Do not book this unprofessional hotel
Don't book this one if you have other options. It is a low level B&B, not a hotel. Room is small and not designed for a bedroom, big window is right above your bed, cold air will blow on your head when you are sleep. They give us a very small table for breakfast, I asked them is this table for one person or two? The answer was its for one person but it is for two of you. It is a very bad answer. Also, they only provide one meal for two person, they let us share one meal. I am a history researcher, when to many countries, never seen such bad service. Do not book this hotel if you have any other options. Thanks for reading.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Smithfield Hotel. Lovely room, comfy bed, and great shower. Excellent breakasts and restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful!

From the minute we were greeted at check in until we left we were so impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The seafood in the restaurant was one of the best meals we had in Scotland. Room was as advertised. Great little spot!

Orkney trip
The hotel is ideally located for exploring Orkney with access to all the main sites. The breakfast ingredients could be a little better quality and I couldn't get a steak for my dinner either night of our stay but these are minor quibbles. Staff were great friendly and helpful.

Great place
Very pretty room with a good view and very comfortable. Breakfast was perfect-great choice, really fresh fruit with Greek yoghurt then well-cooked quality bacon, egg, etc. A really great place.

MOST AMAZING PLACE AND BEST PEOPLE
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We received a warm welcome from all staff in the hotel, cafe, pub and restaurant. The Smithfield arms has it all! Food from breakfast to lunch In the cafe and dinner in the restaurant was impeccably made and presented and tasted delicious. The scones are incredible! The rooms are modern and comfortable. Given tea, coffee, hot chocolate and some amazing biscuits! Plenty of storage for clothing and space to relax in the room. The whole place was incredibly clean and fresh. Located in a great place in the middle of the two main towns in Orkney with the best staff ever! Massive thankyou to ivy, Ingrid and the rest of the amazing staff! We will definitely be returning. Lots of Love - The honeymoon couple :)

This property is located in a convenient location for all the attractions for West Mainland Orkney by car. A car rental or your own would make life easier definitely. The hotel has its own restaurant which offers a variety of dishes and drinks. Right opposite is a Cooperative which opens 7.30-10 pm all 7 days. Definitely recommended.

Excellent location for touring the island sites.
Very good stay at the Smithfield for 5 nights . Excellent food in the restaurant although the service was slow because of staff inexperience and staff shortages. Tip serve some bread and a carafe of water as soon as guests sit down, it keeps them from getting bored waiting for their meal. Overall great place to stay and eat

Superb
Fantastic hotel. Met by lovely lady who showed me to my room. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty to choose from. This is the second time I have stayed here and I will book again when on the island.
