The Laughing Gull is your nest at this boutique resort on beautiful Manasota Key! Part of the Shorebirds Beach Cottages property. Newly renovated just a 3 min walk to the Gulf waters and a shell strewn beach. This cottage features two bedrooms, king bed, queen bed with luxurious linens, and comfy mattresses, a sleeper sofa in the living room plus a thoughtfully appointed kitchen and dining table are among the comforts offered for your carefree vacation. Enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail on your private screened porch or hang out in our lush tropical backyard garden. In the evening, take a quick stroll to awe at the most dramatic sunsets, found only on this side of the gulf!

From your cottage, you can be on the beach in a short 3 minute walk, conveniently paved all the way to the sand. To get you there with ease, we provide a beach cart, chairs, beach towels, and an umbrella for your day at the beach. We also have some other beach items available like boogie boards, noodles, sand toys, and coolers.

Explore the key on one of our adult-sized beach bicycles or venture out on a SUP or Kayak, all available to our Shorebirds registered guests. We even have wheels to easily take the kayaks to the launch, a 5 minute walk away.

Relax in our tropical backyard oasis by one of our wood or gas burning fire pits, a great place to gather and meet your neighbors. We also have BBQ grills, laundry, and outdoor showers.

The Laughing Gull offers other conveniences such as: a contactless, private entry. Microwave, Keurig coffee maker, refrigerator. Free Wi-Fi. A cable connected 50” Smart TV is in the living room and 36” TV’s in each bedroom to watch live programming or to view shows using your favorite streaming apps.

Enjoy our island culinary delights at one of our local restaurants where you are likely to find live music most days of the week......only a 15 minute walk, 8 minute bicycle ride, or take a ride on Stumpy's Free Ride, our island golf cart service.

Explore the other Key beaches including Englewood Beach, Blind Pass Beach and Manasota Beach, each offering another glimpse of the island life on Manasota Key!

This cottage is the right unit of a very quiet duplex shared by the White Pelican.

Please Note: 
For your maximum comfort, the number of overnight guests in the Laughing Gull is limited to 5 people, see the following combinations of persons:

This is a non-smoking property. Smoking is not allow inside cottages, nor on porches or in any outdoor space on the property. Smokers must take a stroll off property at or beyond the sidewalk to smoke.

Ed and Jen far and above expectations to make sure we had everything and was satisfied with our stay. Place was very clean, and well taken care of. Beach is very close,and restaurants within walking distance. It’s a great location

Perfect for our family

We loved the location. It was close to the beach & restaurants, had a ton of amenities, lots of small touches that made a difference and very clean! Just right for our stay to visit with our family that lives in the area over the winter.

Perfect cottages!

All of the Shorebirds Cottages are absolutely perfect to rent for couples, and now, for our whole family! While small and cozy, they had everything we needed, or forgot to bring. We enjoyed the ease of the kayak and bike use and the laundry facilities are pristine! The entire rental is perfectly located and very clean. Jen and Eddie have done a wonderful job fixing up after the 2024 hurricanes-the whole city has done an extraordinary clean-up since our Christmas visit, we were pleasantly surprised! PS-The extra large, super soft bath towels were a bonus! Can’t wait to stay again!

Another excellent stay

I stayed with my parents at Shorebirds. We enjoyed a nice, relaxing stay in the perfect location. Jen & Eddie have thought of everything... from the outdoor shower to welcome snacks & drinks to coolers & umbrella for the beach. We took the kayaks for a paddle on Lemon Bay, searched for baby sharks teeth & walked to the sunset every night. We couldn't really imagine a more perfect stay. Thank you!

Exceptionally well appointed

Newly renovated, clean, comfortable, close to everything and quiet. Has EVERYTHING you need, even dryer sheets. Snacks and drinks waiting for your arrival. Even has a "shibumi" for the beach. Couldnt have asked for anything more. Will bebstaying with Shorebirds for our next trip. Just the vacation we needed!

Stupendous Sunshine Stay

Everything about this place was just perfect! The location is brilliant, close to the hustle of Englewood beach and a skip from the nature/splendor of Stump Pass, with bikes SUPs and kyacks to get you from one spot to another. The home owners were exceptionally responsive and the space was so thoughtfully equipped from beach gear to the finer details like travel size shampoos and extras. Most impressive to the foodie-the kitchen utilities were top notch, knives were sharp, quality pots and pans etc. just truly made our vacation over the top!

Exceptional Accommodation

Our first trip to Manasota Key and Laughing Gull / Shorebirds was a great find! The unit was spotless, absolutely the cleanest, best maintained VRBO we have ever visited, and we've been to many. New furnishings and appliances, quality cookware, comfortable bed, water pressure in the shower (and an outdoor shower!), plus a lot of little extras and nice amenities that conveyed the owner's appreciation. Very highly recommended!

All the small things!

Awesome cottage, you can really tell the owners put a lot of thought into making sure guests have everything they need. We felt like we could have shown up with clothes and would have been set for the week. Toiletries, spices, sunscreen, beach towels, beach toys, books, you name it and they likely had it somewhere on the property! They even had a welcome basket with snacks, wine, beer and waters. The place was spotless, beds were extremely comfortable. We couldn’t have asked for anything more for our stay!

Wonderful Bungalow by the Beach

I highly recommend the Laughing Gull cottage! It is an immaculate, beautiful and peaceful space shelter from the Florida heat after a day in the sun. The proprietors provide generous accommodations for guests' every need - from pre-stocked cool drinks in the refrigerator to beach chairs, umbrellas, bikes, and kayaks available for use right outside the door. The outdoor fire pit provide a wonderful space for guests to gather in the evenings. The lanai in the front of the rental is a nice little space to enjoy coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening in cooler weather. The AC was easy to operate and was wonderful to step into after an afternoon on the beach! When I go back to Manasota Key, I will book the Laughing Gull!

Amazing rental - top notch!

This is an amazing place to stay! I have probably rented 30-40 VRBO condo’s over the past 20 years, and this condo would for sure be in the top 3! The master bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well stocked. The living room area has a comfortable couch and large screen TV. The bathroom had a great shower (no tub, which we preferred). The difference maker for us was all of the little things that made this condo a great place to stay – plenty of Bounty paper towels, Dawn dish liquid, hooks to hang clothes/towels on in the bedroom, plenty of outlets to charge devices, 4 Corona’s and 4 waters in the fridge waiting for us, a complimentary bottle of wine and a couple quick snacks if you need them! The bikes and kayaks are in great shape and only 30 seconds from your front door. There is a propane fueled firepit and a wood burning firepit with 6 Adirondack chairs – literally right outside of your front door (we used the propane firepit at night and it was awesome). We also used the washer/dryer – it was a 30 second walk from the condo and very clean. There is also a lanai with a table, chairs and fully loaded beach cart. We sat on the lanai many times and enjoyed the breeze. Jen (owner) was very responsive and always clear in her communications. Thanks, Jen, for a great stay! We would most definitely stay at this rental again.

We had a great time! The property has a ton of amenities that we take advantage of during our stay like bikes, kayaks and a fire ring in the back yard with a supply of firewood. The host must have anticipated every tiny need of a traveler and filled the kitchen with all appliances and supplies one could possibly think of. Same goes for the bathroom, just like in a first class hotel.

Great little cottage

Three adults and one child came for the weekend and it was great. Really great location. Short walk to a beach and had all of the amenities one could need. Jen was super responsive to messages! Would definitely recommend and stay here again

Everything about the property was great. I didn’t really like how everything was shared among multiple rentals. Luckily for us, the other units were not booked so we had everything to ourselves. Not sure I would have had the same experience having to share common outdoor areas and amenities with other people. Other than that, everything was great, and the hosts were very professional and helpful when needed.
