Great location steps from the palace. Room was clean and comfortable but old. Breakfast was excellent and we had dinner in the bistro as we arrived late and that was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Very nice position next to Fredensborg castle, beautiful surrondings
Lovely breakfasts, excellent dinner and general location, parking, and surroundings.
Would have benefitted from tea/coffee in the room.
Overall aesthetics not in keeping with Danish standards of design,
but overall experience very comfortable.
Petite room with petite shower. Suffers from same problem as many Danish hotels - if you want black-out curtains drawn against the late sunset/early sunrise, you cook in the room with inadequate airflow. Good breakfast. Nice location.
Parking was easy
The check in was efficient
Staff is excellent
Breakfast was excellent

Overall, the Kro was a decent hotel with good food and clean if worn amenities. However, a couple of qualities deserve review. First, we had a ‘situation’ one night in which several drunk revelers from a conference in the hotel took up a position outside the front door, directly below our room, to smoke and drink. Their loud, intoxicated conversations and laughter kept us awake. I told a server (the reception was closed) who asked them to move back inside, and they did. Until 11:30pm. Then several more drinker/smokers appeared, awakening both my wife and I. I tried to call the Reception but was told by a recording they were closed until the next morning. So I went downstairs looking for a staffer, and found… no one! Not a single hotel employee was visible. I went outside myself and asked the drunks if they could keep their voices down, and they said they would. Twenty minutes later, they finally stopped their loud chatter. We travel a lot but I’ve never stayed in a hotel with NO night employees accessible by the guests. And NO information how to reach someone in an emergency. Also, on another topic, the shower was about the size of a phone booth and water spayed all over the (tiny) bathroom. All together, some good points and some VERY worrisome ones. 2.5 stars would be about right.

Location location
Great location next to the castle so convenient for a sightseeing, free parking, good breakfast, terrace with the view. But, the room, deluxe, was very basic with no accessories at all, no fridge, no coffeemaker, un-matching furniture, old squeaky floor, not nice looking as on the photos. At least was not expensive. The diner at the restaurant was very good but very expensive. However, I would stay again due to the good price.
My companion and I enjoyed the peaceful area and closeness to the castle.
Hardly any cars, no noisy people. Just birds and us.
The room in the annex was spacious, clean, nothing fancy but nice.
Luckilly we had a room on the shade side as it was around 30 C outside and very warm in the room, no AC. We managed to borrow their last fan that was on all night with the windows open.
We had wanted to eat in their restaurant but table needs to be booked ahead of time. It's rather popular and often fully booked as we noticed on our trip. We could have waited 20 minutes and then maybe get a table but we decided to leave and find a different place to eat. Breakfast buffet was tasteful. Not a huge variety of foods but more than sufficient. The greek youghurt was delicious, the bacon crispy - the only minus was the scrambled eggs which were lukewarm one minute after being put out.
We loved having our breakfast outdoors with the queen's castle as a view.
We recommend this hotel to couples who enjoy the calm of the area, free parking and wifi. There's a beautiful lake about 1 km away and a golf club.
The town itself seemed tired, not much open, only a few places to dine and not many people out in the streets in mid July in the evening. However it's rather close to bigger cities where you find more night life, bars and restaurants but note: most places close around 21:00-22:00.

Large but empty tired rooms, with no room amenities you might expect. Definitely not hygge. No international tv channels. Other than the expensive hotel restaurant, local walkable options very limited. More bed & breakfast vibe than hotel. Breakfast decent if entirely repetitive (Awful coffee).
The hotel had wonderful old-world charm, the staff was great! The room could have been better. I understand a lot of Europeans don't use AC but at least have a fan in the room, or at least screens on the windows so you can leave them open at night. All hotels should have blackout shades in the 21st century, this was a missed opportunity.
Hele mooie locatie, prima schone kamer, vriendelijk personeel. Goed , uitgebreid ontbijt .
