Our unique and beautiful home is nestled in the mountains above the Historic Benbow Inn, just 15 minutes away from the famous Avenue of the Giants. Our circular dome-shaped house, lovingly nicknamed The Hobbit House, is made with compacted straw bales and earth. It's not only eco-friendly but also has deep windows, niches, and shelves that give the walls a magical and artistic feel.
Our goal is to provide a memorable vacation experience that focuses on outdoor living. Imagine enjoying the fire pit under a covered gazebo, relaxing in the hot tub, or bouncing on the 14' trampoline while taking in the breathtaking views of the King Range.
Step inside the main house, and you'll find a spacious interior with high vaulted ceilings and a cozy living area with a fireplace and surround sound system. The kitchen is surrounded by an impressive island bar top that can seat 12 people, making it perfect for family vacation gatherings.
The two luxury bathrooms on the main level have walk-in showers, and the bedrooms have comfortable king beds and futons with lovely views of the oak forest and emerald-green mountains in the distance. For younger travelers, the loft area adjacent to the fireplace has a queen bed, four twin beds, and a large crash pillow.
If you're looking for more privacy, we also have a Cottage and a Tree House Casita. The Cottage is approximately 100 ft from the main house and has incredible views of the valley below. The Tree House Casita cantilevers over the hill and is surrounded by trees, making it feel like a real treehouse.
The outdoor living area is the real star of the show, with a gas firepit that puts out 250k BTUs and custom-made fire logs that warm the entire area. The massive concrete table surrounding it is perfect for dining or playing card games, while the outdoor TV lets you enjoy movie nights under the stars. The Sonos outdoor sound system sets the mood for any occasion.
The hot tub is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate, with stunning views of King Range and a gazebo enclosure with curtains for privacy. And let's not forget about the 14' trampoline, which provides hours of entertainment and a great workout without pounding the pavement.
Imagine a sun-soaked afternoon by the river, with your furry companions frolicking in the water and your kids building sandcastles galore. Now picture the joy of returning to our outdoor shower – a watery wonderland where muddy paws and sandy toes meet their match. Let your dogs revel in the refreshing cascade of water as they shake off the remnants of their adventures, all while your little ones giggle and splash their way to cleanliness.
At The Hobbit House, we strive to provide our guests with a unique and unforgettable vacation experience surrounded by nature's grandeur. Book now and start your adventure today!

Our group thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Hobbit House! Great location, spectacular views, responsive hosts, and a great overall getaway! Great amenities from the hot tub, ample entertaining spaces and the beauty. Thank you for the recharge.
The pictures don't do justice. The visit to the Hobbit house was amazing. The drivie way to get in is a little oasis is tricky but manageable. Just don't do it with a corvette.lol. Commutation with the host was great and never felt like they didn't want to help or provide a great stay!
This property is definitely at the top of the list of favorite places we’ve stayed. All of the details inside from the dishware, to the bath towels and the hand soaps create a really welcoming vibe. The beds and linens are THE MOST comfortable ever! Having a couple additional structures was a really cool thing for the kids and they loved having their own places. The property itself is in a beautiful location with amazing views, deer that travel through, and you can catch the sunrise from the tree swing in front. Easy travel into Richardson Grove area to the south or beautiful hikes in Avenue of the Giants to the north. If you have the chance to stay, it’s definitely worth it
This was a beautiful property, with lots of space and made up to be very cozy. The loft area was comfortable, and the outdoor fire pit worked incredibly. There were three grills outside to choose from, and we loved how easy everything was to use. Everything was very clean, we had a problem with the drain in one of the bathrooms smelling, but they were very quick to help us and always responded very right away.
There were 8 adults in our group and everyone had plenty of space to relax and sleep. The hot tub was wonderful and the views were truly breathtaking. We very seriously talked about renting the place again, before we had even left.
Well appointment and spacious, beautiful views with all types of amenities
Spacious home with all the desirable vacation amenities. The house was large enough for a gathering of at least 10 people if not more. There are only two bathrooms despite having 5 bedrooms, so keep that in mind. The property seemed to be designed with a “man cave” focus, minus a pool table; large TVs in every room with a grand outdoor kitchen. We could not wait until sunrise to see the beautiful views on top of the mountain. I would caution that a good vehicle is needed to get up to the house due to the steep hill and somewhat treacherous drive up to the house, but the location is worth it. Such a cool.property.
Our stay at "The Hobbit House" was a very lovely one. We had everything we needed and the host was communicative and helpful. We would certainly stay here again.
Beautiful views and house worked great for group- loved the extra details like string lights and flat stone grill. Only downside was the casitas not having restrooms.
We were up in Southern Humboldt for a wedding and the Hobbit House provided a great place for our family to stay. Really enjoyed the uniqueness of the home and the proximity to Hwy 101.
This place was amazing! We stayed 2 nights here for my almost 50th birthday with 3 families. The house and extra rooms on the property were cute and comfortable, the kitchen was amazing and set up for everything you need. The bathrooms and showers were awesome, and the long dining table was a must have with all us together. Highlights here are the outdoor fire pit and chairs, the hot tub with a view, and the hammock was a blast for those who could stay on! The whole place was well decorated, comfortable, and cozy, not to mention just visually stunning with all the work and thought that went into it. 10/10 would recommend and stay again!!
An absolutely lovely property with very nice hosts. Our group of ten took turns cooking with the impressive kitchen, and after having tried almost every appliance we can confidently say they all worked excellently and are clearly well maintained. The road up to the house can be a little tricky, and I would recommend vehicles that can manage steep inclines and have a bit of clearance.I would have appreciated a more detailed inventory of available cookware and dishes, as we ended up bringing redundant pans and bowls which went unused. The hosts themselves were excellent, extremely responsive to a few minor concerns and they proactively gave us a list of local activities to supplement our plans. The few we did incorporate into our schedule ended up being lots of fun and overall it was a very positive experience. As for the rest of the house, it is just as lovely as the photos imply. What we felt was undersold was how lovely the views turned out to be.
We had a wonderful experience at the Hobbit House! We enjoyed the beautiful views from the multiple sitting areas around the property as well as hanging out in the hot tub! The fire pit table was a great place to dine, make s"mores and have a cold drink in the evenings. The interior of the home is newly remodeled and updated, There was plenty of space for the 8 of us to spread out and enjoy ourselves. Being located on a mountainside. the Hobbit House is a truly unique experience! The ride up to the house was always an adventure!!
Katie, our property manager, was very responsive to our needs and questions. We had some uninvited guests in the cabin but Katie was on it quickly. We did note the lack of fire alarms in the home so would suggest maybe adding those. We never felt unsafe in the home but thought this could potentially be a problem.
We would highly recommend this property!
