounge area.
Enjoyed both evening meals we had across at the hotel.
Pleasant stay in a quirky suite decorated with Victorian fixtures and fittings. Spacious rooms with all mod cons. Good pub food although continental breakfast was over priced. Worth the stay for the nostalgic atmosphere.
