Starting very pleasantly with checkin after 5 and after a relaxing cocktail the power dropped out and we’re left dark in our room. Had to use phone light to get down stairs as no contact from staff after about 10 minutes. Told the power is out from 3 hrs and kitchen now close. As only there for one night and there for dinner we advised we did not wish to stay. A call was made to owner, does not meet cancellation policy and why “can’t we just sit quietly for 2 hrs (down from 3 now) and wait.” The tone and attitude was offensive. Barman did not want to provide owner contacts as they had left for the day. Not impressed that owner left clients in dark rooms, no call out from staff to see if others ok. 30 mins later a message comes through. Power comes on after 30mins as we were leaving. So we stay. Go to fulfill our dinner reservation. Sorry, kitchen now closed for the night. We go to the Royal Hotel! Great food and wonderful service from all!
Next morning….fan in bathroom screeching and not sounding in good shape, hot and cold taps plumbed backwards (could easily scald someone)..by now our planned dinner and over night at what was always to us an institution was so disappointing. Most disappointing was the attitude of staff. No feedback was actively sought as we checked out, so we provided it and got a ……oh, well, sorry about that type palm off. Will continue to visit Daylesford. Would love to see them turn this around as it so reflects on the town.
