Enjoyed the stay
We had an unexpected trip to Fort Scott, Ks and when I booked this home there was a slight miscommunication but thankfully the Host, Sandy and Vrbro worked together to make sure we got in on are day of schedule. Sandy was beyond helpful and did her best to accommodate the guest. The house is very welcoming as soon as you walk through the front door. From what I looked up the house was built in 1910. If you like the older homes, you definitely will enjoy and appreciate this house. It not only has the old time feel /look to it but with the accommodations of new amenities. It was clean and with a flower smell!! I gave it four stars for three reasons: 1. We are not made perfect!! 2. The first slight check in but well taken care of. 3. We had our dog with us and neighbors next door had plenty of cats!! For the most part of our stay it was relaxing and had what was needed for a comfortable stay without packing a lot of unnecessary things. Fort Scott, Ks has plenty to do if you like to explore historical things. The house sits close enough to town that you could walk to it if your a walker!! If we ever make it back to Fort Scott, Ks again, I know where we would be staying!! Definitely will book again!!

Nice place for a weekend hunting trip
Overall a great little place, plenty of room to spread out. The kitchen is awesome. The living room carpet needs to be cleaned, the railing going upstairs is unstable and should be fixed. The back yard is a bit messy.

The railing is secured. We will have the carpet cleaned. Absolutely nothing is in the backyard, so I do not know what he means by a bit messy.

Low Quality
Property is very low grade. Everything was dusty and dirty. One shower down stairs and upstairs bath has a tub that has been painted, so picking paint off yourself after a bath isn’t really smiled upon. No trash bags, ice maker does not work and no interior doors lock. Definitely a good idea to remove it from Vrbo as it is not maintained and ready for visitors.

We did remove it from Vrbo because we could not find good help. We wanted to honor their booking so we did not cancel on them, (although it sounds like we should have) plus we are selling the house. It is a normal house with no locks on interior doors. Read other reviews, they say it is a good place to stay especially for the money!!!!! We recently found a good house keeper that cleans well and she is taking care of the restocking of trash bags. They knew there is only one brand new tub/shower downstairs and we will look into paint in the tub upstairs.

My wife, kids, and I stayed here for three nights and we were very pleased. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the owner was quick to respond to any questions and address any issues. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience.

You get what you pay for
This house was a very mixed bag for us. We are very experienced VRBO guests & so we know that you get what you pay for. Our stay was only 3 nights, in the winter. We realized it was a risk to rent a newly listed house with fewer than 5 reviews & the place did not make a good first impression when the front doorknob fell off when we tried to unlock the door (missing set, & collar screws). The deadbolt worked fine however. This is an old house on an old residential street in Ft. Scott. Inside, it's kind of somber & some rooms are a bit slapdash & unkempt. It's a large & kind of odd, rambling interior. There are better & worse rooms. Some are carpeted, others are just the bare, painted-plank floors. We liked the kitchen space best. We always cook. We want to stress that the fundamental features were delivered: the beds, bathrooms, towels & linens were clean. The heat worked. The plumbing worked The doors locked. The beds were comfortable. Communication with the owner was easy & timely & the business was done smoothly. It's always hard to assess risk when you're a stranger in town, but 2 of the 3 exterior doors were back-set locks only. Only the front door had a deadbolt. This might bother some folks, but we felt secure enough in the neighborhood. The down sides: -the front doorknob is broken -the dishwasher doesn't work -many surfaces (excepting living room, kitchen, & bathrooms) are dusty -no hand-towels, just wash cloths & bath-towels -the house is good for large groups but there are very few place settings provided. The up sides: -wifi is high bandwidth & fast -kitchen is spacious, bright, clean -living room is well-furnished & comfortable -there is a LOT of room.

Major Cleanliness Issues, No Working Smoke Detectors
This house had major cleanliness issues. One of the beds appeared to have been slept in without the sheets being changed. The comforter was pulled up to make it look like the bed was made, so we didn’t discover this until right before bedtime. Therefore, we felt we couldn’t trust any of the beds and stayed up until 5:30 am to wash the sheets on each bed we were using. I contacted the host about this. When she responded the next morning, she assured me the sheets had been washed and apologized that one looked slept in. I can accept that this was probably correct for most of the beds, but I can confidently say that one bed had dirty sheets. I asked for a credit for the approx. $10 we spent on laundry detergent, since it’s not provided in the house. She refused, since I booked the “new listing discount” rate. According to her, that rate assumes that the listing would have problems, since we were their 2nd guests ever. This is contrary to what a VRBO customer service rep told me; the rate is meant to attract potential guests to the property in order to begin acquiring positive reviews. I can assure you that had we known we would have had to stay up almost all night washing sheets that should’ve already been washed, we would’ve stayed somewhere else, discount or not. I also wanted to ask for a refund of the first night but decided it was pointless, since she was clearly unwilling to accommodate. There were also several bags of foul-smelling trash on the enclosed back porch. The microwave and stove were dirty. The dishwasher had mold stains on the inside of the door. Also, the detergent door doesn’t open during the wash cycle, so the dishes are cleaned w/ water only. There was used soap in the shower, and one extra bar of unused soap high up in a cabinet that we didn’t discover until after we went to buy soap. In all fairness, the host had not used that housekeeper before. Also, we arrived the same day that the previous guests left, which, according to the host, VRBO should not have allowed. The housekeeper struggled to clean the house between their departure and our arrival, so it seems that the house was minimally cleaned. I would’ve preferred for the host to cancel our booking as soon as she realized that VRBO mistakenly allowed us to book the same day that the previous guests were checking out, if she anticipated the cleaning being an issue. However, this wasn’t done, and we had to finish the cleaning ourselves, even after paying a cleaning fee.

This was the second guest to stay and he wanted to check in same day others checked out (I told him that we would try to get house cleaned before they checked in) he said they were running late so It would give her more time. No one was staying in the room with the unmade bed so housekeeper missed that bed But all other beds were washed. (Why would it take so long to wash sheets? They are all white and can go in one load. He only paid $80 for all guests… so maybe he should have paid more for all of them in a motel room.
