Welcome to Mountain Moonrise — Your May Family Retreat in the Smokies Mountain Moonrise is a spacious 3-level chalet thoughtfully designed for families and multi-generational groups. Practically at the doorstep of Ober Mountain and just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, May is one of the most magical months to visit the Smokies. The mountains are lush and green, the weather warm and inviting, and the area buzzes with some of its most beloved seasonal events. One guest captured it perfectly: "There were a ton of fireflies surrounding the house every night which was cool. The star gazing was also perfect from the top porch."
BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS The upper level features two private king suites, each with its own ensuite bathroom — ideal for parents or grandparents looking for a peaceful retreat. A charming reading nook between the suites overlooks the breathtaking mountain views — a cozy spot to slow down with a coffee and take it all in before the day begins. The lower-level bunk room with farmhouse-style bunks and its own foosball table is a hit with kids. All bathrooms are stocked with full-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hairdryers — no tiny hotel bottles. One bathroom also has a bathtub, great for young children.
MAIN LIVING SPACE The open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area is filled with natural mountain light and anchored by a cozy electric fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a peninsula with bar stools for casual dining, and a complete coffee bar with espresso, K-cup, french press, and drip options. As one guest put it, "The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, the fire pits, grill, jacuzzi and patio lights all worked — the house is immaculate."
RIGHT NEXT DOOR: OBER MOUNTAIN Just ~2 miles away, Ober Mountain is a year-round adventure park that earns a full day on its own. Ride the Tennessee Flyer mountain coaster, soar on the Cloud Catcher ziplines, encounter wildlife up close, take the Smoky Mountain bobsled, test the rock wall, and more. New this season, the Sky Village Express chairlift carries guests to the highest lift-served peak in the Smokies at 3,455 feet — with a brand new scenic deck and sweeping long-range views. Whatever the age or energy level, there's something for everyone.
ENTERTAINMENT & GAME ROOM The lower-level game room goes well beyond the highlights. Alongside the pool table and multicade arcade, guests have a dedicated movie area with comfortable seating, and a selection of board games that tends to come out after dinner. It's a guest favorite on rainy days and quiet evenings alike.
OUTDOOR LIVING The main level deck is the social heart of the outdoor space — beyond the dining table firepit, guests can settle into the egg chair and watch the game or a movie on the outdoor deck TV while the gas grill is going. It's the kind of setup that turns a barbecue into an event. Up on the upper deck, the gathering firepit sets the perfect scene for s'mores and stargazing as the mountains fade into the evening. Come May, fireflies begin lighting up the hillside as darkness falls — one of the most magical things about staying in the Smokies this time of year. The lower deck hot tub sits tucked among the trees, offering a private soak with panoramic views in every direction.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY AMENITIES Mountain Moonrise makes family travel genuinely easy. Beyond the pack 'n play, high chair, and baby bathtub, the home is stocked with kids' utensils, books, and toys for early readers — so families can travel light and focus on the fun. One parent shared: "They provide pack 'n play, toddler bathtub, kids' tableware, and games — the pictures show exactly what you see on the decks, unbelievable mountain views!"
EXTRAS THAT MATTER The home includes a dedicated remote work desk and chair on the main level for those working remotely, a 220v EV charger for eco-conscious travellers (Tesla owners please bring your own adapter), and parking for 2 vehicles on the private driveway, with additional overflow parking available at the end of the street.
LOCATION HIGHLIGHTS ★ ~2 miles to Ober Mountain — Tennessee Flyer coaster, Cloud Catcher ziplines, ice skating & the new Sky Village Express ★ ~3.5 miles to Downtown Gatlinburg — SpringFest in bloom, Saturday Farmer's Market begins in May ★ ~10 miles to Dollywood — Flower & Food Festival in full swing through June 7 ★ ~2.3 miles to Great Smoky Mountains National Park — synchronous firefly viewing at Elkmont May 20–27 (lottery via recreation.gov) ★ ~20 mins to Sevierville — Bloomin' BBQ & Bluegrass Festival, May 15–16 (free to attend!) ★ Close to Ole Smoky Distillery, Gatlinburg SkyPark, scenic drives & local dining
Whether you're watching fireflies dance across the mountainside at dusk, feasting through Dollywood's Flower & Food Festival, soaking in the hot tub under a clear spring sky, or gathering around the firepit as the Smokies glow green all around you — Mountain Moonrise is the perfect place to slow down, reconnect, and make lasting memories. As one repeat guest put it: "This is our third time here and we can't recommend it more highly."

Loved this charming cabin in the woods! So cozy, and loved that it was decorated for Christmas. Joyce was an amazing host, checking in to be sure we were good. Would definitely book again.
My family and I enjoyed this stay. Nice clean house with lots of options to entertain yourself. The fire pit on the back porch was a nice to have for those cold nights. Would stay here again.
The house was absolutely gorgeous and the views were breathtaking! The host was very responsive and super nice. We are looking forward to booking again at this location next year!
The description on Vrbo was already great, but it was beyond and above my expectation. The checking-in process was super easy, and basically everything including the views from patios, game room, distance to the downtown, etc., was perfect!
What a wonderful vacation. The house was beautiful, Views were spectacular, and the Game room was perfect for both kids & adults. The location was amazing. Just 5 min away from downtown Garlinburg. We could not of asked for more & will definitely be staying here again when we return.
My extended family of 6 enjoyed a wonderful week here.
Plenty of space for everyone.
We appreciated the large dining table on the covered second floor deck, and the fire feature in the middle of the table. It was a great space to dine and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains.
The location was great, only a 10 minutes drive to Gatlinburg and the National Park.
We would definitely stay here again.
This house is a great vacation option and had everything you could need for a trip to the mountains. The house was extremely clean and the amenities like fire pit and game room were great additions. The host was super communicative and sent lots of suggestions in the days leading up to our trip which helped with planning a lot. I would highly recommend this spot.
Our party of four adults had a great and easy two day trip! The location was a short drive from downtown Gatlinburg which made for easy days and relaxing evenings when we returned. The home is well maintained and clean overall. We enjoyed the fire pit balcony most of trip and appreciated the downstairs game room. Thanks for a lovely weekend!
Overall the property is a nice place to vacation. The property was closer to others, more so than I anticipated. Some mornings were noisy, but understandably with the proximity of other homes. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed our coffee in the mornings on the deck. The property was clean for the most part, but it did need a deep clean especially in harder to reach places.
The pictures accurately describe how amazing this property is and the incredible view. You are just minutes from the park, downtown Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge. It is up a steep and winding hill, so if you get car sick easily, maybe not the place for you. The 3rd floor balcony was the best spot for watching the sunrise and sunset and a perfect spot at night with the firepit going to hang out. The house has everything you could need. We loved that it was already decorated for Christmas. You will not be disappointed if you book this property for your getaway.
The chalet was absolutely perfect. Stunning views and gorgeous decor with many amenities. We had bears visit us both nights so make sure you lock your vehicle. Parking is tight but wasn’t a problem for us with just one vehicle. My only suggestion for improvement was to add a solar powered light above the front door to make it easier to see to enter the code at night. Overall great home.
The house and views are beautiful. Very clean. Roads were easy. You are 5 minutes from town. She had a lot of stuff in the house that we had in our house so that was nice. Hot tub was great. Only thing I have to say a little negative is the beds, they are very firm but I am spoiled to my mattress. We were the only ones on our street. Overall experience was amazing.
Saturday to Wednesday stay and all but the last day we say bears at the cabin. No harm to the cars as long as you lock the doors and keep the food in the house. Now the view, first two days were sunny and lit up all the mountains right off any of the three decks. The last day was raining all day, but the clouds were below the cabin allowing peeks at the mountains as they came in and out of the clouds. Ohh, and the house was very nice if you decide to go in and not stay on the porch.
This house was just what we were looking for! The inside was beautiful and we really enjoyed the pool table and hot tub, but the BEST part was the view from each of the three balconies!!! Wow!! Waking up to the mountain view each morning was amazing and so peaceful. We also really enjoyed all of the daily needs/utensils being provided so we (aka, the hubby) could cook dinner and enjoy it outside. Thank you!! :)
This is an outstanding property in a beautiful neighborhood and at a great location! The view is absolutely breathtaking. The house is cozy and clean, with a variety of family friendly amenities. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed the game room. This was our first time staying here and only for two days busy with activities, mainly outside the property, so we did not get to enjoy the hot tub. We are definitely looking forward to return again! Our host, Joyce, provided very responsive communication and gave us a very thoughtful option for a later checkout due to a snowstorm on a previous day. However, we were impressed how quickly the city authorities took care of the roads even in frigid weather. Definitely another reason to love this location.
To say a lot of thought went into the planning of this house would be an understatement. The house itself is well decorated and really gives you that Smokey Mountain feel. There was plenty of space for each of us to have privacy and also enough space to come together. The views are stunning especially at sunrise and sunset. The kitchen and coffee station had everything we could think of. We spent some time in Gatlinburg. Pigeon Forge and Sevierville and this house is in a great location to access all three places.
Joyce also provided excellent customer service. We left wondering where else Joyce has properties we loved it so much!
Don’t forget to take a dip in the hot tub before you leave. It was so relaxing! (Even in December)
The properrty is BEAUTIFUL! We did have a few issues, as in the washer smelled of absolute mold and made our clothes stink horribly after being washed, not enough towels. There were plenty of bears visiting the area and we wanted to see them, but the windows were so dirty it was hard to see out of them. But othwerwise it was a nice stay, clean fresh water, nice warm hot tub (had it turned down due to children and being pregnant) plenty of entertainment for our 5 and 10 year olds. Our bed was pretty comfortable for being firm, the other was spring-y and felt worn out. It kind of sucked that the foosball table was in a bedroom, and there wasnt enough room to play pool (we hit the walls several times, but a nice concept)
Our family tries to come to the Smoky Mountains every year and this is by far the best cabin we’ve stayed in. The photos do not do the view justice. Watching the sunrise on the mountains was breathtaking and seeing the colors change as the light of the sun disappeared was just beautiful.
The home had everything we needed, the beds were all very comfortable and the bathrooms were just beautiful. There were so many cozy spaces throughout the home. The kids enjoyed their space downstairs with the arcade games and pool table and the adults enjoyed the fire pit on the top balcony in the evenings. We even got to see a bear in the yard scratching itself on a tree which was so cool!
The location of the home was perfect for us. It was close enough to everything yet you didn’t feel like you were a part of the hustle and bustle of the city.
Joyce was wonderful at communicating with us and checking in to make sure everything was going well or to see if we needed anything. We will definitely be back again!
This house is truly stunning and has everything you need for a stay in the mountains. Being off the bypass is super convenient to both sides of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The views from the house are amazing and the area is super quiet. Perfect for couples or a small family. This was our second stay and we will be rebooking again soon.
The views were excellent from the balconies, and the house was exactly as described. The rooms were comfortable. In addition, we were able to see a family of bears wondering through the back yard!
We really enjoyed our stay! Evening dinners on the deck was one of the highlights of our trip. We spent a lot of time in the outside spaces and using the game room. Great cabin!
