We offer our guests a smoke free environment at our home on beautiful blue Lake Huron. Our house rules remind guests about our non-smoking atmosphere and pet policies that will not only benefit your stay and experience but are intended pleasantries for future guests. These kind of rules are not unexpected surprises and were posted on our site.

A quiet and comfortable place definitely needs at least a two night stay to totally enjoy! I agree one night kind of cheats you with only a glistening glimpse of what Lake Huron offers during any season. A large space and games can be helpful during these colder days and I am so glad you granddaughter found "some things to play with and explore"! We are sorry the visit didn't meet your expectations, Sonya. This property has been providing family fun for decades. We have met every version of every type of guest, and we are not at all surprised by this review or your comments. To set the record straight and in the simplest terms, you broke the terms of your rental agreement while neither exhibiting good manners nor proper VRBO guest etiquette. You should have been asked to leave immediately. However, our sense of hospitality required us to find common ground so that you and your family might enjoy your time with us while also ensuring that we remained good stewards of our property and our neighborhood. 1) Day 1....When the property owner saw both your dogs unleashed, she kindly asked you to follow the rental requirement and have all dogs leashed at all times. However, you continued to break this rule, leaving others at risk. We are proud of our pet friendly status, but not every person on or around our property is dog friendly. Additionally, there are other dogs in the neighborhood that get loose and there are other people who have access to our nearly 1 acre of lakefront property, including the owners and long-term renters. None of these individuals should be made to feel intimidated by the presence of guest's pets that are not under control and properly leashed. Rules are in place to keep everyone safe. Your argumentative and curt response to the simple and polite request tipped the owner off that your stay might require additional attention. We have come to know and understand those who would willingly take advantage of our kind nature, and your continued flouting of house rules was no surprise. 2) Day 2...You originally registered 2 adults and 1 child. The first full-day of your stay, 4 vehicles and more than a dozen people arrived. When the owner approached you and asked how many people you had invited to the property, you informed the owner that six+ people were now staying in the rental and others were coming. You did not inform the property manager about how many people were actually registering in the rental. You further failed to inform the manager about your intent to host events on the property; both clear violations of your rental agreement. Events, including beach parties, are never permitted on the property. We fully expect that misunderstanding happen, the renter didn't take the time to read all the information/detail, so allowances are made and a fee is issued for each guest over the limit. This is intended to be a deterrent for future misunderstandings while giving the renter an opportunity not to be embarrassed by their failure to follow the rules and then having to ask their guest to leave the property. 3) Day 3....with little respect for these allowances, you then proceeded to have another beach party event including upwards of a dozen people. You have yet to pay any of the additional fees you agreed to. Again, not a surprise. 4) With the hope of finding understanding with you, the property owner took time to explain the local township ordinance (https://burtchville.org/wp/short-term-rental-ordinance-2/) regarding short term rental rules (Sections 4D & 4F) outlining the number of people and vehicles allowed on property. However, you did not respect the request to follow the rules. Unfortunately, you had no problem putting our property and our short-term lease agreement with our governing township in jeopardy because you, "like to party". 5) It's also important to detail the other problems your party created during your stay, including breaking the water handle in the bathroom shower without informing the manager so it could repaired in a timely manner; and the lack of boundaries exhibited by your beach party guest as they ventured on neighboring property, leaving water toys, chairs and debris all over the beach, even in front of other resident's homes. We take our renter's evaluations very seriously. And, over these many years, we do know that we cannot please everyone, every time. However, we do our very best to ensure guests enjoy their stay while providing a safe and stress-free environment for all those who are on or around our property. It is unfortunate that Sonya used this evaluation process to strike out at the owner/manager simply because she got caught breaking the rules set forth in the her rental agreement as we tried at every opportunity to make the situation as pleasant as possible for all concerned.

"LAKE HOUSE FUN" is for EVERYONE even if it's only for a few days. During these off season months, I am always so glad to see 5 STARS as guests mention our WONDERFUL BEACH from a relaxing and roomy house with a GOOD VIEW of the lake. Lake Huron rolls onto the shores of Canada and guests are sometimes surprised this country is just a short ride over the beautifully lit Blue Water Bridge which is only about 20 minutes south from this home. I counted it myself. Cassandra, OMG I am so very SORRY to hear about your bridesmaid! It is a small step that can be problematic and thought the two warning signs would help but I will definitely try and rectify the issue. Please send her my APOLOGIES! In my welcome letter, I try to help as much as possible by explaining the entry door of the home on the deck but, I will find another way to help guests with this matter. This is our first season and I am still working out the kinks. The address numbers is displayed in written form on the East wall of the home and our listing on the VRBO site has 40 + pictures. Pictures of outside the home, beach and driveway along with inside fully showing the spaces provided. The queen bedroom, living area, kitchen and bathroom are described along with two window AC units one in each bedroom. The house is big enough to be split by a locked wall door opening the adjoined home SUITE for a larger group of VRBO guests which is also stated in the description. Nothing is left unsaid. Lake Huron does give almost all cell phone users in Lakeport somewhat of a small challenge. Texting does work best and our WIFI helps considerably but more steps and distance away from Lake Huron allows a better connection. I find your review very useful and thank you for your comments and concerns. Overall, I am glad you thought my VRBO home was "clean, comfortable provides a great location and loved it was pet friendly"! You are more than welcome to come and stay with us again. Paula, first off I apologize your stay wasn't enjoyable and I will improve my manager skills from this experience. This is my VERY first season through VRBO, I am still working on how to communicate my welcome letter and house rules to guests. PAULA, honestly, you are the ONLY family thus far, I have encountered such issues with!! I do feel I need to make it clear and express myself on a few of your points from your review. Paula, you admitted you read my VRBO listing and it clearly states under rule number one, dogs vaccinations and licenses are required PRIOR to stay, rule number three states if ANY dog rule is broken guests will be asked to leave without a refund. You even admitted, you knew rule number two that dogs were to be leashed at all times. You were being deceitful and just CHOSE not to talk or even ask about your pet staying until I found out. It is UNFAIR to other guests who follow the rules and pay for their pet to stay! Point two, Paula, after your final registration, only ONE child was listed by YOU but, by your words in your review and my observations you had at least 3 MORE children STAYING during the days and nights on and off plus EXTRA adult guests. In my welcome letter, I stated that TWICE extra guests are NOT allowed and fees will be added but, you were unclear to me again, CHOOSING NOT TO TELL me as to who was coming. I asked you to keep me in the loop and I TRIED to work with you through these issues and actually our LAST conversation I thought we came to an understanding and you ACTED sincerely because we both walked away with a HANDSHAKE and a smile. Finally, I thought we were on the same PAGE but your review spoke otherwise and was TRULY shocking to me! HONESTY is the best policy but, as I LOOK back at your stay, I feel you and your family were being DISHONEST from the start! You DID NOT care to COMMUNICATE almost all of your actions and just TOOK advantage of my graciousness while BREAKING most of the house RULES!. And, as you continued to stay, I decided to let these issues GO! Issues like, the pet misunderstanding, pet fee or no refund rule, extra guests and all the vehicles that AGAIN you did not care to discuss with me prior to your stay. Which brings me to point three, the first night there were 3 vehicles the next day there were 5 without any kind of understanding or notification until I HAD to approach YOU and ask about all of your vehicles. Some days, there were 6! Through all of this, I kept asking myself where was this family's common COURTESY? Why are there so many blatant ACTS of DECEPTION? Lastly, It is obvious to me from YOUR words in your RANT review, you and your family were totally DISHONEST and continued to SHOW nothing but DISRESPECT for me, my position and my "beautiful beach property". It is MY CHOICE as property manager and host to allow you to stay at my place and I WILL NOT welcome you or your family back. - Diana - I ask future guests to please check out my other listing on the same property for the house SUITE.
