About this property
Waterfront Cottage with own Beach and Stunning Views Across The Clyde
** Please check the location to be sure there's not a ferry crossing between the cottage and the rest of your plans. The location is in Toward, near Dunoon, on the Cowal Peninsula. It sometimes shows as Isle of Bute in searches as it's so close, but it is across the water! **
Bihar is an exeptionally bright cottage set in mature gardens running down to its own pink rocky beach on the Firth of Clyde.
It's impossible not to relax with the ever changing stunning view of the tidal waters, the passing Bute ferries, military ships, submarines and summer cruise ships. Many hours can be passed watching the magically calming view.
Entered via the long gravel drive with easy parking for multiple vehicles, Bihar is a charming cottage of maybe 100 years, operating as a holiday cottage for most of these years.
The entrance hall leads on to a ground floor twin bedroom and small double bedroom, both with views across the water, served by the ground floor family bathroom.
There is a large open plan living and dining room with windows to 3 sides and magnificent views across the water to Wemyss bay. In addition to the central heating, there is a wonderful log burner that can really belt out the heat on a winter evening spent slouching on the huge tartan sofa, or playing the tuned Yamaha U1 piano.
The well equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, electric hob, electric fan oven and fridge freezer.
A small laundry room off the kitchen offers a further sink, plus washing machine and tumble drier.
Upstairs is a large bedroom with the best views in the house, a king sized bed and a small en suite shower and WC. There would be plenty of room for a couple of camp beds or similar in this room. Just ask and we can arrange.
Being further down the peninsula from Dunoon, Toward is on flatter ground and on a sunny day (it's often sunnier than the forecast!) offers sunshine all day long and into the evening. The midgies are less fond of Toward too as there are fewer trees and a slight breeze keeps them more under control than in many parts of the West coast.
Despite it's remote location, Bihar can be reached by public transport with the 489 bus meeting the Dunoon CalMac passenger ferry (see West Coast Motors Timetable) many times per day. The bus will stop where you ask the driver to, so you can get door to door service.
The water side garden has two hanging egg chairs to while away the hours, plus several ordinary chairs a couple of recliners and 2 tables. There is also a chiminea and coal BBQ.
There's no shop, pub, supermarket, nightclub or helipad in Toward itself, but 2 miles up the road in Innellan are 2 good pub/restaurants and a Post Office shop. Another 5 miles further up the road to Dunoon where there are pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and a cute cinema.
It's a great place to relax.

We had a very relaxing stay at Bihar, very clean and unlike other properties we have stayed in, all the little bits and pieces you need are in the house, this is the second time we have stayed and hopefully we will stay again. Thank you.
Had a great time again in Bihar. The house has everything you need with the highlight being the amazing ever changing view from almost every window. Will definitely be back again. Thank you Patrick!
The accommodation was very spacious, clean, and ideal for a family with a dog. The garden was large and very suitable for children and pets, and ideal for outside activity - play, relaxing and eating. The location was perfect, with beautiful views, close to safe walks, and exploring the shore, as well as being just a 15 minute drive from the town of Dunoon with supermarket, cafes, restaurants, and shops.
Had the best weekend in this beautiful cottage with stunning garden views. This property was the most well equipped we’ve ever stayed in, loads of space and storage and look forward to hopefully returning at some point in the future. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful stay in Toward. The location of the cottage is idyllic, and it was sometimes hard to do anything other than watch the water and the birds and ships passing by. But walking around the shoreline and exploring Dunoon were worth the effort and we found good local places to eateffort.atshoreline arouheadland
Great property and grounds, ideal for touring Argyl and Bute. Host was quick to reply when small issues reported.Well equipped kitchen and utility. Wifi works well enough for teams meeting and should you need to work remotely while away.Seal watching on local beach by Toward school was great, early to late evening.
We enjoyed our stay very much in this beautiful house, a very relaxing experience in a comfortable environment. There is not a lot that hasn't been thought about by Patrick the host, making our stay in this beautiful part of Scotland so pleasurable, we will return. Thank you.
time of yearof year,
The cottage was spotless and well equipped with binoculars, piano, kitchen equipment to bake, roast and barbecue. Good for disabled as ground floor bedroom and toilet facility. We had a great break, with our daughter and dogs, enjoying walks locally.
Lovely week away! Beautiful house in a great location. Stunning views of the Clyde. Had a great time watching submarines and ships sail past. Great walks from the house too and only a short drive from Dunoon for essentials. Would definitely go again.
It was short trip, my family really enjoyed, it was much relaxing, property location is very nice and beautiful view. I would like to go back again in future.
Comfortable, clean and really well appointed, we spent a luxurious week here at this lovely home from home. We saw seals off the lighthouse point, herons, dolphins off the bay in Dunoon and found starfish, sea urchins, cabs and hermit crabs on the shore in front of the house. A totally chilled week.
This visit was all about returning to a well loved area. The cottage was the perfect spot, with good sized comfortable rooms which let in the beautiful outdoors and lots of light. A well stocked kitchen made food preparation easy. Most importantly, the Clyde was there in all its glory.
Great stay for myself, daughter and partner and grandchildren. It couldn't have been a better location for all of us, things to do for all ages. The property is located across the Clyde from Grenock, check your options for the ferries, it pays to purchase tickets before you board. Also the property is now painted grey not white as in the photos, it threw us a little when looking for the property. Nothing though to stop us completely enjoying our stay at the property.
Our 4th visit to bihar and it has never disappointed, the perfect place to get away from it all and take in the stunning view, our dog loved the huge gardens and also the water, its his disneyland! We'll definitely be back
Beautiful part of the country. Amazing views over Firth of Clyde and beyond the Holy Loch with the Kyles of Bute in the opposite direction. Fantastic spacious cottage with everything you could need and stunning views from the lounge and upstairs master bedroom. The cottage has a lovely feel to it with large gardens front and back with access to the pebble shoreline. Just love the area around Dunoon. Patrick is also a great host.
We stayed for 6 nights, with family and 2 labs. The house is warm, cosy well equipped. The view from every room at the back of the house is fantastic. The dogs loved the garden which led down to a rocky beach. I enjoyed a cup of tea in the morning watching the ferries passing. The house is in a perfect location to explore Argyll.
Would highly recommend to all.
