The Property:
The home was built by Union Colonel Sion Bass, who commanded the Indiana 30th in the Civil War. The home is tastefully decorated with a Civil War theme, with pictures of Sion and his men. This is in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, with a Starbucks in our backyard, numerous dining options in the vicinity, and activities in all directions.

Guest access:
Enjoy the common sitting/main gathering room on the main floor. We provide snacks, and a large refrigerator on the main floor for our guests to use. Free parking is provided on site right behind the building. Garbage cans are located behind 517 West Washington next door for you to put your trash in as needed.

Guest interaction:
Our family lives just blocks away, and loves all downtown has to offer. We stop in once a day to check the snacks and beverages. I am always available via the App messaging platform, and can be on property in minutes.

Neighborhood overview:
West Central downtown is a magical space where people with souls reside. Sure, you can grab a tan cookie-cutter spot out in the burbs and care about the lawn, but why would you? This is where history, art, and friends meet. The West Central Neighborhood encompasses all of downtown west of Calhoun Street, the heart of West Central is its urban residential area, the development of which began as early as the 1830s. Because of the historic and architectural significance of this area, the West Central Neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated as a Local Historic District as early as 1985.
The West Central Neighborhood was named the “Best Old House Neighborhood” in Indiana in 2010 by “This Old House Magazine.” The north side of the Neighborhood, along Berry and Wayne streets and Washington Boulevard, was where many of the City’s most prominent families built large, stylish homes. On the south side, situated between West Jefferson Boulevard and the former Pennsylvania Railroad tracks, exists a collection of modest, small-scale cottages arranged along narrow, tree-lined, brick streets. Many workers for the businesses and various industries stretching along the south side of the tracks resided in this area. The area opens into downtown, with restaurants, shops, and countless ways to get lost in the city. The Historic Sion Bass House straddles the edge of the neighborhood and downtown. You can be out the door and on an adventure in minutes.

Getting around:
Parking is steps away just in back of the building. We are on every major bus route in the city, and simply strolling distance to all downtown has to offer.

Other things to note:
In the summer, there is a large festival every single weekend. Our library is magnificent, and boasts the best genealogy department East of the Mississippi River (second in the nation, behind only Salt Lake City). The Barr Street Farmers Market every Saturday morning in the summer is a must see. You can be in the middle of everything in minutes.

Perfect little vacation
My husband and I wanted a night away from home. This was perfect. Booking, check-in, everything was super simple. The room was clean, cute, cozy, and I just loved it.

Pictures Misleading & Loud Location
The place was pretty nice but the pictures are VERY misleading and do not represent what you will be getting. What you actually get is a bedroom with an attached bathroom, which has no door. There are two other units upstairs (walls are thin as paper and doors slam loudly and echo) and there is a common area downstairs. *Pic 1 is not the same room, the only thing similar is the bed is the same style. The furnishings are not that new looking either. *Pic 2 is correct, but taken at a deceiving angle. Look closely and you will notice there is no door *Pic 3 does not exist in this rental. The other thing is it is on a VERY busy road and it sounds like people drag racing all night long. One last item, mentioned only for others, is the brick walkway leading to the front door is very uneven and would be dangerous for the elderly or someone with any physical conditions. It wasn't an awful stay, but was not at all as expected or as represented by the images. We won't be booking this place in the future.

Great place to spend the night in downtown Ft Wayne
Very cool historic house. The Sion Bass Suite had everything you need for an overnight stay or longer, just as advertised. Awesome antique furniture, especially the canopy bed. Old, old places with modern updates are always the best way to go !! Communication with host Mike was easy as was the check-in and check-out process. Very close to downtown venues and safe neighborhoods for walking. Lots of great restaurants, breweries, parks, and walking trails. Ft Wayne is a great place to visit so we plan to go back and will stay at the house again if we can. Go check it out

Cute room. Location is amazing.
I would stay there again, and I would recommend to friends. Room was clean. Bed was super comfortable! There is a table area downstairs where you can play a card game or do a puzzle. The outside could use a bit of TLC, but we were there in early spring, so they probably didn't get a chance to get to it, yet.

Fort Wayne for Labor Day
Had a nice time for the Labor Day holiday. Communication was great and check in was easy. Others noted the location was noisy but we didn’t notice that. Loved the historical property and comfortable bed. Will return!

Room was quaint. Would maybe provide a bath bomb but the tub was lovely. I live in town but would definitely stay again. Only criticism would be the runners trip you up
