We chose the hotel for the charming Castle atmosphere, to relax at the pool and sleep well. The pool was closed for renovation (stupid idea to renovate a pool end of June!), there was EVERY NIGHT of our stay a super loud wedding taking place just literally meters away from our room. We couldn't sleep at night. We went crazy with the loud music. Last but not least, when we booked the hotel, seeing the great outdoor area it has we were expecting that breakfast would be outdoor in the garden. Well, no. It is down in a small cave and the breakfast was horrible. The Management is really doing everything against logic. As it is a very expensive hotel, it is clearly not worth it. I wouldn't recommend it

We would like to inform you that our outdoor pool has been under renovation since this winter, and we completed the work at the beginning of July due to unforeseen delays not imputable to the management, which was certainly not happy to be able to open the pool only in July, so we apologize for the inconvenience. Our Relais has multiple rooms and large outdoor spaces, which allows us to host multiple events at once, allowing everyone to enjoy their privacy. We are sorry that more than one event was held during your stay, but we would like to reassure you that these are not the order of the day.We also always try to assign rooms away from the current event. In any case, we are sorry that you perceived some confusion.Regarding breakfast, we are sorry that the breakfast room was not to your liking, but since our facility is a Castle, it takes place in one of our ancient rooms.We really hope you will give us a second chance since our aim is to make our Guests' stay with us memorable experiences of a lifetime.

This was one of the most beautiful, unique, and extraordinary places I have stayed and I travel a lot. Built as an armory in the 1300s.. then a private residence with a pink palazzo. Just stunning. Lovely, clean and unique rooms. Beautiful grounds. Excellent accommodating staff.

The pool and the grounds were very lovely. The restaurant was quite good. It was a great spot to spend a couple of nights.

Beautiful hotel, very good restaurant. However, breakfast gets 1 star (very very poor). Service at check-out was also poor, not helpful at all.

Good room-eventually!!
When we arrived they gave us room 207 which was a box room at the top of stairs with no window to see out--depressing. I showed them pics on Hotels.com of room we had booked--which was nothing like the one given-and they then found us a much better room. Staff were helpful and apologetic but it took us some time to settle down!!

Lovely stay with my family
Beautiful room, grounds and pool. We stayed with our daughter for one night and it was really lovely for children too. Drinks at the bar were unnecessarily expensive with the usual Tuscan bottles and prices in the restaurant. Restaurant was nice not outstanding but lovely location and outdoors which in current times is reassuring. We would definitely stay again, super close to Como too.

A very pleasant castle (One Peasant's Opinion)
Very nice hotel, friendly staff and a pretty setting. The pillows are on the firm side, but I slept just fine, it's a fortress so you could fight a small Calvary and not hear a thing in the room next door.

Great historical architecture and story
Pretentious and indifferent staff. Very little English spoken. Restaurant food quality good, but a bit expensive and not as good as the almost comically stuffy wait staff think it is. I went in December, so the pool area wasn't open. Other than enjoying the castle architecture and wondering how they did all that, and thinking about the history, don't expect much to do without getting in a car. Rooms, hallways, not up to USA safety standards - poorly (or not) lit hallways. Easily missed steps in dark areas. Broken light in bedroom hanging by hot wires. Still, the castle itself is really something to see and stay in despite all of the above. Toss up whether I'd stay there again.

The hotel grounds are lovely, the room was shabby, the receptionist was rude on the first day, the rest of the staff were nice. We asked could we have a room with a bath, and despite the booking saying bath/shower we were told we hadn't booked at "that level". Which seemed odd - they potentially don't like bookings from hotels.com because we used rewards points. The outdoor pool is nicely located but probably not swept out very often. It's quite a far drive from the scenic parts of Lake Como.

Just as good as the first visit.
This was my second visit to the Castello di Casiglio and I was not disapppointed. They staff were just as friendly as last time and the breakfast just as good. I was given a lovely large room but due to it's size and the position on the corner of the building it was a little cold for my comfort, although others would probably have not found it so. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to a special function but we were directed to a very nice little pizzeria only a couple of hundred metres down the road. My only regret was that I left my favourite headband in the room and it is too far to return to collect it. Maybe next year!

good hotel close to Lakes
we chose to stay here to be close to the Lakes and Milan as were flying from Malpensa. With GPS help in the car we managed to find OK. the hotel is in beautiful settings and has lovely views. can't see the Lakes but it is only a 20min drive to Como and to other areas around the Lakes. Driving around the Lakes is an experience with very narrow, windy roads. we were very glad to be staying in a relatively easy driving to and from hotel with parking. the twin room isn't as nice as a double room- the beds were too close together so not a lot of space. the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was lovely with freshly made omelettes. Staff were helpful

Wonderful castle vacation
We loved the hotel which was conveniently close to the wedding venue of our friends and it is conveniently close to Como Lake. The hotel is cosy and gives a relaxing and holiday feeling. The staff is nice and helpful so big thank you to the staff.

Beautiful castle hotel.
Beautiful castle hotel. A bit far from the go-to places of Como and the lake towns, so a car is mandatory, but good place for a romantic, get-away for a few days. Buildings are old, so lacking some of the top-quality amenities found in newer spots, like HVAC system in bedrooms could use an upgrade. But overall very nice place and stay.

Beautiful countryside gem!
Not so easy to find, particularly if relying on Google maps or the posted signs, which take you down a dirt path! But a lovely hotel, perfectly sited for wedding receptions in a gorgeous country setting. Our room was in the back building, which was a maze to get to through basement hallway/tunnels. Included breakfast was delicious with custom-made omelets. Elevator to the lobby wasn't working as we tried to check out, but that was the only major issue. About a 10 mile drive to Como. Would definitely stay here again!

A great find!
This was well worth the splurge for us. We loved this place and would highly recommend it. This is a very unique place. We found that the pool was a great place to hang out and the extensive grounds were wonderful to wander. We'd stay here again in a minute. We also appreciated the staff and their helpfulness.

wonderful place, Stay very helpful especially Irene. Food in restaurant was outstanding and I'm usually very critical of preparation and taste (I send foodback often). Good Location, checkout the Italian super Walmart (Bennet Store) its an adventure in itself. also if you have a car check out Como and take the drive along Lake Como to Bellagio , if you dare. good food in region we ate at random places and all were good . Would definitely stay here again.

Amazing Hotel, very poor service.
I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this would be the best. If some staff have had manners and had customer service training. The location, setting, building, gardens are all first class. However the staff were more than poor. In fact very rude. Also the menu was very limited. We had no option outside of the 8-11 eating times to get any snacks or lunch/ room service.

looking at other reviews before i arrived i was pleased to see that the hotel and grounds and staff were above expectations. The location is good if you want to visit lake como, it has good links to both sides of the lake. On the down side the resturant was too expensive for our taste, but there are plenty of places to eat in and around Erba. The only concern i would of had was if there was a wedding i can see why the hotel may not of been as pleasant to stay in. so i would check before you book. a lot of comments about eating breakfeast in the basement.... it was good quality and choice, eating without windows is not a show stopper, the structure and look of the room is very pleasent Overall i would stay again, all staff were very helpful, pool was good and clean.

We stayed three nights in very nice junior suite. Very good location to go to Milan, helpful staff, very nice building, garden and pool. OK breakfast, but lousy coffee (...). The bells at the nearby church ring every hour, even at night....

what a disappointment.
The hotel building is interesting and the grounds very pleasant but the Receptionist did not show us to our room or offer us help with our bags on arrival. The room was very sparse, dark and not very welcoming or comfortable, although bathroom ok. Problem was there was a loud "tecno music" party on around the pool that went on all afternoon and evening with an incessant noise that could not be avoided any where in the hotel. So dinner outside, although pretty good with nice waiting staff, was ruined by the loud awful music. Breakfast was absolutely dire, worst on any trip to Italy, tinned fruit, processed orange juice, horrible rolls, nasty coffee etc, etc.

a beautiful place to stay if a little remote
It is a very beautiful place to stay, it was our honeymoon so we wanted somewhere remote not too touristy to relax and the grounds are lovely. It was a trek from Milan Malpensa though. Not sure we would have booked if we had known it was tricky to get to in the evening! Beware of no buses from Erba in the evening after a certain time. Call the hotel before booking - make them check what time your last bus is or you will pay 25-40 euros for a cab from there, or from Mariano. The hotel is beautiful and ideal for a couple who want to get away and willing to pay 40 euros to go to Como and then get the ferry for Bellagio's stunning views. Also the hotel has a lovely pool and good service, though you need the english speakers to be on if you are going to get a cab booked, if you get stuck in Como late, like we did! They were helpful then, especially Stacey. The hotel room service is very dear and so is the restaurant, but that may be expected. Ask for well done if you have the beef, as Italy gives you meat much rawer than you are used to. Also, get a fixed price for taxis each time - check that they are coming as one was meant to be 20 mins, and it was an hour! The local tourist cabs are called radio taxis at the stands and they can charge a lot more than calling one from hotel. So in conclusion a beautiful place to stay if you don't mind being remote and a little cut off but want to relax by the pool etc. Get an early flight from Malpensa so that you can get there easier!

what a wonderful surprise when we arrived at the hotel! We were not expecting the surrounding beautiful grounds, outside optional dining, breakfast room, outstanding views and pool. Very reasonably priced.

Stayed at this hotel before so expected the same standards. The hotel and surrounds, pool etc were excellent with a good pool service & clean towels supplied for swimming. The hotel was very clean our beds were very comfortable but the bathroom was tired & needed a facelift, Our breakfasts were more than adequate with plenty of choice. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to my friends.

Lots of weddings and was very noisy with music one night going on to 01330 hours. Breakfast was good with nice staff. However, lunch and dinner menu was limited for children and expensive for the amounts they ate. Grounds of hotel were very nice. Family junior suite was large and comfortable but rather basic and dated.

The first night we got one of the old rooms. It was really terrible. The refurbished rooms are aw better. Consumption at the hotel is expensive. Drinks are expensive and so is dinner. Quality of Mel's is good but you can eat with the same quality, or even more, at Lecco or Como. If coming back to the region, I'd evaluate other options closer to Como.
