Lovely warm and comfortable lodge in an excellent location, all household amenities available and extra little touches that make a difference I.e milk, coffee, kitchen roll etc on arrival. Amazing big secure garden that our dog loved. My only complaint is for some reason our dog wasn’t added on when booking so was charged an extra £60 on arrival, if I’d of known the cost when booking didn’t include the dog I would have probably have looked for somewhere more cost effective.
spacious, peaceful, stylish property in a beautiful rural setting
We really loved the gate lodge - very spacious and comfortable. It has the most beautiful rural views but is also well located close to local towns and villages. We'd thoroughly recommend it.
Had a lovely stay at Scion Lodge. Plenty of space, clean, everything we needed, quiet and great farmland scenery to wake up to. I would highly recommend for those planning hiking in the Mournes or on a Game of Thrones tour. Thank you Esther.
We had a lovely stay, the lodge is lovely and the standard of accommodation was very high. It was a lovely place to return to after a busy day exploring.
The location of the lodge was more remote than expected but we soon got used to the rural location - the roads were narrow but luckily we had access to a good Sat Nav and always found our way about. We managed to see a lot of Northern Ireland and ventured down to Dublin for the day.
The cottage itself was everything we had hoped for … fabulous accommodation, clean, peaceful and well maintained. It was an excellent location for easy access to all parts of the country’s tourist attractions and places of interest.
We would highly recommend this cottage and location as the perfect base.

Peaceful.
Such a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. Great views of the surrounding countryside and when you want the city it’s only a 30 minute drive into Belfast.
Esther was an excellent host, she has a wonderful property that is very well maintained, it is situated in a quiet area with local amenities very close, a very good stay. One of our favourite cottages
If someone is looking to stay in northern Ireland, I would highly recommend this place. Esther, our host has created an absolutely wonderful home-away-from-home. The surrounding area is stunning. The Halfway House restaurant is a short distance away, the food and the service there is also five star. When we return this is where we will stay.
We used this comfortable, well appointed, gate house as our home base for our tour of Northern Ireland. It was absolutely perfect and even had a dryer, making it possible for us to refresh for the second week of our journey.
The views were outstanding, the local villages had wonderful restaurants, grocery’s and quaint Irish pubs.
If you choose to stay here you will not regret it; I promise.
A really comfortable cottage of character in a peaceful location, with nice outlook over surrounding countryside. Our host Esther went out of her way to help us after we suffered a seroius health problem during our stay.

Very comfortable house
This house has a lovely kitchen and beautiful Irish art throughout. The bedrooms and bathrooms are warm and comfortable however it is not perfectly clean. The linens are clean but the other surfaces and floors leave quite a bit to be desired. However we would be happy to rebook it as it is well appointed and very cozy. Thank you for the extra detail of tape so we could wrap some presents.
We enjoyed our stay at Scion Lodge. Location was peaceful with beautiful views of the countryside.
Ester was friendly and arrival process was easy. Only criticism is that we found the kitchen a little lacking in cooking utensils ( baking trays etc). Otherwise accommodation was very roomy and well equipped.
Scion Lodge was a perfect location for a short break. In fact Scion Lodge exceeded our expectations. The house is very well presented and is tuacked away off a quiet leafy country lane. It was a lovely quiet location. There was really nothing more that we could ask for. Esther, the property owner, popped up one morning to introduce herself as well and pass on some good advice re local attractions etc. Also when we arrived at the property Esther had already left some food supplies in the kitchen for us which was a welcome and very nice touch indeed. The house was very clean and extremely well presented. It was perfect for us as a couple but could easlily cater for 4 people. The wifi connection was also very good. There is a picnic table outside as well which we availed off for breakfast. All in all it was a superb house and we are definitely considering a return visit for a longer period.
Met all of our expectations from the online description and the country location of the property was great - lovely and quiet but near main roads with good access to the areas that we wished to visit. Excellent information provided.
The gate lodge is a lovely property with everything you need to enjoy your visit to this part of County Down.
Check in and check out was very straightforward and Esther was on hand if needed.
We couldn’t recommend this property highly enough and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially the peat fuelled fire in the lounge.
