You’re looking for a thatched-roof holiday home on a lakeside property near the Elbe island of Krautsand, close to a sandy beach (3 km) on the Elbe, and you’d like to experience cruise ships up close. The Elbe island is connected to the mainland by two bridges. Starting in 1620, the first proper houses were built on Krautsand, constructed on earthen mounds (wurten) for protection against the Elbe’s storm surges. It wasn’t until 1976 that Krautsand was enclosed by dikes. Typical features of Krautsand include the houses on the mounds, the thatched-roof houses, the fruit orchards, the pastures, the small nature reserves
, the harbours, the small seafarers’ church dedicated to the Good Shepherd, and the beautiful sandy beach, which, together with the adjacent mudflats, stretches for about 7 km. Between the dike and the beach, trees and
willows offer shelter from the wind, rain, and sun. Here you can relax on the magnificent sandy beach, watch ships large and small in the nearby shipping channel, and safely explore the mudflats at low tide—all without having to pay a visitor’s tax. You can explore Krautsand on 20 km of biking and hiking trails. The Hanseatic city of Stade is only about 22 km away.
The holiday home includes a private lakeside lot directly adjacent to the house and a private lot on the Süderelbe with a fishing pier. Two parking spaces and a bike shed are located right next to the house.

If you are unable to use the steep staircase leading to the living room and the third bedroom for health reasons, we will comfortably set up the dining room as a living room with a TV for you (for up to 2 people). Upon arrival, the beds will be made, and the holiday home will be preheated in cold weather. Due to the steep staircase, the thatched cottage is only partially suitable for guests with limited mobility.
