Absolutely brilliant stay! 2 adults and a teen were incredibly comfortable. Very quick bus into Bath, the stop is very close to the Lorne House. Our host was attentive to our every need. We were personally welcomed at our late arrival time and made to feel at home. Sparkling clean in every room with luxury toiletries. Very comfortable beds and a quiet peaceful location. The town of Box is very charming. Several restaurants and a convenience store within walking distance. Excellent breakfast with a very good menu, fresh fruit, and proper English tea. We were happy, rested, and relaxed. Fun fact, this was the childhood home of Wilbert Awdry the creator of the the Thomas Train stories. We wished we could have stayed several more nights.

Room was quirky, as was the Manor House. No tv in the bedroom, no shower, or tea/ coffee facilities. Very small double bed. We were told if we wanted a drink we could ask but it would be served downstairs. Reception was closed between 9pm-8am. Poor Choice of wine by the glass. First choice not available. Outside was definitely in need of investment and general taking care of. Grounds were overgrown and quite shabby. Outside the restaurant was under fig trees which was very overgrown. We booked this because of the chef reputation but food was not amazing. It lacked imagination and quality. Four choices of starter but three were pate type! Asked for Koffmann pommes frites but I got regular skinny fries which were incredibly salty. Breakfast was included but cooked breakfast was extra with lots of dishes at extra cost. Overall it lacks a lot, especially investment. Staff were unhelpful. Reception area looked unfinished in a dark room, with empty bookcases and pictures on the floor. Good to experience but won’t be back! It could be amazing, but it wasn’t. Shame!
