DON'T BOOK WITHOUT A 4-WHEEL DRIVE

There was a huge breakdown in communication. There is only one way to get to this resort and that is over the beach at low tide. Whilst they provided me with low tide information, they didn't tell me it was the only way to get to the hotel. Had I known this in advance (while booking!), I would not have chosen this hotel. There is no way I would drive over the beach with a rental small car that is not a 4-wheel drive SUV.

The property was a bit run down with little maintenance being done. Was uniquely hard to get to and you are trapped at the hotel by the tides. Extremely friendly staff family the best meals we have had in Ecuador.

It looked good, the beds were comfortable but it was extremely noisy with buses leaving in the middle of the night at the front of the hotel. There was no hot water and the swimming pool was scummy and not kept clean. They seem to be understaffed.

Muy difícil acceso

El hotel es hermoso y la atención de quienes trabajan allí fue excelente. Ricardo fue muy atento, nos preparó los desayunos, almuerzos y cenas según nuestros gustos y todo fue realmente exquisito. El lugar es lindo y tranquilo, pero hay un problema y no es un dato menor, el cual no se aclara en ningún momento al hacer la reserva, y es que solo se puede acceder al hotel por la playa. El hotel está a 1 kilómetro y medio del pueblo. Lo más complicado es que solo se puede ir cuando la marea está baja y el caudal del río que desemboca en el mar es bajo. Nosotros llegamos a las 17 hs y tuvimos que esperar en el pueblo hasta las 23 hs para ver si bajaba la marea y podíamos llegar al hotel. Como no bajó lo suficiente hicimos una noche en un hotel que buscamos a esa hora y recién al día siguiente fuimos caminando hasta este hotel. Era imposible ir con el auto y las valijas hasta allá, por lo que pagamos una cochera y solo llevamos algunas cosas en las mochilas hasta el hotel. Para irnos tuvimos el mismo problema, salimos a las 6 AM porque se suponía que a esa hora podíamos cruzar el río, pero no fue así. Nos empapamos bajo la lluvia y tuvimos que cruzar un puente terrorífico para llegar al pueblo y poder salir del pueblo. Me parece que esto es algo que deben de aclarar mejor al ofrecer este alojamiento pues no todos pueden acceder al hotel y salir tan fácilmente.

Calm and beautiful

Beautiful place, very calm and perfect for some serious unwinding. Clean, spacious, very friendly staff (and cat). WiFi worked well, in the lobby. Bring cash, the nearest withdrawal machine is one and a half hours away. And bring mosquito spray and/or a mosquito net. The hotel is located directly on the beach. And thats pretty much all that there is, a stunning beach as long as the eye can see. And no one but you there. A 20 minute walk away (along the beach) is the tiny village of Mompiche. Playa negra is 30 minutes walking distance from the Mompiche village. You can always take a moto-taxi if you prefer that.

Muy lindo!

Súper recomendable para parejas. Ricardo es muy amable y está siempre atento a las necesidades. El lugar es hermoso, apartado del pueblo (que en mi opinión no es muy lindo) y tranquilo. Estaría bueno que agregaran reposeras y/o hamacas en la zona de playa para aprovechar mejor el lugar y estar más cómodos, tomar sol, etc. El tema de la marea para entrar y salir del hotel también es un poco complicado, aunque no imposible si uno va con paciencia y en modo “vacaciones”. Recomiendo este lugar para pasar unos días tranquilos en pareja.
