Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you're well organised. We've made a list of handy travel tips that will help get your Simos holiday started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane ride can be a stress-free experience if you bring the right things. Firstly, you'll want a few toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a fresh set of clothes and a good read. Pointed or sharp objects, like your treasured pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as spray paint, flares and strong acids, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose, breathable clothing is a wise choice, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• The result of sustained periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clotting condition that can affect passengers during long flights. Lower your risks by drinking water, keeping your ankles and legs moving and wearing compression socks or tights.

• Airport security personnel first need to check that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them close by, ready for inspection.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes items like headphones or earphones, as well as your coat or jacket. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
• For just a few moments, you'll have to unplug from technology. Your tablet, phone and any other electronic gadgets will need to go through the scanner.
• Any gels or liquids, such as hair oil or hand cream, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), zip-lock bag.
• It's also likely that you'll be required to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a smart idea.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them safely away in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed on board.
