Enjoy the lovely setting of this romantic off the grid tree house designed to connect you to the forest and with each other. Its both deeply relaxing and re-engergising.
The space
A magical place to stay. Sleep with the french doors to the forest wide open. Breathe the crisp forest air. Listen to the Kiwi call to each other while being tucked up in the cozy bed with hot water bottles and your lover. The Tree Hut is designed to connect you to the forest, and to each other.
The Tree Hut has been built using a zero waste philosophy recycled from a Kauri villa. The bathroom is open to the forest and the shower is an experience you will never forget.
A BOSCH califont delivers steaming hot water through a vintage copper shower, and to a vintage cast iron bath in the forest.
The Hut is off the grid and has solar powered lights. During winter this can mean being mindful of the amount of power. The outdoor kitchen as a 4 burner gas hob, a Weber BBQ, and a chilly bin to keep food cold.
The cozy bed has luxury 100% linen bedding.
Put your feet on the vintage Persian rug, open the doors wide, be transported to a place where magic carpet rides in the canopy of the forest become real.
Please bring no candles as the hut is made from precious ancient Kauri timber (candles supplied are in protective lanterns)
An outdoor fire is available during times without fire bans in place. Firewood is $15 per nights supply, please let us know if you would like some. We have our firewood delivered by Greenways Trust who provide residential service and support for people with intellectual disabilities and we love to help support what they do.
Can be booked in conjunction with any of our 6 retreats.
A world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life, it's a place that bestows a sense of clarity. A place where, rather than rushing through the hours of the day, you're soaking in every moment for all it's worth.

Guest access
We do have other retreats on the property so please respect others privacy. If you would like to explore please check to see if we have other guests staying first.
We are proudly an inclusive stay and all guests of any background or community are welcome here into a safe space.
Please review our Health and Safety manual under the section 'House Manual'.
Other things to note
Please don’t use candles because of the fire hazard. The emergency services are at least 40 minutes away.
The tree house has a solar powered lighting system. You may like to bring a power bank to charge devices or we can charge them for you at the main house.
We are 40min from the nearest supermarket - Countdown in Dargaville so we encourage you to stock up well with supplies.
The last few km of your journey is gravel road.
We have a small shop 'Wild Supplies' at the main house. It has little treasures we love and a few essential food supplies such as pasta, pasta sauce, crackers. Open on request.
We operate three sites on Wild Forest Estate. If you would like to explore the property please ask us first in order to respect the privacy of the other guests (some of them may be in their outdoor bath).
Because our philosophy is centered around permaculture and rewilding, we ask that you take your non-compostable rubbish with you (otherwise it is transported to Dargaville where it is transferred and taken to Whangarei to be placed in a land fill - not cool).
We are in the process of ‘Rewilding’ the property, leaving nature to repair itself and find its own balance with as little human intervention as possible.
If this is something that interests you I can recommend the documentary ‘Fools and Dreamers’ on Vimeo by Happen Films about a 30yr long NZ rewilding project by botanist Hugh Wilson.
