Hotel did not have my reservation! Please advise how this happened. Hotel gave me a room but did not have my reservation. Will not use travelocity again unless I receive an explanation.
The Alluvian is a nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast buffet is included and was good. We ate at the restaurant which was pretty good and went to the spa ( across the street) and the Viking cooking school (also across the street). Besides this hotel and amenities there is nothing much in the area.
Great character and southern charm tucked inside this swanky hotel in the Delta. Can't wait to go back and try the spa and Viking cooking school next time!

Alluvian- Viking Experience
This was an anniversary trip with the Viking Cooking School as the primary reason. The school was a great experience and we will certainly do this again.
At the hotel we had a nice large corner room with plenty of windows. It was very cold outside. We could never get inside room temperature comfortable. The large bathroom had marble floors. The marble floors were so cold we had to place towels on the floor where we walked. We were out of the room for the second day, but never had room clean-up service.
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant - Gardina's. The wait staff mis-ordered my oyster appetizer and my wife's salad. I ordered a NY strip steak, only for the waitress to return to say they were out of strip steaks. We ordered brussel sprouts as a side vegetable. We were expecting an upscale sprouts dish, but the sprouts were steamed beyond repair with additional butter.
This was a midweek stay but there were plenty of guests and the service was great. Excellent restaurant next door to the hotel so no moving the car. Nice walking street with cute shops. Greenwood has several good restaurants and the town is pleasant.
We loved the alluvian! The free continental breakfast was amazing, the beds were so comfortable, and the service was outstanding! Giardinas restaurant and the Viking cooking school next door were also excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Upscale and delightful boutique hotel in Greenwood, MS. A real "find" in contrast to the "run of the mill" offerings of the chains. Well-appointed with true amenities. Attentive, if lean, staff. Across the street from Viking Cooking School and located among antique stores and urban shops. Close to historical sites.
Pulled in about 6 pm on a foul weather Friday night. Great front desk and the room was great. Dinner in the cubicles circa 1936 in house restaraunt. Worth a whole seperate write up. Greta place.
Breakfast is not to be missed. Warm fireplace I but has balcony seating for the finer days.
We came down for a weekend to get away from work and a football crowd in Oxford. We had a wonderful time--reading, watching the football game on TV (we won!!!), hanging out at Turnrow Books, eating at the Delta cafe right down the street, walking by the river. The Alluvian is a treat and there is a fantastic antiques store nearby, where we also spent significant time talking to the owner whose name I cannot, unfortunately, remember. (The store has his last name: his father also owned the store.) The Alluvian also has many beautiful photographs; it's very attractively decorated and extremely comfortable, by and large. The Delta is a fascinating place--lots of history, white and African American. The drive from Oxford to Greenwood along Highway 7 is beautiful and passes right through some great Blues musicians' birthplaces.
