About this property
Coastal Escape – Dauphin Island Condos Near the Beach - Unit 1
Summary: Stunning newly renovated condos nestled near the sand dunes, offering the perfect coastal retreat. Just steps away from Pirate’s, the island’s top-rated restaurant, and a short drive to the best beaches Dauphin Island has to offer. Come relax and enjoy our beautiful home by the sea!
The Space: This property features four units, and this one is located downstairs. Each unit offers a private seating area with a grill, perfect for outdoor relaxation while enjoying stunning sand dune views. The nearest public beach access is just half a mile away, making it easy to enjoy the sun and surf!
Guest Access: This ground-floor unit is part of a four-unit complex and features a private patio where you can relax and take in the serene views of the sand dunes.
The Neighborhood: The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is just down the road. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just a short drive away. The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.
The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach.
With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.
Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Gulf.
We hope you enjoy your stay and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!
Getting Around: Because of the ideal location of this property, guests can take a quick drive or easily bike or walk to nearby attractions and restaurants. Although there is no public transportation, there are miles of walking and biking trails around the island that makes getting around a breeze. Bikes and golf carts are available to rent on the island! The Dauphin Island website is a great resources to stay up to date with events on Dauphin Island.
Other Things to Note: The laundry facilities are located in a separate building behind the house, featuring four full-size washers and dryers for your convenience. This home sits at the base of the sand dunes, about one mile from the nearest beach access. Pet-friendly with a $100 fee per dog, per stay (75lb max). Sorry, no cats! Dogs who are categorized as "dangerous" or "aggressive" according the ASPCA are not allowed. Please let us know if you're bringing more than one furry friend so we can add the appropriate pet fee, as the Airbnb website does not have a spot for us to add the fee for a second dog . It was very clean and great location on the island. I was impressed with how well stocked it was with anything you may need. The beaches towels were a huge
The condo was lovely, clean and accommodating. I slept like a baby while I was there. Overall rating of 5 stars. I plan on coming back next year. Thank you!

We had a lovely time in a quaint apartment off a quiet street that was still walking distance to a small beach. If you want to go fishing, the beach next to Pirate's Bar and Grill is an excellent location. They were jumping the entire time we sat in quiet tranquility! We also greatly appreciated a place we could stay with our dogs. Thank you Amber!
When we first booked the stay, the owners were very responsive. I sent the pics to my kids and they were excited. It did not disappoint, great location between all the beaches and restaurants. Pics were exactly how it looked also. Very peaceful and quaint area. We definitely look forward to seeing if we will be able to stay there again.

Overall, it was a very comfortable space to be in to enjoy the island. Loved the laundry facility and the kitchen. Beds were very comfortable. After a bit of a rocky start, in which karin promptly and patiently attended to, the rest of the visit was smooth sailing.
Clean and comfortable. Tv hard to use, slow drain in bathroom sink, loud running A/C, were all adapted to and overcome. VRBO was excellent to deal with and very cordial. I would deal with again. Thanks for an excellent stay. It’s certainly appreciated.
The location is great for walks and beaches. The condo was very nice and the beds were very comfortable. A little concerning was the deadbolt on the back door did not work. Loved the washer/dryer setup. Also, a lot of floor noise from the upper unit and stairway. But would definitely return.
Awesome, cute condo. No stairs (except to the laundry room, 4 pairs of washers and dryers, I wondered when I read the listing) and a hallway in between one and two which worked out great for us (my cousin’s family stayed in #2). The condo was laid out excellent for our purposes and felt a lot bigger than it was! My three sons loved the bunks and rotated out so everyone got a night on top. It was a short drive to the three public beaches and we tried them all, we recommend the quiet east end cove for little kids swimming. The upstairs was loud (little kids running) but as parents we didn’t mind, if it bothers you then you might want to book the upper units. Quiet street and everything was clean as a whistle. Would definitely come back!
It is just as the booking lists and the pictures! I was a bit confused on the washer/dryer until I realized they are in the back in a separate building. Place is clean and was perfect for the 3 of us, including small dog! Only thing that was aggravating, was the bathroom sink was stopping up and the beds only had a thin quilted cover, no flat sheet, and ours had dog hairs on fitted sheet. Of course that is to be expected with dogs, I suppose. The master bed sets up high, as I'm short, but was comfortable. It was cold this past week there! But the beaches are pretty. We enjoyed the East End beach, but the West End had more fishermen there. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and want to come back when it gets warmer!
My family stayed here over spring break (late March). Great price, quiet location and within walking distance (5 min) from a public park, basketball court, and skate park. Took my 5, 7, and 9 year olds there multiple mornings when we took our dog on a walk.
Property was exactly as listed. I noticed ice cube trays were added after another review recommended. I would recommend leaving more than one coffee filter. We bought a pack and left for future guests. The filters are pennies on the dollar. I would also recommend looking at the deadbolt to the inner door (also mentioned in an earlier review) as well as the latch to the kids room. I had to take off the strike plate in order to get the door to stay shut because the knob wasn’t aligned. A big deal for parents wanting to stay up after their kids go to sleep and need the door closed to keep the bunk room dark.
King bed is soft and bunk beds comfortable. Early reviews mentioned a slow draining bathroom sink, that must have been fixed because we had zero issues. The living room and master bedroom tvs were large Roku tvs with multiple apps signed into by former guests. We watched several family movies on HBO thanks to former logins. Remember to logout when you leave.
For the price point we feel like we struck gold. We sampled all 3 public beaches, paying $5 daily parking lot rates. We easily saved $100s by choosing this location rather than beachfront for 6 nights.
Would definitely rent again on future visits.
