Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Fengshutan?
The best area to stay in Fengshutan is generally around the main entrance to the Huangshan Scenic Area, specifically near Tangkou Town.

Tangkou Town serves as the primary gateway to the Huangshan Scenic Area, meaning it's the most convenient spot for accessing the mountain and its cable car stations. You'll find a good selection of hotels here, ranging from comfortable guesthouses to more luxurious options, often with shuttle services directly to the cable car entrances. The town itself is relatively small, with shops and restaurants suiting visitors.

For those planning to spend most of their time hiking and exploring the Huangshan Scenic Area, staying in Tangkou Town is ideal. It allows for early starts to beat the crowds and easy access back to your accommodation after a long day on the mountain. Many hotels offer packed lunches for hikers, which is a convenient touch.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat after a day of exploration might consider hotels a little further from the immediate hustle and bustle of Tangkou Town, perhaps a short drive into the surrounding countryside.
When is the best time to go to Fengshutan?
The best time to go to Fengshutan is during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring the area.

During spring, the weather is mild and comfortable, with temperatures typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This is when the local flora, particularly the tea plantations, are at their most verdant, making for beautiful scenery. It's an excellent time for outdoor activities like hiking and visiting the tea farms. Couples often find this season particularly enjoyable for its scenic beauty and agreeable climate, superb for romantic strolls through the countryside or enjoying a quiet afternoon tea.

Autumn also provides excellent conditions, with similar mild temperatures and generally clear skies. The landscape takes on a different beauty as leaves change colour, and the air is often crisp and refreshing. This season is ideal for those who prefer cooler weather for exploring and photography, without the humidity of summer or the chill of winter.
