But generally speaking, if you’ve booked your package in the last 24 hours, you may be able to cancel or amend your itinerary for free. If it’s more than 24 hours, your airline, hotel or car rental company may charge a fee.

If you’re thinking of staying in the Chengdu City Centre neighbourhood, some great options are Sofitel Chengdu Taihe and Intercontinental Residences Chengdu City Centre, an IHG Hotel. Wuhou is another favourite Chengdu area. We recommend Renaissance Chengdu Hotel or Chengdu Marriott Hotel Financial Centre if you choose this part of town.

If travelling for less is your priority, December is the best time to escape to Chengdu. February is generally the most expensive month, so you’ll need a bigger travel budget if you visit then. June, July, August are the high season months and when this destination is often at its best. Alternatively, consider December, February, October if you’d prefer a quieter getaway.

While prices change frequently, we generally advise reserving your seat as soon as possible. Many international airfares become available on Expedia up to a year in advance. If you’re booking late, you may still get lucky. Discount prices to Chengdu sometimes emerge only weeks before departure.
