Chestnutridge Travel Guide

Tourist Guide

Return to nature at this small, unincorporated, rural community, which is set amid rugged forested terrain crisscrossed by hiking trails.

The small and sparsely populated settlement of Chestnutridge, Missouri, is surrounded by unspoiled landscapes. Stay here for easy access to forested parks with hiking trails and artificial lakes where recreational opportunities abound.

Chestnutridge takes its name from a line of chestnut trees, which was spotted nearby in the early 19th century. The community comprises a scattering of locally owned houses. There is no real town centre.

Chestnutridge’s biggest draw is its proximity to nature. Less than a 10-minute drive away is Busiek State Forest and Wildlife Area, a forested recreation area. Hike along trails leading past woodlands and glades, bring food to enjoy in the picnic area or practice your aim at the park’s unstaffed shooting range. If you want to camp here, obtain a permit in advance. Thrill-seekers will enjoy biking along 14 miles (23 kilometres) of trails and trying to do tricks at the Two Rivers Bike Park or hurtling from platform to platform in the forest canopy at Branson Zipline and Canopy Tours.

From Chestnutridge, drive just 20 minutes south to the popular tourist town of Branson. Watch a show on the Branson “Strip,” play golf in one of the well-maintained courses or participate in a range of recreational activities at nearby lakes. Fish on Lake Taneycomo and try water sports at Bull Shoals Lake and Table Rock Lake. The latter of these lakes has almost 800 miles (1,300 kilometres) of shoreline, including several swimming spots and a large sandy stretch called Moonshine Beach.

Take a break from outdoor adventure to sample locally made wines. Taste wines made from eight different Missouri grapes at the Bear Creek Wine Company.

The area around Chestnutridge is not served by public transportation. Rent a car so you can get around and explore with ease. Find Chestnutridge in Christian County, about a 20-minute drive south of Ozark and 40 minutes south of Springfield. The nearest airports are Springfield-Branson Regional Airport and Branson Airport.

"Outside really didn't look like the picture. It was concrete like. Parking is all down hill which makes it somewhat difficult to walk up and down to the car. We had a corner room so had good views but a little outdated. The sitting chair looked bad like something from an old garage sale maybe not ..."

"Very clean and well-maintained! Hailey at the front desk was extremely helpful. We arrived several hours before check-in time, and she helped us get into a room early.
