No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you're well organised. We've put together a list of handy hints that will help get your Blons escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Travelling on a plane can be a cruisy experience if you take the right things. What to wear on a flight:

• Your main priority is to be as comfortable as you can. Choose easy-to-remove footwear, dress in loose, breathable clothing and remember to bring a pullover in case you get chilly in the cabin.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks.

• First things first. Your passport and boarding pass will need to be inspected by airport security personnel. Have them close by so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Your belt, jacket, keys and other contents of your pockets, like coins, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• All your electronic devices, including your tablet and phone, are also required to be scanned.
• Any liquids or gels, such as toothpaste or perfume, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• The right choice of footwear can save you several minutes. Boots are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Slip-on sneakers usually aren't.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed on board.
