Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Don Khon?
The best area to stay in Don Khon is in the main village, located on the northern side of the island, near the bridge connecting to Don Det.

This area is the heart of the island's activity, with guesthouses, restaurants, and shops lining the main dirt track that runs parallel to the Mekong River. You'll find easy access to bicycle rentals and boat trips, and it's a short walk or cycle to the Li Phi Waterfalls.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find this area particularly appealing. The pace of life is slow, with plenty of riverside eateries offering sunset views. You can enjoy quiet evenings, explore the island's natural beauty by bike, and easily access boat tours to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins.

For those who prefer a more secluded experience, there are a few guesthouses scattered along the western side of the island. These offer a more private setting, often with direct river views, but are a bit further from the main village's amenities.
When is the best time to go to Don Khon?
The best time to visit Don Khon is during the dry season, which runs from October to April.

During these months, the weather is generally sunny with comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the island and its surroundings. The river levels are also lower, which can make some of the waterfalls, such as Tad Khon Pa Soi, more accessible and impressive.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities like cycling or walking, this period offers the most pleasant conditions without the humidity and heavier rainfall of the wet season.
