"Koyasan was the highlight of our Japan experience. The place we got for overnight temple stay at Ekoin temple was beautiful. Dinner was large and amazing (I am not a vegetarian but the food was delicious). Our room was a junior suite with our own bath and garden. I would not have it any other way. I wish I stayed longer than one night. Remember that this is a stay at a temple. Although one gets very nice experience, I would urge any tourists to not treat this as some hotel. The people serving you are Buddhists monks or monks in training. As a Buddhist (from a different country), we would never have monks serving us food (other way around). I have seen people leave some not so kind comments and if that is something you are inclined to do, consider not doing temple stay and check yourself into an actual hotel."

"Great experience. Location is great. Quiet and warm atmosphere. Dinner was well prepared. You have to sit down on tatami for dinner, but low chairs available. After meals, we were invited to the meditation. Morning service at 6:30 was a great way to start the day. Very nice atmosphere and it is run well. I do highly recommend."

" I’m a mature traveler and this was my first time staying in a temple. The overall experience was unique and memorable. Sleeping on the floor and having no shower facilities in the morning were outside my comfort zone, but joining the monks for their early morning ceremony was something I genuinely enjoyed. A stay that was absolutely worth experiencing at least once."
