The hotel staff were amazing. However we did not have good service at the restaurant. We stopped in there for breakfast after 8am, they still had not unlocked the doors. After waiting at the door, a security guard unlocked them and let us in. We then stood at the counter for over 5 minutes, several employees looked at us and walked by us. We eventually left when it was obvious no one was going to take our order.

This may be my 10th visit to RodnReel. I go for a personal, writing getaway at least twice a year. I go for its location on the Chesapeake Bay and small town charm. The construction has dampened the experience as you can no longer walk to the beach and it is noisy during the day. It also would be cool if room rates could be reduced if you go during the week- when most of the constructions happen.

I booked a room with a bay view but got a room with a view directly overlooking a large construction site. The construction workers were drilling and throwing metal roofing around well after 9pm. I asked the front desk if they could please move me away from the construction, as I came there for a little peace and solitude. They offered to move me to a room with a view of the forest "free of charge". Well, I booked a room which would allow me to have a glimpse of the water, not trees! They did not offer apologies for the inconvenience or for my peace being disturbed for the evening. They did not say the hotel is at capacity (it did not appear to be busy at all); none of that. My inconvenience was addressed by them offering me an upgrade to a bay view junior suite...for a $50 upcharge! I must not fail to mention that the junior suite was in drastic need of an update, which is hopefully coming post-construction. Unfortunately, there was no manager on duty that night, so the next morning as I checked out, I asked the manager if he was aware of the issue. His response was yes, but you paid for a room with a partial view. He gave me my receipt which included the upcharge, and I went about my day. The opportunity for this hotel to 'service' the customer was an epic fail. They were not rude, but as a customer, I feel as though they could have cared less whether I had a good experience, or if I would ever return.

When I looked at your booking from Expedia it was for the room type DV which has a partial view of the bay which was the room that was assigned, and had a limited view of the bay and our beach area. The room category that you reserved is very limited, and therefor the property did not have that room type to move you to. The rod and reel is currently undergoing major construction and as a result does not have access to normal amenities—access to beach is through the back next to a chain link fence, carts and sheds. The pool is closed. The restaurants aren’t open, and the beach access is in the middle of a construction site but they still charge $20 a day resort fee. In addition, with plenty of rooms clean and available, we asked for early check in and a $30 fee was charged and though rooms with balconies were readily available, they were not offered. The fees are the fees and they can choose to run a business that way—but it definitely does not want to make me come back to a place so clearly focused on fees and not guest comfort and return business. The rooms were fine—clean but dated, with chipped paint, dated bathrooms and fixtures. I would not say it was a good value for the price. The rooms we

Bad timing. The resort was undergoing significant renovation when I visited. So bad that I had to cut short my stay and forfeited the cost. No one in the establishment cared enough to ask why or express any concerns that I cut short my stay. That's not how I would run a resort.

The hotel is a nice hotel and front desk staff are very nice and welcoming. My only suggestion is that they need to improve housekeeping. This is done on alternate days of your stay. They should at least refill water and change towels.

The girl at the front desk Lisa, was so nice and actually gave us an upgrade in our room because it was available and it was my wife's birthday. We had such a great time she even helped us find bars and restaurants in the area that we would it was just a great great experience. Also the girl that worked at night Anita, is so nice and it was good being able to talk to her about the area around. All in all we are so glad that we chose rod and reel resort to come to, and we will definitely be back. I score this resort five stars overall as a destination get away and have a really good time. I personally want to say thank you to all the staff for letting this be a rememberable trip.

Still under construction. Rooms can use some updating. The decor is old. The first time I stayed there almost 13 years ago. I thought it was fantastic. It stale now. Need an upgrade. This stay was noisy with children thumping and bumping around in their nearby room. On Friday night it continued pass the “ Quiet Time “ even up till 2:00 am. Once I finally got to sleep . Then we were awakened at 4:00 am by the fire alarm. We chose to check out at 4:15 am since we were up. Not the Anniversary trip we planned. Disappointed! ☹️

The property is undergoing a renovation so the beach area is unavailable and parking is inconvenient, especially if you are elderly or disabled. Dining facility is a significant distance from the hotel entrance and there is no room service available.

It was nice, the staff was excellent! They upgraded our room since it was our 30th wedding anniversary weekend. It was quiet but in all fairness, it is off season so not much going on. The indoor pool was closed but that was due to remodeling. All in all, it was a nice stay but I'm sure it will be better once the renovations are done. We will plan to go back .

We absolutely enjoyed the view from our room. The room was very clean. The beds definitely need updated. Aside from the beds, everything was of great quality and the staff was excellent.

It’s a nice hotel but they have changed a few things and there’s no assistance for handicap with all the construction, parking is to far from front of hotel and they stop the breakfast in the lobby in the morning

Uneventful Stay
Stay was to provide a place to sleep while we visited our grand-kids. Wife could not reach toilet paper from commode. No table and chairs in room to eat at. No complimentary breakfast. Construction project underway leaving a long walk to the entrance. No drawers in nite stands.
