No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you're well prepared. We've put together a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Cape Town escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane trip can be a cruisy experience if you bring the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a clean set of clothes and something to read. • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-distance flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to inactivity and poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.
