"located at the heart of Shangani, a walking distance from the sea front, Forodhani and Darajani.
Small quaint property with a home feel, my kind of thing!"
"Great area, this is literally the building where Freddie Mercury lived, apartment with unique old zanzibari character, great location - near to beach, stone town and night market, great breakfast. Loved it."
"This place was absolutely beautiful and very historic. The cherry on top was the AMAZING service. We only spent one night here but wish we were able to stay more. Very close to the water and lots of shopping around. "
"One of the most charming places we've ever stayed at. Antique, yet very clean and safe. Food was delicious, best we had on Zanzibar. Staff wonderful. Highest recommendation. "
"Beautiful boutique hotel in Stone Town! Very friendly and attentive staff, lovely breakfasts, charming and quiet garden and outdoor dining area, spacious rooms. A fantastic experience overall and would def recommend!"

"The beginning was a little bumpy yet after I addressed my concerns, the management in all departments including frontdesk and F&B went out of there way to make this visit for my mother and me even more memorable than expected.
I have visit over 200 hotels world-wide in the last three years, and witnessed a combined effort to make things more than right for us.
Since I was working as an F&B Manager on a few cruise ships with years of training in Europe and experience in 5 Star leading Hotel worldwide, I was truly impressed.
Next to a dinner invitation we were honored with a massive room upgrade with no questions asked. The staff was always extremely friendly and forcoming.
I can definitely recommend this magnificent looking Hotel.

"This is a lovely hotel in a historic building. It’s walking distance to all the sights of Stonetown. Our room was clean and comfortable. The balcony looked out to the Indian Ocean. Staff were very helpful and friendly, particularly the receptionist who helped us with booking our transfer to the airport at the end of our stay. "
"The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We always looked forward to the meals because the food was delicious and great conversation with the staff. They made us feel at home, I wished we had stayed longer! It was my fiance’s birthday and they made it as special as possible, they made him his favourite dish and had a birthday song performance that left him beaming from ear to ear. It was truly a memorable stay at Zanzi. A beautiful hideaway from the world, the villa was spectacular and private. We look forward to coming back again."
"Maru Maru Hotel staff were very kind and willing to help. The location of this hotel is beyond convenient; a great location if you decide the stone town tour and prison island tour.
I absolutely love that you can turn on heat for your water. I only have positive things to say about my stay here. The restaurant on the rooftop was also amazing; a great selection of food and cocktails. The venue itself was gorgeous- it has a very safe and reassuring feeling."
"A arrived 9h30 and didn’t have to wait till 15 o’clock to go to my room. They not only gave the room earlier but gave an upgrade. Very friendly staff "
"The staff 100% make this place, so friendly, so helpful and generally infectious. We cant thank everyone enough for making our honeymoon so special and taking care of us throughout our stay "
"Booked the place for a honeymoon, spent quite a considerable amount of money. The lagoon room we booked was absolutely amazing, loved this experience very much, scenery was immaculate.
Was let down by the overall quality of everything else unfortunately. Just as a comparison to other all inclusive’s in Zanzibar which offered much more for a fraction of the price. Overall quality of the product to its value was poor all things considered. Would unlikely stay again.
Some nice touches for sure like being greeted at the port. Staff are friendly and kind and try to accommodate but service feels like it’s new and a work in progress rather than a finished article. Menu for food isn’t very deep, quality was good on the whole but variety and quantity of the food and drinks was lacking. Simple requests like water bottles on our exit or fresh juices at breakfast not available some days, pastries running out. Some days the menu was restrictive and one day felt like we were given yesterday’s left overs.
Gym, sport activities, bikes are included which was nice. Atmosphere and entertainment at meal times were a nice touch. Attempts were made to accommodate us and make the experience nice was appreciated such as the honeymoon welcome.
Overall it’s feels marketed and priced as super luxury but on ground doesn’t meet those same standards, somehow feels as though you have to pay even more to get things that would otherwise be included in other places despite the higher cost. "
