The hotel beds were the best I have ever slept on and I have travelled a lot! The hotel itself needed some TLC but it was safe, quiet, and comfortable. It was perfect for our family of 4. The owner was warm and welcoming. He even review his plans for renovations as he just purchased the hotel less than a year ago. I expect this place to be beautiful once the renovation are completed. I highly recommend this hotel!
The staff/owners here are incredibly friendly and helpful. The bed was soft, the room was clean and seemed relatively recently refurbished. The area doesn’t seem particularly nice, and there was some noise at night which woke me up.
The manager went out of his way to help us. We left our bags in the office because we arrived late in the evening from the train, and wanted to get food. When we came back to check in, he had taken our bags to our room for us. Such a nice man, and told us about things. This is a verynice place to stay.
I have worked for more than 15 years , managing and cleaning in motels.
When I made the booking online, the unit looked bright, clean and spacious. I took note of the room layout , size etc.
The room given ,was completely different from what I was led to believe I had booked.
It was small, cramped ,very dated, no nets on the bedroom windows, curtains hanging. Electrical tape over cracks in the bathroom door. Cracks in the walls and ceiling. An upside down shower mixer and thread bare shower curtain.
No milk was offered , we had to go ask at the office for the wifi password. The managers were nice enough but barely onsite.
One of our group checked out early being so disappointed with the room. I would never stay here again.
Manager very kindly arranged for late night checkin.

The property is a bit dated but the hosts more than make up for that. Had an issue with being given a studio unit rather than the one bedroom unit that was booked on this site but the hosts moved us to a bigger unit as soon as they could. Easy off street parking and convenient to the city centre.

Booking Cancelled
Unfortunately there was an issue with my room which meant my booking was cancelled but the team made good by booking me in to another motel which was a budget accommodation but apparently it was more expensive than my original booking at the Aotea Motel.
Some up dating of rooms. Ie new window latches.
Sturdy tv shelf. Up to date cook top.
All and all ok property just changed hands so i take it work in progress.
Management very nice
Would stay again if property up dated

Ok for short term stay
Comfort was ok but bed too hard for my liking. The rooms need updating with efficient heat pumps and appliances such as hairdryers. Also small maintenance jobs needing to be done, eg windows sealing to prevent cold coming in.

The rooms were very clean and the bedding was spotless. But my daughter had to swap beds because the first one was so uncomfortable. We couldn't sit on the sofa as it was very worn and felt like you were falling through it. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent.
The motel in general felt bit tired, and the fittings were very dated.
It was fine for a weekend where we didn't need to stay in all of the time, and convenient for getting into the cbd and to the competition we were attending.
