The property was beautiful, although tricky for grandma to get up the stairs. The property managers were very helpful and easy to communicate with. The house would be perfect for a large group with 4 king sized bedrooms. There wasn't a lot of "extra" amenities like shampoo/conditioner, hair dryer, or laundry soap for the washer, but we made it work! Overall good experience.
Loved the house!!! Perfect for our family with 3 teenagers! Great communication with the office staff at Heartland. We would definitely opt to stay here again. Very conveniently located.
Everything was absolutely great. The cabin was very cozy and relaxing. Be sure to lock your car doors the bears will get in. We had a bear to go though our car but nothing was damaged. The bear hug cabin is a great place to stay.
This home is everything you can imagine. The decor was absolutely stunning. We went down for a cozy Valentine’s weekend and it did not disappoint! The architecture was quite refreshing; a little modern mixed with country cozy and exquisite furnishings. We will be back this fall! Five stars.
Nice place generally. Liked the bear theme. Stearns and Foster matress in master appreciated. Would have been nice to have fitted sheets that actually fit the deepness of the bed. Generally, a lot of dated furnishings and appliances. Some very basic items missing that I believe are a must to include. Would I stay there again? Depends on corrections and price point.
THE GOOD:
- close to gatlinburg and pigeon forge -- very good in terms of proximity to each and very close to G-burg
- very spacious
- beds are super comfy
- plenty of plates, etc
- fireplace is awesome
THE NOT SO GOOD:
- there's not really a view -- just trees
- the driveway is super scare and dangerous
- it's on a turn of the road, so very difficult to turn into and dangerous due to the oncoming traffic from around the bend
- the "spa tub" is very old and it took 30 minutes to fill it up halfway...not enough hot water for a hot bath. Everything is dated in the bathroom and it needs a major upgrade
- tv is outdated
- very cold upstairs
- not enough forks ?? weird but true
- we arrived and someone left food outside on the ground for bears I guess; we had to clean it up
- we couldn't check in until literally 4 pm on the money. we were in town at 1 pm and I tried checking in a little early -- weren't allowed
all in all it was nice, but for the price, we would stay elswhere next time. It was very expensive and the views weren't great. It's down a very steep driveway with no hiking trails/access from the property which is something I desperately was looking forward to.
The house is spacious and clean. The four bedrooms and bathrooms are perfect for a big group like ours. The house is located in a quiet woody area with green and fresh air to welcome you. The decorations adds a notch high for coziness. The house has enough utensils and glasses , but if your group likes to cook a few meals, you need to take your own spice and maybe a few extra rolls of paper towels. We enjoyed our 4 day stay in the house.
A beautiful cabin conveniently located and comfortably furnished. There are a fair number of stairs to access it (just a heads up for the older crowd), but worth it (for the younger crowd). Well equipped and a pizza place even delivers there if you don't feel like cooking. Very cute decor and a great cabin the woods experience right down to the fireplace and hot tub.
This was a great family cabin. The bedrooms were excellent in size. The cabin was close to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We did have a few visits from a bear. The only improvement I could recommend would be a newer cooking range. We fixed breakfast at the cabin every morning and found that the cooking range oven was slow to heat up. The wall oven worked well- so we were able to use that, it just took a little longer to get everything baked.
Renting couldn’t have been easier through VRBO. Communication with the manager was easy. House was exactly as advertised and great for our group (4 adults and 4 children under 5). Location was perfect, far enough away to feel like you are alone in the mountains but really less than 15 minutes from anything in downtown Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge.
Would mention that at least for us with AT&T cellular phones cell service was minimal to non-existstent in and around the cabin. And there was no Wi-Fi (not that the listing claimed there was) which for us was not a problem, and even welcome, but if that is something you need to have while on vacation just a heads up. I couldn’t recommend Bear Hug enough for a family trying to get away.
Didn’t get door code til 4:10 said we were arriving at noon got an email saying we will try to accommodate that ok that’s fine but to wait til After check in time is ridiculous. When we arrived hot tub was overflowing they has left the hose running. Had centipedes everywhere, called for a big guy they got annoyed. Sent an email saying pick an attraction or all on the list tickets included with your stay it was only 1 ticket per abs we had 8 guests now I didn’t expect 8 but if we didn’t get one to each could we not get 8 to at least one? Oh abs bonus no WiFi they want you to have a natural experience
Wonderful cabin for adult friends. Full / usable kitchen. Impeccably clean. Good size hot tub. Super comfortable beds(mentioned by all). Bears even on back porch. Would have been nice to have WiFi access but we made do. Will definitely come back.

The property has been taken care of and has a lot of character. I was not informed that it was in the part of the park that had been burnt down so it was not the prettiest area. There was no wifi due to that. The stairs to the cabin was no joke. The driveway and roads around the cabin were very dangerous. I would not recommend in icy or snowy weather. I did like the location if it was, of course, in better shape. I would not rent that particular cabin again due to the surrounding area and the steps.
Bear hug was a beautiful cabin —clean, spacious and great location! It was a perfect getaway in the smoky mountains. The driveway was a surprising steep hill from the road which was quite dangerous—can’t imagine what it is like in wintry conditions. The refrigerator made a pound noise constantly. But besides that it was perfect! Enjoyed the view on the surround porch with cozy hot tub. Kitchen was so large —perfect to cook a Christmas dinner for family . Highly recommend!
