Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Cloonacool?
The best area to stay in Cloonacool is directly within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside for a peaceful retreat.

Cloonacool village is small but serves as the local hub. It features a church, a community centre, and a popular local pub. The River Moy, known for its excellent fishing, runs nearby. The village is surrounded by green fields and offers views of the Ox Mountains, providing a true sense of rural Ireland.

Couples looking for a quiet escape will appreciate staying in or just outside the village. You'll find cosy bed and breakfasts or self-catering cottages that offer a chance to relax, go for walks in the countryside, and enjoy the local hospitality at the pub. It's a great base for exploring the natural beauty of County Sligo.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities, particularly fishing, staying close to the River Moy is ideal. Many accommodations cater to anglers, offering facilities like tackle storage and advice on local fishing spots.
When is the best time to go to Cloonacool?
The best time to go to Cloonacool, County Sligo, Ireland, is during the summer months, from June to August, or in the shoulder seasons of May and September.

During these months, you'll experience the mildest weather, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C. This makes it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the area, such as hiking the Ox Mountains or enjoying a leisurely stroll along the River Moy. The longer daylight hours also mean more time for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Couples often find the shoulder seasons of May and September particularly appealing. The weather is still pleasant, but there are fewer crowds, allowing for a more intimate experience. You can enjoy the local pubs and restaurants without the summer rush and appreciate the tranquil landscapes at your own pace.

For families, the peak summer months offer the best chance for consistent good weather, which is great for outdoor adventures like cycling the Sligo Way or visiting nearby beaches.
