The facility also has a very small pool. Sandi, the owner, is caring, the food is very good, and the tours in the Park with the Park rangers are informative and a great experience. I saw a lot of animals, including elefants, monkeys, antilopes and crocodiles, but I understand that I was lucky and it depends on the season. The Park is huge and outside of the dry season the animals hide more. Getting there takes some time due to the condition of the main streets. But there is major road construction and within a year it probably should be much faster to get there."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Dwangwa?
The best area to stay in Dwangwa is along the lakefront, particularly near the Dwangwa River estuary.

This area is the primary choice for visitors to Dwangwa due to its direct access to Lake Malawi. It's characterised by resorts and lodges spread along the shoreline, offering views of the lake and the nearby Dwangwa Sugar Corporation land. The main road, the M5, runs roughly parallel to the lake, with accommodations typically branching off towards the water.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find the lakefront ideal. Many establishments here offer private beach access, opportunities for boat trips on the lake, and amenities like swimming pools and dining with lake views. It's great for unwinding and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.

Families will also appreciate the lakefront for its recreational opportunities. Children can enjoy swimming in the lake, building sandcastles, or participating in organised water activities.
When is the best time to go to Dwangwa?
The best time to visit Dwangwa is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience warm, sunny days with minimal rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the region. The dry conditions also mean fewer mosquitoes, contributing to a more comfortable stay. This period is particularly good for those looking to enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Malawi, as the waters are calm and clear.

For travellers interested in wildlife, the cooler, drier months of June to August are particularly good. Animals are easier to spot as they gather around water sources, and the vegetation is less dense. This makes for excellent game viewing opportunities in nearby national parks and reserves.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find the dry season great for enjoying the lakeside resorts and tranquil surroundings.
