10/10 Excellent
"This hotel was absolutely stunning and spotless. The room was gigantic and had all the amenities (shower caps, sewing and vanity kits, robes and slippers, etc.), and the bed was unbelievably comfortable. It was inside the Citadel, right in the heart of everything. The food and service at the restaurant were so good that we ate three meals in a row there. I would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat and stay there again."

8/10 Good
"First the good: Turtles in the courtyard fountain! I noticed they were friendly to humans, so I asked at the front desk and was given a small bowl of food to offer the turtles. As an animal lover, this was truly the highlight of my stay here. I loved it when they took food directly from my hand! The balconies off the rooms are very small but are also quaint and felt intimate. Clean bedding, responsive staff. Very walkable to points of interest. When we pulled in the first night, there was not a single parking spot left. The gentleman at the front desk came outside to assist us with where to put our car, which was very much appreciated since this was our first time in Romania. Breakfast was a positive experience as well. The not-so-good: On our first full day, our room flooded due to plumbing. Staff quickly moved us to another room. Our room was not down a hallway, but the hallways I saw were carpeted in what had to have been very old carpet, and did not look very sanitary. The common areas were clean, but it seems the hotel needs to do some maintenance/upgrades. A smoking area right at a point where, when the door opens, the smoke wafts inside, was not appealing at all."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Doștat?
The best area to stay in Doștat, Alba County, Romania, is within the main village itself, particularly around the central square and the main road, Strada Principală.This area is the heart of Doștat, providing direct access to the local community and its simple amenities. You'll find the village church, a few small shops, and local guesthouses clustered here. The layout is typical of a rural Transylvanian village, with houses lining the main road and smaller lanes branching off.For travellers looking for a peaceful escape into rural life, the village centre is ideal. It offers a genuine experience of Romanian village culture, with opportunities to enjoy the quiet pace of life, traditional architecture, and the surrounding natural beauty. It's a superb spot for those who appreciate simplicity and a break from city noise.Couples seeking a tranquil retreat will find the village centre particularly appealing. The slower pace allows for relaxing walks through the countryside, enjoying local produce, and experiencing the hospitality of the guesthouses.
When is the best time to go to Doștat?
The best time to visit Doștat is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.During late spring, the countryside is lush and green, and the temperatures are comfortably mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This period is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking or exploring the local villages before the peak summer heat arrives. It's also when the wildflowers are in bloom, adding to the scenic beauty.Early autumn offers similar comfortable temperatures, usually between 10°C and 20°C, with the added bonus of autumn foliage. The vineyards are often active with grape harvesting, and the air is crisp, making it superb for leisurely walks and experiencing the local culture without the summer rush. Many local festivals celebrating the harvest also take place during this time. While summer (July and August) is popular, it can be quite warm, with temperatures sometimes exceeding 30°C, and there are more tourists.
