About this property
Shackleford Creek Mountain House a unique home ready for your Alaskan adventure
The Shackleford Creek Mountain House is located approximately 102 miles or 2 hours south of Anchorage at the head waters of the Upper Kenai River. We are located on Snug Harbor Road in the shadow of Mt. Cecil Rhodes (4400 feet/1341 meters). We are surrounded by Kenai Borough and Chugach National Forest land comprising of spruce, birch, alder willow and aspen. The setting is quiet and private.
There are two good size bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen sized sleigh bed with large bay windows that provide views of the surrounding mountains and woods. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed with a twin bunk bed. The loft is open with exposed wood beams and many large bay windows that provide commanding views of Mt Cecil Rhodes and surrounding woods. The feel is that of an enclosed tree house. The loft contains one queen four poster bed, two twin beds as well as a fold out double sized futon couch. The bathroom has a shower and claw-foot bathtub looking out at the surrounding forest.
The kitchen is fully outfitted with pots, pans, dishes, a full sized refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, bar seating for five along with a dining table.
A wood stove provides cozy heat and the outdoor 5-person hot-tub is perfect for relaxing after a hard day playing. The deck faces south, so when the sun is out the deck receives lots of sun, has a picnic table and gas grill. The separate gear shed is set up for storing your fishing gear and also has a chest freezer for storing your catch of the day.
It is a special place where we join family and friends to explore the mountains, lakes, rivers and trails that are located in and around Cooper Landing. We are located a mile from the town center where multiple fish and river guides base their operations. Access to the world renown Kenai River for salmon and trout fishing is minutes away. For those seeking to hike and mountain bike the trail heads are all within minutes of the house. The communities of Seward, Kenai and Homer are an easy drive from Cooper Landing and offer a broad spectrum of activities from Glacier viewing to Whale watching to Halibut fishing and more.
The design of the house is open and well suited for couples and families with kids older than 3 looking to explore the wonders of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula as well as kick back and enjoy the peace and solitude that is such a part of life here in Cooper Landing. We look forward to helping you share in the beauty of this place we call home.

The house was perfect! It had everything we needed and more to make our stay comfortable. We loved the hot tub (especially after a dip in the creek), the fireplace, the games, the loft, the shower and kitchen. After hiking and rafting
What a perfect spot to land after exploring the Kenai peninsula ! House was spacious and very well equipped! The loft area was perfect for my son to have his own space. Easy drive to Seward, Whittier, and Soldotna. Host was extremely helpful!!!
House was a perfect basecamp to explore all the Kenai Peninsula has to offer. Just a few minutes from fishing and hiking near Cooper Landing and only an hour from Seward. House was clean, spacious, and had all the amenities you’d want. Owner communication was great. 10/10.
Our family loved our stay at Shackleford Creek! The kids were so excited to have the loft area all to themselves - toys and movies and planty ofnspace to spread out. The adults in our party loved the serene setting, all the windows, and the hot tub! It was a wonderfully relaxing place to end our 2 week travels around Alaska.
The Shackleford House was more than we could have imagined. It was located on a quiet street, and was unequivocally peaceful with the sound of a creek running near by. The communication was fantastic, and the home very well appointed. Thank you for a very peaceful stay!

Perfect start to our Alaska Adventure!!
The house was perfect and location was ideal for our stay in the Kenai Peninsula. Waking up to mountain views every day was amazing! It was an easy drive to Seward for activities (if you have a chance to do the Seward Helicopter flightseeing/dog sled tour do it! It was a family favorite!). We also did a fishing trip down the Kenai River that was fun and the scenery was gorgeous! For dinner try the Kingfisher Roadhouse, the Caribou Stroganoff was delicious!! We would definitely recommend a stay at The Shackleford House!
Everything about the property and our stay was even better than expected. Clean, comfortable, well appointed, well located, friendly hosts. Lots of books, games, movies for evenings or a rainy day indoors. Highly recommend. Would definitely stay here again.
Very conveniently located, impeccably clean, washer, dryer and outdoor jacuzzi make it even more attractive. Additional freezer for your fish in the shed. Kid loved the loft!
We had the most amazing stay...the communication with the home owners before our trip was great, the location was perfect and the home had everything and then some for an incredible stay! We would definitely recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shackleford Creek Mountain House. The location is peaceful, yet conveniently close enough to hiking and fishing. The drive to Seward for the National Park is an easy and beautiful one. The house itself is comfortable and very clean. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are oh-so-comfy. Our 11 year old grandson especially enjoyed having the loft and tv to himself. Both the host, Tim, and the concierge, Stefanie, are responsive and friendly. If we return to the Kenai Peninsula, we will definitely book this home again.
My wife and I spent our 25th anniversary in Alaska. I wanted to plan something unique and special and Cooper Landing did not disappoint. Not only was the location ideal to see everything (Seward, Homer, Whittier) the house was the perfect retreat after long days of exploring. Unwinding in the hot tub, relaxing in the loft listening to nature, or eating breakfast looking at the magnificent mountains, this home had everything we could possibly want. And corresponding with the owners was a breeze - they were so timely and provided us with great information about the area. All around a joy.
Beautiful house, we loved the hot tub, very well appointed and comfortable stay. We had a great time. Nearby access to hikes, Skilak wildlife recreation area, and of course Kenai River. We will likely stay again!
We had a great girls trip to this beautiful property. The cabin is so idyllic and beautifully set up - we were able to cook some great meals, explore the many trails in the area, paddle board on the lake and wind down in the hot tub. We can’t wait for a return visit!
We enjoyed our stay, made meals in the large kitchen, soothed our tired muscles in the hot tub and warmed our bones by the fire in the wood stove.
We would like to come again
Excellent condition and well equipped. We enjoyed the hot tub and propane grill. Talked to owner by text but did not have any occasion to contact property manager.
