• It's easy — first, pack in your passport, travel docs, wallet and daily medications. Next, you'll want some in-flight entertainment to while away the time. • Your belt, coat, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your headphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as your turn draws near.
• Electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go through the machine to be scanned. No need to worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
• Don't forget to remove gels and liquids from your carry-on bag. They usually need to be sent through the X-ray scanner separately. Each product should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit in a single quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Safety boots and other bulky shoes are often subjected to additional screening.
• Sharp or pointed items are not allowed on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them safely away in your checked luggage.
