Relaxing and quiet
We wanted to be next to the ocean and we were very happy sitting on the deck with coffee. We had plenty of room for four of us after our daughter and granddaughter joined us for one night. We didn’t get to see any orcas but the morning and evening skies were wonderful. Larry responded quickly to any questions that we had. Thank you for the lovely stay.

On a lovely cove with easy pebble beach access, an exceptionally relaxing location with a perfect covered porch. Perfectly located within a quick drive to the grocery stores, bookstores and retailers in Eastsound.

Beautiful and Relaxing
We had a wonderful time. The property is gorgeous and you can't beat the view. Spent time kayaking down the coast and cooking at the house after a day spent out exploring. It was a little chilly in the evenings so we used the fireplace quite a bit. Very easy to use and made for many cozy evenings. This place has lots to take advantage of! Wish we could have stayed longer!

The owners are very nice. I know the amenities weigh into the high price point of this vrbo. But with such a high price point, the amenities should be VERY good. The row boat is missing the pins that hold the oars in place (and they were missing last year we were came too). This makes rowing the boat almost impossible. The hammock was broken before we arrived. The steps leading down to the beach are very overgrown. Both times we visited, it just left us very disappointed considering how much we paid for this trip. .

Hi Kelli, Thanks for your review. Two of your complaints (the row boat pins and path to the beach) could have fixed in just a few minutes if you had only mentioned them to us. We were not aware the hammock was broken and only noticed it after you left. As hosts, we want to give all our guests a great experience, and 99% of our guests have a great experience. But if you don’t give us an opportunity to fix problems immediately by telling us about them, there isn’t much we can do!

Fantastic Honeymoon House
We spent the last leg of our San Juan Island Honeymoon here and it was just perfect. Very comfortable house with amazing views and outdoor seating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is so close to town for eating and shopping. Also close to hiking at Moran State Park. We swam in lakes and in the ocean. Took advantage of the hot tub and playing games. While the house would comfortably fit 4 more folks, it is perfect for couples. The hosts were very easy to work with. While you’ll find many rules and the need to sign a contract, it makes sense to keep the peace with the residents. Truly magical space!

Rustic Waterfront
We just came back from a week stay at this property and overall it was a great rental. The location absolutely can't be beat. Nothing better than waking up to the sunrise over the water and watching all kinds of wildlife from the porch. The owners also provided a lot of fun recreational options - kayaks, bikes, ping pong etc which was nice. There was a fire ban in progress so we couldn't use the fire pit outside but that couldn't be helped. In terms of the house itself things were a little more rustic than I thought they would be. There was a fireplace in the main living area that didn't work and I was under the impression that it had an insert that I assumed would look like a fire but it ended up just a little dinky electric plug in log set that just glowed. Also, the decor felt a bit dated and needs to be freshened up a bit. Towels, sheets, blankets felt old and a little musty. Plus, it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but in a vacation rental you don't want to be staring at family photos on the walls. It made me a bit uncomfortable like I was crashing in a strangers house. Again, location can't be beat and that's really what we were there for. Orcas is definitely the best of the San Juans in my opinion and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Simply magical!
Larry and Michelle are such gracious hosts (and also very fun conversationalists)! The place is pure magic, with an interesting history and stellar views. We saw loads of wildlife, including a curious mink! We were a group of family and friends and had an absolute blast on the kayaks and sitting outside enjoying the super-relaxed vibe. This was our second stay here and we are already planning/hoping for a third! By far our best VRBO experience ever. Thanks, Larry and Michelle!

Couldn’t have been better!
Was like staying at a great friend’s house! The view was stupendous and there were all sorts of things to keep us entertained (boats, a hot tub, sitting on the deck, watching movies!). Everything was so well thought through and appointed. The bedrooms might be lacking in a bit of privacy if you were to go with a group of couples. The third bedroom is a loft with twin beds that is open to the living room. But we had the best time and can’t wait to go back!

August vacation
The property was accurately listed and presented. Our family had a great week and spent 90% of our time outdoors on the island, in the backyard, and along the water. I was really impressed with all the little things that are there and well stocked for your use during the week.....everything from bikes to tin foil. There were only 2 things that were off putting but they were minor and did not effect our week. 1. I, personally, would not hang family photos. It’s a beautiful family but if I am renting the place for a week, I at least want the illusion that it is mine :). Maybe take them off wall when you are not there. 2. The language in the packet about being quiet and behaving is condescending and off putting. Also raising possibility of being arrested if not following the rules is a bit extreme and overdone. I do not own a rental, however, and I assume something has happened in the past to necessitate that which is unfortunate. 3. I would have the trash guys give a heads up to the renters before he arrives. Walking into the kitchen and seeing some stranger in the entryway was surprising. All in all though...a great week and a spectacular location to be for our vacation. We would gladly rent here again

Jeff, thanks so much for the 5 star review! As you noticed, we make a big effort to provide our guests with every amenity and convenience during their stay. You are correct that our emphasis on quiet hours after 10pm is not directed at you (or the vast majority of thoughtful guests), but is the result of previous disrespectful guests who treated our home and neighborhood like a nightclub, blasting music and loudly partying to all hours. We take such unfortunate behavior very seriously, and our extreme warnings are meant for those folks and I’m sorry if you found that off-putting. We Love Buckhorn Lodge
This was our second trip to Buckhorn Lodge. It's such an incredible spot. The full deck is just perfect to sit on and stare at the unbeatable view. The inside is great as well. There's plenty of space for everyone, and all the amenities you'd ever need. Larry clearly cares deeply about the experience of his guests. Amazing!
A family birthday celebration for several generations brought us to this idyllic location. Everything you could possible need is supplied for you. All ages (from 5 to 75) had a great time playing on the beach, riding bikes, soaking in the hot tub and just chillin with an adult beverage. Overall, a vacation for the memory books. Larry was very responsive to any questions that came up. We voted to do it all over again next year. Thanks Larry!

We shared the space with one other family - 4 adults and 4 kids. The children ranged in ages from 4 to 9. We so appreciated the access to kayaks, bikes, the ping pong table... The views were unreal. While the parents relaxed, the children played! We'd definitley come back.

Buckhorn Lodge is a beautiful place for a family and friends gathering. The beach is great, the view of Mt. Baker is stunning, the access to kayaks and bikes is superb. Great Family Getaway!
Our family had a great time! The house was very clean and rustic Well equipped with all the essentials Back in the day it was a fishing lodge, lots of history. Amazing sunrises, kayaking right out the back door! Bikes, ping pong table, jacuzzi We BBQ’d every night Used the fire pit every night (s’mores!) Larry is a great host and has this place well set up! Lots to do on Orcas island Highly recommend the Moran mansion, State Park, and the Pottery place.

Beautiful solitude with amazing views!
The lodge offers a unique experience of functional simplicity. Comfortable lodging with the experience of being right on the water. Great views even from inside the large living room. The deck is such an amazing feature with plenty of seating. Kayaking was a phenomenal experience...so great to have all equipment provided. The kitchen is large and so practical to enjoy meals right where you are. It is a magical area and ideal for those who enjoy the water and appreciate being able to settle in with everything you need right there. We hope to return!

Perfect in every way!
Just left this beautiful home and want to go back already! I think we all probably squealed a little when we first saw this place - we loved this somewhat rustic yet fully functional home and it's beautiful setting. My favorites were the big sunny kitchen, the front deck with a view of the water and the hot tub. Our adult children loved the kayaks, accessibility to the sweet town of East Sound and jogging in Moran State Park. PLUS, you aren't too far away from anything on Orcas Island when you have this home as your base. Larry was so helpful and kind - I don't think we could have asked for a better host. I'm telling anyone who'll listen about our perfect vacation at Orcas Island, at lovely Buckhorn Lodge.

what a view!
We had a lovely family vacation here over the last several days. The view from the back porch was spell-binding, I hadn't realized how spectacularly panoramic it actually is. The views of Mt Baker were just incredible. The lodge was very clean and comfortable, the neighborhood was quiet, the owners left detailed instructions for just about everything. I had to call Larry once because the power went out and I wasn't sure what the protocol was for that. He was super helpful (it was a temporary, widespread, power issue on the island that Orcas Power and Light restored within a couple hours, nothing specific to this house or the location). Was nice to have internet service at the house, just so we could stream the Mariners radio broadcast on the porch in the evening. Just perfect.

Gorgeous location and well-equipped space
Buckhorn Lodge's location: well, it would be hard to beat! Right on the bank facing the sunrise, with an ample deck and plenty of places to sit and enjoy. Inside, the main space is large and open, and again has plenty of places to sit or to gather around a table. Kitchen is big enough for several to work, or to hang and talk while food is prepared. Most everything you might want is there for gatherings, and much of it is of a reasonable quality, though generally well-used. Besides our family (8 folks), we had a few guests round for meals, and everyone loved sitting out to enjoy the views and the sounds of the sea. There is not a lot of public beach on the island, so the beach access was special. Less than 5 stars because things could have been cleaner (frig, dishwasher, some rank-smelling towels, dusty-smelling sofas, bedding, and curtains). Several in our group struggled with allergies during the night when we were inside for sleep, likely due to dust, and maybe molds. We love Orcas Island, and for sheer beauty and peaceableness this is the best place we've ever stayed on the island.

We are pleased to know that our home was the best place you have ever stayed on Orcas Island. But anything less than a 5 star review is cause for concern for us. We always want our guests to have a 5 star experience! We will certainly pay extra attention to the areas you mentioned, though we can assure you that all the sheets and towels were freshly laundered. Worth noting is that any allergies were likely caused by the high levels of smoke and particles in the air from forest fires in British Columbia. San Juan county issued several air quality warnings during your stay due to these severe fires to the north and their impact on the islands. Thanks again for staying with us.

Beautiful. I'm going to have to get a swing!!!
House was beautiful. Well stocked. Even had a step ladder to help load my kayaks. The view from the porch was breathtaking. I was there for relaxation and I spent the majority of my time on the porch, in the swing. Very close to town. Bit of a climb down to beach. But we made it with kayaks and all. There are also kayaks locked up on beach to use. My nephew took the aluminum row boat out. We over packed the home had everything we needed. Would definitely go back again someday.

Lovely cabin with amazing view
Our family of 4 had a great stay at this comfortable home. Perfect location on a quiet private beach, but just a short bike ride to town and 15 minutes to Moran state park. We were spoiled with all the amenities in this home: bikes, kayaks, hot tub, ping pong, fire pit overlooking the beach, movies, games, and a very well supplied kitchen. The kids loved having their own space in the loft. The owner provided detailed instructions which made it easy to enjoy the home and to plan our island activities. We would love to return!

beachfront!!!
We stayed five nights in June-family of four (two teens) and were quite comfortable. The lodge is historic/rustic and they are committed to preserving the past while adding modern conveniences. The best part is the location, you are ocean front and have a great views from the back porch and feel "secluded" even with neighbors. We spent most of our time in Moran State Park which is only about a 7 minute drive. The trails, lakes and waterfalls are beautiful and have multiple trails for everyone from easy to difficult. We did use the kayaks and played ping pong. The table (ping pong) is a little tricky to unfold and would be nice to have a canvas-tarp overhead so that you could play if raining. It was extremely helpful to have shampoo, hand, dishwasher and laundry soaps available for use especially coming from out of state!! The back porch is a great place to enjoy the welcome bottle of wine and chocolates while looking for otters, seals and eagles!! The hot tub is perfect after a long hike or after a quick dunk in the ocean!! Purchase groceries inland and better yet, if you can, have a cooler so that you can bring refrigerated items with you as well-groceries on the island are expensive. Thank you and we will be back!!!

Best of everything...
We loved the location of Buckhorn Lodge! Beautifully situated for great views of the ever changing waters and skies of Orcas Island. Enjoyed kayaking and riding the bikes into the picturesque town of Eastsound. The lodge is cozy and charming, very comfortable for our family of six. We stayed in the house for four days and loved it. There are a surprising amount of sleeping spaces tucked into a cozy space. It did get fairly chilly at night and we had to use the space heaters more than anticipated. We made use of the kayaks, hot tub, beach access, fire pit, and well-equipped kitchen.

Words cannot describe how phenomenal this place truely was
This was a perfect getaway for my sister, mother, and I. The house is gorgeous and well furnished. There is plenty of seating for large groups of people inside and out. The hot tub is to die for! You can spot seals while soaking in the tub! When not in the tub, our favorite spot was the very large porch. You can definitely see wildlife from there and they have a large propane BBQ for entertaining. Location: We could get to East Sound in less than 10 minutes. Travel to the South end of each lobe on Orcas was ~25 minutes. Easy access to the whole island! House: The home is beautifully remodeled on the inside while keeping the historic early 1900's charm (This isn't any old house on the block!). The master bedroom has a window that overlooks the ocean through original 1900's glass window panes. Heating: We were worried about keeping warm with the older windows and vaulted ceilings but they have ample heaters throughout the house that kept us toasty on the colder nights. Amenities: This home is fully loaded. With all of the recreational toys and beach access you don't need to go rent kayaks or bikes on the island. It is well prepared for all activities! Owners: What lovely people! We were greeted with a hand written note and a delicious bottle of wine, a good way to start a vacation! Larry's response rate is impressive and credit is due there. Conclusion: We will be booking this place again. We cant wait to come back!

Great beachfront cabin for family fun
We really enjoyed our stay at Buckhorn lodge and would happily stay there again! When we arrived the cabin was clean and all the amenities were ready for use. The views of the ocean and the wildlife were wonderful, and we had to drag our kids away from the beach to explore other parts of the island. The cabin has a rustic feel with plenty of room for two adults and four kids. A well- stocked kitchen, plenty of sleeping options, and generously provided indoor fun were thoughtful touches. As would be expected with a structure built in 1934, there are some quirks (fussy septic system, chilly during storms, seasonal carpenter ants) but we would stay there again in a heartbeat! Thank you Larry and Michelle for a lovely week!

Beautiful and peaceful property right on the water.
We loved our stay at this home. It has everything you need for a fun and relaxing vacation. Our highlights included kayaking (loved that boats were provided!), relaxing in the chair swing and looking at the gorgeous view, nightly fires in the fire pit, restful times in the hot tub, watching movies every night, and all of the fun things to see and do on the island - especially Moran State Park. We came to this property for our anniversary, so it was just the two of us and we loved it. It is also the perfect set up for a family. We highly recommend.

Best House Rental Ever
We had an amazing five nights at the house, and fully recommend the property. - Location: Very short drive into town. - Views: You're literally on the beach, and have a full length back porch or hot tub to enjoy it from. We spent a ton of time on the porch. - Cleanliness: The cleaning team deserves a ton of credit. It was very thorough. - Amenities: The kayaks worked great! We didn't use the bikes, but I'm sure they would have been a ton of fun. The hot tub was sparkling clean! - Communication: Larry was very responsive and courteous any time I had a question. The HomeAway app has tons of great info. Kudos to Larry for putting the effort into making it so useful. We hope to return in the future!

Stunning place to get away from it all!
We had an amazing cousins reunion at this special spot. The view is magnificent, and there were plenty of activities for a variety of tastes. We really appreciated having the kayaks and bikes on hand as we take our exploring seriously! Larry was very helpful with our planning and making sure we had everything we needed. It was a great place for families with kids of all ages. The kids used the dress up clothes to perform a play for us one night, and there was plenty of yard space for games. We sat around the campfire playing music and singing and really, just had the most amazing time under the endless skies. The cabin sleeps plenty (and a few of us camped outside--we were a larger group and we just had to pay a little extra for the impact on the septic), but be warned--it is cozy! If you are comfortable sharing space with your fellow travelers, this place is great. If you need a lot of alone time/space, it may not be for you. But it was definitely for us, and I would come here every year if possible. We will be back! Definitely.

Amazing
Our family of 5 had a wonderful time at the property. The old lodge is charming, comfortable and clean. We loved being so close to the beach...we could send our boys (ages 7 and 5) down to explore and still keep an eye on them. We had fun exploring in the kayaks and taking hot tubs at night. The beds were comfortable. We were able to cook many meals with the fully stocked kitchen ( I especially appreciated the good knives and large cutting boards). Location was perfect...a quick drive to town. We would have walked/biked to town if we didn't have 3 little kids. We would definitely recommend this place and stay here again.

Restful and restorative escape by the ocean
Our stay at Buckhorn Lodge was everything that we had hoped for, and much, much more. The property is beautifully set on a hill overlooking the ocean. My kids and I spent many happy hours sitting in the swing on the porch just reading, drinking tea, and looking out over the water. The beach is an ever changing landscape that we explored several times a day. The wildlife right around the house kept our eyes open--from the bald eagle who flew right over our heads as we unlocked the kayaks, to the deer who visit at dusk each night, to the hummingbirds who buzz you on the porch. It really is a magical place, and I feel lucky that we found it. The house is very clean, and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need if you want to cook. The owners were incredibly responsive both before and during our stay when we had a few questions. Without a doubt, we would rent this house again.

Fantastic!!!
With the perfect blend of rustic cabin and the comforts of home, my family did not want our time at Buckhorn to end. The value can not be rivaled on the island. The pictures of the interior do not do this historic cabin justice. A must see in person. With the secluded beach and kayaks, our family was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery, without any one in sight. On top of that, the owner was very easy to work with. This will be our permanent vacation spot every year.

Wonderful stay. Great location
We came the last week in June. Weather was perfect. Our entire experience was great. The owners should advertise this is the best location for sunrise. With the sea kayaks it is perfect sunset viewing as well. Loved the coziness of "Jordan's Corner". The sketchiness of cell and Wifi signal made everyone unplug - that is a good thing. Thanks for a great vacation.
