what a beautiful area, at the end of the gunflint trail. i was there before ice out so it was very quiet, beautiful surroundings and a very comfortable room. nice clean bathroom with good shower. this would be a perfect place to stay before and/or after a canoe trip into the BWCA. make sure you have everything you want because it is an hour drive into Grand Marais, that is part of the beauty of this place. i had great communication from the property owners, i will definitely staying there again.

Lovely remote lodge in beautiful area. The room is small, but well appointed. You will lose cell seevice on the gorgeous Gunflint Trail, so make sure you have saved your check in instructions beforehand. Note that many lodges on the trail have restaurants, but not this one, so bring food with you before you arrive. They are last on the trail except a campground, so once you’re here, you’ll need to have everything. I came thinking I might get to see the Milky Way since it’s so remote, but there is an adjacent parking lot for lake access with two large streetlights, so it’s not as dark as you might expect on the property itself. The beds are comfortable, shower works well, and staff is friendly! Walls between rooms are thin, so you will hear your neighbors, but they were respectful.

Wasn’t sure what to expect at the end of the trail but we’re pleasantly surprised with our stay. New and clean and compact best describe the unit but had a nice meal on the tables overlooking the lake. Nice indoor kitchen and sitting area too.
We love this location because it is low-key and simple, exactly what we were looking for as we head into various day trips in the Boundary Waters. Bekah, the manager, was friendly, available, and a sweetheart. Our only suggestion was for Sag Lodge to update the check-in instructions on VRBO; but the check-in instructions we got through email were accurate.

Clean up needed.
The two reasons a poor cleanliness rating was specific to multiple piles of dog poop noted on the cement/paved walkways and the unpleasant aroma that dog poop has both fresh and aged. It really was disgusting. We were even lucky to have one of the kids step right in it at night due to poor lighting.
The 2nd observation was nails and pieces of glass on the shore by the docks, again not kid friendly and risk for serious injury.
Other than these things, we enjoyed our stay.
A very neat 5 room cabin. All room access is from the outside. Super nice common area! Complete with kitchen, dinning area, and huge outdoor deck overlooking the lake. One caveat, if you are looking to go the the BWCA to "get away" from the sounds of civilization, this is the one lake where people CAN put a motorized boat on the lake and travel into the BWCA on a specified path. This might be good...or bad, depending on what you want to do.

Not for older people
Only stayed one night. Very small room and had to crawl into bed from the bottom. Towels but no wash cloths. It was an expensive night.
The lodge sits on the edge of Saganaga Lake, accessible to the Boundary Waters. The 2nd story deck overlooks the water. There is an entry point into the lake immediately adjacent to the property. This property has a dock you can swim off of, a canoe for guest use, a full kitchen/common area with TV, couches, large table, books, games, etc. This is a 'you bring and fix your own food' place, but there are restaurants on the Gunflint if you want to be served. Linens and towels are provided, as are soap, shampoo, and conditioner. In my room, there was a fan. There is a thermostat on the wall for the heater for cooler weather. Bekah, the property manager, is wonderful. Communication is key and she answered my million questions before I got there and was accessible throughout my entire stay. Because I stayed so long, we became great friends. Anything I needed or any information I asked, she did her best to provide for me. I also witnessed many interactions between Bekah and other guests, and she was always accommodating and pleasant.
Now, my goal was to hike the trails, which I did. I was very happy to come back to the lodge, shower off, fix something to eat and spend time looking at the stars, sitting at the fire pit or talking to other guests or Bekah before turning in for the night. There is wifi there as well. Overall, this vacation was wonderful and met my expectations and then some!
Can't blame the Lodge for very high water and bad weather. Met some very nice people on the trip. Special thank you for the help pulling the boat onto shore every night. You know who you are. Have stayed here twice, will stay again. The beauty of the Northwoods is what draws me here. Catching fish is just a bonus.
Overall the property is as advertised. Very quiet and staff gave great directions. The rooms are clean. Great place to enjoy the quiet outdoors and sit or swim in the lake.
We had an Amazing time while we stayed at Sag Lodge! Absolutely will be coming back and sharing our experience with others! Bekah and Sean were really wonderful as well as very knowledgeable in sharing information about the area.

Sag Lodge was so peaceful and the view was amazing. The management was available whenever you needed them. It was a perfect place to stay if you are traveling with a family pet. We will definitely stay there again.
Got a huge dose of nature with all the comforts of home! The room was clean and comfortable and so was the shared kitchen. Gorgeous views of Sag Lake and the beautiful land that surrounds it.....also very clean! Responsive, informative staff even though we never saw them.
This place is very secluded. If you are looking to get away from the everyday noise and distraction then this place is perfect for you. The property was clean and well maintained. Will definitely be booking again.
