Black Bear Cave is a beautiful cabin situated on the 92-acre retreat property known as Woodland Retreat at DeSoto. As its name implies, this cabin and retreat property offer guests a peaceful retreat and cool mountain getaway, deep in the woods and high atop Lookout Mountain in Alabama. This cabin has a front and back no-stairs entrance (4 ft+ ramp), 32” interior doors, and wide floor space in the bedroom and in the living room. Explore waterfalls, parks, shops, and restaurants. Relax by the rock fire pit or on the front porch with a cup of coffee, and enjoy views through a canopy of trees. Wildlife is spotted frequently on the property, and beautiful hiking trails are walking distance as the backyard of the cabin is part of DeSoto State Park. Renew, refresh, and be restored!

    **THE RETREAT PROPERTY**

Not long after you turn onto the private road that winds through the retreat property, you will pass Coyote Cabin and then The Otter Box Cabin on your left (also listed). Soon after, you will see Black Bear Cave, also on the left, along with your own private parking area (2 cars max).

Beside your parking area at Black Bear Cave, there walking ramp that leads to the front porch. At the bottom of the walking ramp, there is a small concrete pad for wheelchair access. You will appreciate the forest views from the covered porch area. There are 2 Adirondack chairs, and this is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea in the morning and take in the views :)

Stepping inside the cabin, you will know your peaceful retreat has begun as you are surrounded by windows that reveal refreshing views through a canopy of trees. Be sure to look up and notice the beautiful wood ceiling that was built by the homeowners and upcycled from hurricane-weathered wood planks on Alabama's own coast in Baldwin County.

Moving into the main living area, there are two comfortable recliners with additional floorspace consideration for our guests who require a wheelchair. There is a gas log fireplace for your enjoyment, and for movie nights in, there is a Roku smart television in the living room with fast Wi-Fi for streaming your own favorite channel subscriptions.

Near the front door, there is a smaller dining table to allow for wider floor space consideration, and there are 2 chairs as well as a bench. In the kitchen area, there is a refrigerator, stove, microwave, 10-cup coffee maker, toaster, cooking pots, can opener, pans and utensils, dishes, drinking glasses, eating utensils, cooking spices, coffee mugs, and more.

A full bathroom, also with a 32-inch doorway, includes a spacious step-in shower with a hand-held shower option and grab bar. Also in the bathroom is a stackable washer and dryer for your convenience.

The primary bedroom has a 32-inch doorway, wider floor space and beautiful view through the glass door into the wooded backyard. There is a king-size bed with a 10" Dreamer, memory foam mattress and comfortable bedding to help you rest well. There is a ceiling fan and lamps with usb charging ports for your convenience. Guests will also appreciate the walk-in closet and Roku TV for streaming your channel subscriptions.

In the primary bedroom, there is an exterior door that leads to a private back porch. There are 2 chairs for another great place to relax, and beautiful walking ramp that leads to the parking area.

Near the cabin, you will notice a double hammock for an afternoon nap, and a river rock fire pit designed with your retreat in mind. You are welcomed to use any small pieces of fallen wood that can safely fit inside the fire pit, and firewood bundles are sold at nearby stores. Please only burn firewood, as the homeowners and guests roast food over this fire pit. Extendable roasters are located in a kitchen drawer for your convenience, so be sure to bring ingredients for s'more memories. Near the fire pit is your Charcoal/wood-burning Campground-Style BBQ Grill with a metal bucket and lid to collect BBQ grill ashes :)

we were unable to stay our full-time due to unforeseen circumstances on our part however, during the stay, the cabin was a fantastic place. It was neat, clean and well kept. There is plenty to do outside the area however, if you like your privacy, this is the place to go. We will be revisiting that place in the future. The communication between us and the owners was always met quickly and positively, even though we needed very little contact.

This is a new property within several already established cabins/homes. This is perfect for a couple wanting to get away. Close enough to visit places or hide out at the cabin. Communication with the property management was awesome and have no complaints. Would stay here again.
