Great atmosphere and the rooms were made up nicely with each room having the theme of a certain animal from Noahs Ark. The staff was very helpful with tips on what to do around there.

Old and worn but nice and cosy on the other side

Old and worn but nice and cosy hostel. Beatiful old house with a small garden. Nice staff. Situated in the centre of the town. Close to (to walk to) the railway station (I traveled by train), restaurants, large grocery store, other shops, bike rental, car rental, nature and harbour walks. Greymouth is a small town but still the largest town on the other side (the least populated side) of New Zealand's South Island. Common kitchen and common room, as you expect in a hostel. Easy to meet new people. There were no lockers for luggage or valuables. But that is probably not necessary at this place. There was only a single power socket in the whole (dormitory) room. There was, however, a multiple socket extension lead so that there was a power socket for each guest in the room. But there was no power socket close to each bed, something which is important today with our dependence on smartphones. The only important negative thing for me with the hostel was the lack of a power socket at each bed.

What a fantastic place, the room was spotless, bright and cheerful. The kitchen was spotless and very well outfitted. The shower, bathroom and toilets were exceptionally clean. The reception was very knowledgeable and helpful. All and all a great experience, thank you.

One place you must stay!

Probably the quirkiest place I have ever stayed but in its unique style, it really does work. All the bedrooms are named after animals The owners are super friendly and can't do enough, even the hostel dog is friendly ha ha. Met some really nice people during my stay and would totally recommend it. Clean, quiet, comfy ...and quirky!

Winter break

Well-located near the railway station. Wood-burning stove keeps things warm and plenty of hot water for showers and washing-up. I spent a few days here between train services and explored by renting a bike and a car.

The property is like a villa from the last century, it has high ceilings and beautiful windows. Every bedroom is dedicated to an animal and has well made, funny graffities on some walls.

Lack of maintenance and overall upkeep of the place. We looked forward to the Spa pool as advertised however we were told it required maintenance. We read on the website that there would be a small selection of coffee, cereal and toasts however there was none during our stay and it had appeared to be removed from the website. Enquired about the winter deal (pay for 2 night and get a 3rd free) after the phone call the owner changed the deal online and didn’t honour it. Beds were also uncomfortable and extremely squeaky.

Service was poor from the start. I had to wait some time while she fussed over an American couple. When I finally got served a very poor attitude come across. Didn't mention wi fi to me nor towels/face cloth, I had to come down & ask. Sink taps at end of hall for monkey room-hot tap didn't work at all & cold tap so loose you could the whole tap through 90 degrees. Our dorm fairly full & I on top bunk. Some clown came in at midnight & turned his cell phone on & started fossicking amongst his gear. Woke me up & god knows how many others. Place was in poor state of repair. Look run down.

ich war sehr froh über das check in so früh, dass ich nicht warten musste. Das ganze Haus war sehr einladend und freundlich. Das Zimmer, Küche und Lounge waren gut eingerichtet. In der Küche war alles vollständig, um richtig zu kochen. Der Kontakt mit den Besitzern war herzlich und sehr hilfreich.

The concept and design in this backpacker are very special that it used animals as the theme in each room. All the staffs are very friendly and helpful. Love their shower room too which are slide shower instead of rainshower head.

Lovely people, gorgeous historical premises with good elevation and views from the front verandah. Very clean, well organised and welcoming. Owner’s pets will not tolerate any right wing captain America nonsense and will chase red baseball caps. Highly recommend.
