Beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Very clean and comfortable home. Nature all around with many hikes and swimming holes close by and a very attentive host. :) Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.
What a beautiful property. The home is thoughtfully decorated in such a way that it tells a story of exploration and natural beauty. The views of the river are beautiful and the access to it is such a bonus. This was the perfect place for my Family to stay and unwind.
After hiking all day amongst the redwoods of NorCal we would return to the home to rest and relax to get ready for the next days hike. Sitting out on the back deck right by the river was especially nice. We had a great time.
Perfect centralized location for group of family and friends to explore the Redwoods and the northern CA coastline. Host was accessible and personal and the property was private with wonderful outdoor deck space and beautiful river views. Clean and comfortable with all the amenities. Highly recommended!
The house and property were very nice and relaxing. Enjoyed the notes around the house about the history of items within the house. Neighborhood quiet and friendly.
This was a most enjoyable place to stay. The home was very inviting, comfortable and clean. It has a large covered patio and a separate covered area with a swing. All overlooking the Smith River. It is very close to the Redwoods and all they have to offer. Not far from Crescent City and the coast. Everything is there for a most enjoyable stay.
We stayed in this home with our extended family (ages 17- 82). This is a well loved home in a gorgeous location. There are many places to sit outside and enjoy the river view (or walk down and sit right next to it. Full kitchen, good sized living room. Whoever gets the master bedroom is in for a treat with a big room with an amazing view of the river. The two bedrooms on the first floor are much smaller. The redwoods are just 15 minutes away.
Back to nature with all the comforts of home. Stunning property delightful home. I would move here in a heart beat and be happy for the rest of my life. Perfect retreat. I am 75, i wanted to spend some time in the deep forest but have some limiting mobility factors. This property had the right mix of tall trees, water, and shektered places to sit and enjoy nature with only a short walk. Beautiful home, many large windows so even when I was inside i could enjoy the outside . Absolutly heaven on earth!
This is a beautiful clean cozy house that worked well for our vacation. Quiet neighborhood a minute from hwy 199 and a quality corner store. We loved the fireplace, the warm central furnace and the cozy furniture. The view of the river is excellent. The kitchen is well stocked. The upstairs bedroom and bath are quiet and also have a great view of the river. There is lots of space for a big family. The backyard decks are awesome and there is river access! The home is decorated throughout with art. Very interesting pieces! It was a challenge to keep the glass decorations safe from our 3 year old boy and the 1 year old who visited us. We made it work, though. Great house, and I would be happy to rent again
Great place to visit the redwoods from. We truly loved the house and property. Everything worked great and there was so much room for our family and dogs.
The home is very comfortable & well stocked with everything you need. Outside the home was the real star though with flowers blooming & expansive space with multiple decks and comfy chairs overlooking the Smith river. My family loved our stay at Elve Huset.
The house was great, and beautiful setting. We all agreed that it was much better than the listing showed. Great kitchen and living room; multiple decks outside; running stream behind the house, accessible for a cool dip. Would definitely stay there again.
This was a delightful 4 nights on a pleasant river in a quiet neighborhood in the redwoods. There were 3 of us, plus one service dog. Plenty of room! The decor is quite interesting - part museum, part art gallery. Furniture very comfortable. We were in the river to cool off every evening. We would love to return!
I grew up in Gasquet. This is our third year visiting our old stomping grounds. We love the house, the grounds, and the view of the Smith River. We visited friends and just enjoyed being in nature. Loved our visit!
This was our second visit to this house. We loved it as much as the first time. We need to come back in the summer so we can enjoy the river more, but it’s so cozy for a winter stay. We love it.
My family enjoyed our stay at Elve Huset beyond expectations. The river was right out the back door, and a great place for peace and quiet and for fun in the water. The house was very clean and interesting (so much art, flowers, birds, nd history!) and had everything we could hope for to prepare meals and enjoy them together, as well as get rest after days adventuring in the river and at nearby attractions. Crescent City tidepools, Brookings beaches, Smith River swimming holes, and Jedediah Smith redwoods are all nearby. We loved our stay! A memorable experience!
The host was welcoming and the property was lovely and spacious and allowed our family to spread out. The kitchen was well stocked pairing meals. But the real magic of this property comes from: 1) the lovely master bedroom with skylights to see the stars and a wall of windows to view the river and 2) the numerous decks that overlooked the river. I was so happy sitting on these decks, watching numerous hummingbirds visit their feeders and laying out peanuts for the jays. We had to cut our trip short for a pet emergency back home and we were very sad to leave.. the whole way home I was imagining myself back on those decks…. It really is a special place with great location to visit the redwoods. Gasquet is located outside the coastal fog zone, so even when it is cloudy in the redwoods, it was sunny at the cabin.

Perfect escape!
Andrew was such a pleasure to work with (was kind enough to text me photos of the directions when we left them at home!) and the property couldn't be nicer. You feel like you've stumbled into one family's slice of paradise. The river is ridiculously swimmable (perfectly transparent and serene), and the spot is a perfect driving distance to Jedediah Smith State Park and gorgeous views of the redwoods! Was such a relief to have a cozy spot for our dog to rest in the shade when we couldn't take her into the forest with us. All the amenities of home. Thanks, Andrew!!
Our family of 4 (kids are 7 and 9) had the most fantastic stay at Elve Huset! The property is incredible. Surrounded by trees, wildlife, and a quick, rocky walk down to the Smith River (cleanest in the country, arguably the world!). When we weren't out exploring, we lived in the backyard. I loved reading with my coffee in the early morning hours in the swing or on the deck, complete with sounds of the river rushing by and jays pestering me for peanuts. We spent many evenings sitting on the rocks by the river while the kids waded in with water shoes, searching for river critters. The house is spacious, clean, and well-equipped for preparing meals. We had plenty of towels, and the washer/dryer access was key with all the hiking and swimming we did over the course of the week. The street is very quiet; we rarely saw other folks. As for nearby attractions, there is great hiking, you can kayak on the Smith (we loved Smith River Kayaks), wander over to the ocean/beach, as well as relax or swim at some of the river's beaches ("Myrtle Beach" down the road was a hit on warmer days). The host is also super friendly and communicative; he was very quick to respond when I had an issue with the washer (entirely user error, for the record!).Overall, I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was here. I'm including pictures for others' reference. Thank you for a fabulous week!
