About this property

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Private Retreat Bungalow-One Level, 2 blocks from Beach w/Porch & Deck

Nestled along a private street you'll love this colorful and spacious beach bungalow. Along the tree-lined family-friendly Jackson Street, this is one of several new custom-built Beach Bungalows. Typical of the beach homes found in this former colonial gambling area, this is a wide-porch bungalow-style home perfect for relaxing near the Potomac Beach shore. But rather than being an older home, this home is new and filled with contemporary, fun, and modern furnishings. The mattresses are new: Queen Serta Sleep True Alverson II Firm, Queen Serta Sleep True Alverson II Firm with Memory Foam topper, and King Posturepedic 13" Firm Euro Top. A bright yellow door welcomes our guests to one-level living just a few blocks from all the Colonial Beach action. If you are coming for the beach, it's a good idea to rent a golf cart. Colonial Beach was the first city in Virginia to allow golf carts on public roads. The charm of this adorable tiny historic town lies in its sandy beaches, gentle palm trees, affordability, cute bungalow homes, and small town restaurants and shops. The beauty of this home is its proximity to the shore while far enough away to allow you to enjoy easier parking and a calming vibe. The bright yellow front door opens to a HUGE living room with 5, yes FIVE, oversized Italian white leather chairs. There's a rolling white leather ottoman, a small silk Persian carpet, and glass tables to hold your drinks as you relax before dinner. The Roku Smart Television is lets you enjoy all your personal apps on the TV such as Netflix or Amazon Prime TV. Roku Television and HBO is FREE! Alongside this generous contemporary living area is a giant café area: indoor dining for 10 on a sleek modern dining table and a white quartz island bar or outdoor seating for 8 at two generous glass outdoor dining tables. There's seating for everyone to sit together during meal times, or spread out indoors and out. This home is for guests only. No non-paying guests are allowed in or on the property. The kitchen is well-appointed, showcasing custom navy-blue cabinetry with soft-close doors and pull-out shelves. All the stainless-steel appliances are new including the big sink, side-by-side refrigerator with ice and filtered water thru the door, and the matching smooth-top electric range with built-in microwave over top. The GIANT oversized kitchen island in bright white quartz will catch your eye and is the gathering spot for everyone staying in the house. Seafood buffets or drink bars serve up beautifully in this generous space. The island bar and coordinated seating makes this space modern, useful, and a great gathering space each day. Time for bed? You'll sink into a giant king-size bed which was custom-made in Turkey with matching marble inset nightstands and a long bed bench. The Primary Bedroom is so large that it also holds a twin trundle bed. Each twin trundle bed has a cool gel mattress and is a great place for kids or even extra adults. You'll sleep as long as you like thanks to the black-out curtains and darkening blinds on both master bedroom windows. The primary ensuite bathroom is spacious with a double vanity and walk-in shower. Towels, washcloths, and hand-soap are all ready and waiting for you. In addition to the Primary Bedroom, you'll find 2 mix-and-match queen bedrooms across the hall. Joined by a Jack-and-Jill double-vanity bathroom, these two bedrooms are bright and spacious. Both bedrooms feature a desk and chair, double nightstands, double lamps, and room-darkening blinds and curtains as well. You'll know you've found the laundry room when you are walking toward the beach: a giant beach mural was custom-created for the laundry room with it's full-size auto-sensing washer and dryer. You'll pass the cute Powder Room off the laundry hallway. It's a small but perfect little bathroom featuring a pedestal sink. With 3 toilets and 5 bathroom sinks, and a full-length mirrors in every bedroom, there is never anyone waiting on anything! Enjoy your morning coffee while soaking up the day's early sunrays on the front porch. The large covered porch deck is where you can sit at one of the two outdoor tables with a cuppa Joe and your phone, catching up on social media or just reading a book in the gentle warmth of the morning sunshine. Remember to wave to the golf cars as they pass; Colonial Beach is a golf-cart friendly community. Each morning when you awaken, you'll love going to the front porch, closing your eyes and soaking in the morning sun. This porch is a great place to gather every morning during your stay and a perfect spot for an at-home breakfast before a busy day at the beach. If you have rented a golf cart, It can be parked on the grass by the front porch or by the back deck. We even have a dog washing or foot washing station outside by the deck. Let's keep that sand outside! In the evening, you'll catch the last of the sun's glory as you sit around the back deck and enjoy the no-neighbor-out-back private setting. During the school year, you can watch the elementary school kids during recess. And with a back deck door directly into the house, it's easy to grab another cold one to continue enjoying time with friends on the back deck. No grill, no grilling. No firepits, no grilling, no fires. Both front and back decks are made of composite wood with vinyl railings and siding; there are a few steps up to both. There is a large unfenced backyard if you are bringing outdoor games. Neither the porch nor deck is gated. We stock the kitchen with quality colorful barware, utensils, and cookware, but you're just a short ride from Colonial Beach's cute local restaurants, bars, and breweries. Walk or golf-cart a couple blocks to the beach or cute shops if you wish, or take a quick bike ride over to the public beach if you prefer that vibe. We even have a water view sort-of: from the cross road at the home's driveway you can see the Potomac River shimmering just a short bit away. Walk toward the water and veer right to find the public beach just a short way away. Ride a bike or rent a golf cart for the best and easiest way to get to the public beach each day. This is our home away from home, and we treat it as such. You'll find it well-cared-for with quirky art, fine furnishings, and upscale bedding. We love fun barware and distinctive décor; nothing old or outmoded here, though we do have some cool vintage items in the house. Fun, contemporary, upscale vintage, and easy-peasy! The house is NOT child-proofed. Dogs are allowed if they do not get on furniture or bedding and if we are given info on them ahead of time. Come enjoy the house, the big old bungalow porch, the glorious sun deck, and the beach vibe of Colonial Beach! Come, be our guest! Check-in and check-out times are based on cleaning protocols and are difficult to move. If you need an earlier check in time, let us know and we will do our best, but make no promises. No partying please. No loud music and no outdoor guests after 10 pm. Outdoor bugs are possible anywhere so bring your spray. We keep ant spray inside and wasp/bee spray on the deck to help out if you find a stray bug, though we have a monthly pest control contract. Keep the doors shut to keep the flies out. We don't expect you to clean up at the end. Clean as you go, please. But, it's your vacation, for crying out load! When it is time to go, please put your dishes in the dishwasher and start it before you leave. You do not need to do the laundry. You do not have to strip the bed and can just put dirty towels and washcloths in a pile in the bath tub/shower or laundry room. Please note there are a few items marked "Not For Guests" or "Do Not Touch" in the home and we'd appreciate you letting those alone during the course of your stay. Please wipe down your spills to help keep pests away and use a trash bag in the bins (extras are left for you). A vacuum cleaner and broom is available for the guests to use if needed. No iron or ironing board at the house. Basic utensils and dishes for serving-eating-cooking are available, but if you need something specific please bring it. We have some cleaning supplies, napkins, toilet paper, and paper towels available for you, but you may need more if you have a longer stay planned or run out. We have the fastest and largest WIFI plan offered, but a large # of people using a lot of apps and platforms may slow the speed a bit. We have one 32" Roku television with no cable or air tv service, but WIFI is available in every room. Bring your Amazon, Netflix, etc. passwords. Roku TV and HBO is available free of charge. We have an exterior camera that automatically records video and audio similar to a RING doorbell. It records outdoor activity automatically for safety and security and sends the info to the cloud. We have our email and cell # all over the house in spots so you can call or text in an emergency. Pets: 2 dogs under 20 lb preferred; only non-aggressive and non-territorial dogs with no history of biting are allowed. Dogs may not get on furniture or beds. Please plan to clean up after your pet outside. Pet deposit is $125 per pet. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. No grills, candles, or open fires are allowed. Do not park in front of neighbor homes. We have automatic outdoor lighting. This is a no smoking property.

It was the perfect spot to go work from for a bit to be near water and get out of the hustle and bustle of the DC area! Absolutely loved the house and the town! A hidden gem.

Wonderful house!
My family stayed here for a long weekend for our first ever visit to Colonial Beach. The house was perfect for us. It was as clean as it could be and was well appointed. The owner was very responsive and even got us in the house a little early which was nice since we got to town early. I have no complaints at all. The only things I’d note is that the house is in what I’d consider a lower end part of town. Not necessarily somewhere I’d go walking my dog at night but it was always quiet in the evening where we were at. However, for the quality of the house itself, and price, I feel it was appropriate. It wasn’t a big deal, but there’s only one small tv in the home. We were only there at night after dinner but we did have avid tv watchers so if you have kids or need multiple TVs this could be an issue. Overall I’d highly recommend this house! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I just got back from a mother/daughter trip to Colonial Beach. We usually go a bit further south, but resort costs were ridiculous. Forget the resort! This house was wonderful as were the people of Colonial Beach! Diane was very communicative from the moment we arrived. She went above and beyond to make sure our stay was excellent. The lawn mowers did not show when she requested. We were fine with it. However, Diane hired another mower and he was there the next morning. She wanted to make sure the bugs did not eat up my dog’s feet. The house was IMMACULATE! It was the cleanest place I have ever stayed in! The photos online are exactly what you see when you walk in the front door. I am 6’0 tall and always need extra elbow room. There was an open floor plan and amazingly comfy leather chairs in the living room. The decor was gorgeous and I seriously can’t say enough about how comfy/homey the house was! The house is nestled on a quiet street close to Colonial Ave., which is one of the main streets. The water is a couple of blocks away, but you will need to drive a car or golf cart to get to the actual beach. It’s not a far walk if you are a city person. We used our car the whole time and there was no shortage of parking anywhere. Beach parking is $2 an hour with a $20 a day limit. which destroys the $30-$40 a day I pay at resorts. Do yourself a favor and stay at 820 Jackson St.! I will certainly be returning with my mom and hope to bring other family members too!

We had a great time. You have a beautiful house. Would b nice if there was a grill and if the backyard was totally fenced off. A bit disappointed that we were not allowed to wash beach towels..... we have rented several houses over the last few years at different lakes, rivers. Beaches..... I always wash all our laundry last night of vacation so we aren't taking a bunch of dirty laundry w us. Was not allowed to do that this time.

Great Stay
We had a wonderful time staying at Private Retreat. Diana was great to work with and helped us with anything we needed. The house was clean and welcoming. The beds were comfortable and the house was equipped with everything you’d need. It also has several items for sale if you forgot something or want to go shopping right in the house. Our family stayed for a week and rented a golf cart to get around town. Would recommend renting a golf cart. The location is convenient to everything. Would recommend staying at Private Retreat and visiting Colonial Beach. Small things to consider. We were not there to watch TV, however, we did find the 32” TV to be a little small for us. But not a huge deal. We totally understood the use of ring style cameras on the front and back porches, but we did find it awkward to use the porches. While I’m sure no one was “watching” it just felt awkward to know we were being recorded. All and all - it’s a great place and we’d stay there again.
