You can't find a better location - great house, on the sound and steps away from the beach. The heated pool was a hit and plenty of room. There was some wear and tear that could be addressed, but overall recommend!
Our group of 6 enjoyed our stay. The house is in a great location between both the bay and gulf. Instructions for checkin and checkout were clear and easy to follow. Home is decorated beautifully and has a nice selection of seating both inside and out.
My family loved our stay. The house was beautiful and spacious for my husband and I and our teenagers! We loved having the dock access on the bay and same distance to walk across the street to the beach. My husband caught a stingray, we got crabs in the crab traps, and fish! Lots of wonderful memories, we will be back!
Stayed here with my husband, teen daughter, adult daughter, son in law, 6 year old grandson and 3 fur babies. Great location for fishing or swimming in the bay, easy access to a quiet side road for dog walking and the gulf is just right across the road! Pool was clean, clear, private and warm!
The new renovations and updates at Whale Tales are great! The property is very clean and family friendly. The outdoor shower was wonderful and the full size ice machine in the laundry room was a great surprise. We had a minor issue with the oven and the property owner was extremely responsive to get someone out to take a look and fix it. We would absolutely stay here again!
The house is absolutely perfect. The owner is very responsive. We has an issue with the oven and he had it fixed in two hours! Having the commercial ice maker is a great touch. We never had to buy ice for our coolers. The pool is great for evening swims or needing a break from the beach. We fished every night off the dock and it also has the best view for sunsets! Mosquitoes can be a little bad, so make sure you don't forget the repellent. We'll definitely be back!
Place was clean and spacious. Great views from the back porch of the bay. Upstairs Master Suite is huge and it's private, and also has it's own deck which had great views. Kitchen and pantry were big. We were there in Oct and pool was too cold to use, even though the VRBO listing touts that it has a pool. Should be a caveat that pool is too cold to swim in. Very disappointing for the kids. The private dock is also not great. It is completely covered in seagull droppings and one of the piers has slipped (or broke) which made the dock quite slanted and a bit precarious for about 20 feet to walk on. And finally, the pots and pans are so scratched and beat up - hard to understand why they would not be replaced. VRBO has it rated "Exceptional". I disagree. It's OK.
Incredibly beautiful! No words to describe the view. Perfect sized pool. Plenty of comfortable outdoor seating. Restaurant grade ice maker. Huge fully stocked kitchen. Will definitely stay again.

First of all the keys where NOT where we were told they would be. We drove 14 hours to a beach house with no access tried to call VRBO was on hold on phone for
The home is beautiful, spacious and well kept. The pool provided hours of relaxation. It was clean and great temperature. The guys thoroughly enjoyed catching Big Reds and their bait off the dock. The solar powered dock light allowed them to fish at the dock until all hours of the night. We made great memories!
This property was a perfect retreat for me and my family! We have smaller children and having the calmer bay side available was perfect for them plus them being able to explore the gulf just across the street! The property was clean and the owners were easy to communicate with!
Beautiful house with easy access to the Gulf waters. Dock off back of house was great for swimming and also fishing. We caught a lot fish and the kids had a ball. Pool off side of house is perfect and well maintained. We went to the Gulf beach off front of house which is a short walk away and quiet and nice. Beautiful views of sunset at night. Would recommend and stay again at this house on Dauphin island.
Wonderful home - precisely as advertised! AC worked AMAZING! Caught quite a few fish off the dock, great access to the beach and good walking trails. Pool was an added bonus given the location. The property was very conducive for our chocolate lab who loved the trip as well! Ice machine worked so well we had to cut it off to avoid an overflow. Overall, outstanding visit!!!
We had an amazing stay. The house is well appointed, but the view and the beach and pier are the star! Amazing sunsets and we had so much fun fishing. The island has a nice slow pace and we were able to really enjoy time with family. Highly recommended!
One of the best rental homes we’ve ever stayed in! We hit up the Gulf side a few times which was right across the street. We spent most of our week on the Sound side on the dock fishing, on the shore, and by the pool. Kitchen is well stocked and appointed with ample plates, cups, pots/pans, bowls, etc, especially with Tony chachere's seasoning (a Louisiana staple). Grocery store on the island was fine. We went to Greer’s off the island once and that got us thru. We ordered food to-go most nights from local restaurants, but you need to be prepared to place your to go order early and in-person bc the restaurants get busy fast and simply can’t take to go orders and/or the phones get busy. Skinners seafood was our go to, plus Islanders, pirates pizza, and pirates bar and grill are all great. We also cooked up flounder we caught off the dock. For reference, we stayed at this property at the end of July; our party included myself and husband (we’re both 40), our 2 kids (ages 11 and 13), our 6 year old chocolate lab, and my father-in-law (in his 60s); none of us have mobility issues. The boardwalk out to the dock didn’t have a railing, which was fine for us but could be an issue for smaller children/elderly.If you are a low maintenance vacationer who likes gorgeous sunsets in a slightly off the grid setting, this is the place for you. We will be back next year! Also, the commercial grade ice maker has me spoiled for life!
ProCoffee and k cup machineHeated pool as it was only 70- kids were in at 7:30 am! Glass cookwear and stainless spatulaIce makerHuge lot with lots of privacyPlenty of towels for inside and beach3 bathrooms, one with private toilet on main floor with a private shower tooUpgraded indoor finishes(flooring, counters) and comfortable couchesLoungers and chairs outside and in screened in porch was a perk to store our paddle boards and eatOcean views on both sides of house and deckWe drove but island has glof cart rentalsPrivate beach with private dockBooks, puzzles and games- read one book on bench! Beach chairs were there and so was a basketball even though we brought our own we didn’t have to unpack and repackConCold shower- master lacks water pressureSunrise and set are not on your ocean view but we love our vacations here regardless ice maker was loudBlinds in master are broken- hung up a towelScreen door to pool was broken at the top and would slam shut(windy) and get stuckNo crockpot Dock was broken- but the crew was there to rebuild - good for next time! Ha Overall this house was amazing and I would love to bring friends back next time. We love the “country living” on the beach vibe we get and this property was just what we needed to rest and digest!
There are a few things that could be updated or fixed and the house could really use a deep clean but none of that took away from our overall enjoyment of the trip. It was a wonderful property, perfect for our kids and dogs, and we will definitely be back!
We chose this VRBO for its location, and that it had 4 BR/3BA for our family. It also has a dock (not all homes have this) that we could use, with a ladder to swim in the bay, well-lighted, and a small beach area for my 82 yr old mother to sit and enjoy as well.
The porch furniture/grill has a lot of beach-weather wear and tear, but the owners have started replacing it a bit at a time (there were some brand new chairs on the outside porch to watch sunsets/bay/etc.)
They also had a canoe that we were able to use on the bay, which was nice. This saved us from having to rent one.
A few of the kids fished off of the dock, and there is access to water to rinse off/clean fish, etc. VERY nice plus is you like to fish! There is also a sink/cleaning area under the house (garage area) for fish-cleaning, as well as a shower.
There is a well-stocked area of beach towels (towels that others have left) for you to use while there. We brought our own, but it was nice to have a few extra at our disposal.
Overall, it was a nice rental, and our family thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. We love Dauphin Island and will be back!
The property was well maintained and well represented on VRBO. Our family enjoyed having access to the beach, the sound and fishing on the dock. Great experience and we will rent again.

Our Get Away Weekend
Needs to be posted that you need a 4WD vehicle to get up to the house. Sand was so high in the driveway that every vehicle got stuck and it looked as if others had used wood to try and get out from being stuck before us. The outdoor furniture was highly used and outdated.
This is a great vacation home. We enjoyed every minute in Dauphin Island. If you are going with your dog, stay on the bay side. We have stayed on both sides and our dog was able to swim and walk on this side more than the gulf side. Tropical Storm Fred went by us to the east while we were vacationing. The gulf side surf was wild and there were rip tides. We floated in the water and swam in calm waters.
The common area - living room, dining and kitchen - was huge. Each of our adult children had their own rooms except my daughter who stayed on the living area side of the upstairs master which is also huge. The jacuzzi bathtub upstairs is 2 people sized - it’s so big. The outdoor decking with the rocking chairs and the screen porched area are so nice. Having water spigots at 3 spots outside was great for feet and beach stuff rinsing. Love the dock and the sound side beach! It is private. I could have gone there everyday and never even went to the Gulf side. It’s wild that the house is dead center between the 2 so you have it all! We cooked 5 nights and found all we needed in the kitchen for that. The laundry being right off the kitchen is a great spot. The house is so soundproof. I don’t know if that’s due to hurricane codes or what, but you didn’t hear anything if the door was closed. We loved our stay in your home and Dauphin Island was wonderful. 1st time on the island and area. It was wonderful and I’d love to get back another year! Thanks!!
