Depending on where you're coming from, your journey to Rieu could be a breeze or it could go on forever. We've rounded up some tips that will help you start your next unforgettable escape on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a pleasure if you've got all the right gear. First of all you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare set of clothes and a good read. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your mobile phone, a charger, any daily medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of prohibited items can differ between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes box cutters, razor blades, aerosol cans and bleaching agents. Sporting equipment like baseball bats, and items that could injure passengers, such as firearms and ammunition, aren't allowed in the cabin either.

What to wear on a flight:

• Your top priority is to be as comfortable as you can. Go for flat, closed-toe shoes, dress in loose, breathable clothing and don't forget to take a sweater in case it gets chilly in the cabin.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks.

As seasoned travellers know, the secret is to be prepared before you reach the airport security gate. That way, you'll be stepping onto that plane to Rieu in the blink of an eye. Follow these helpful tips and get your trip off to a terrific start:

• Security personnel first need to see that you have a valid passport and matching boarding pass before you're allowed to proceed any further. Have them ready to show.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything on you that is likely to beep. This includes things like headphones or earphones, as well as your coat or jacket. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.

• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you valuable minutes. Hiking boots are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Slip-on sneakers usually aren't.
• Sharp items are not allowed on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.
