Was a good night's stay. Julia and Ryan were very friendly hosts and run a nice smooth operation. While I didn't have any of their main meals, what I saw that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. I did have a sticky date pudding which was divine. The morning after I took a short walk up the mountain track behind the lodge which gave excellent views of the surrounding landscape.
Absolutely worst experience!!! We were treated differently either because we were not white or because we were assumed to be “backpackers”.....maybe because we were a young couple(?)
We reached there at 9pm with only one hour of electricity (the electricity cuts off at 10pm)
We had paid for a double room but we were given single bunk beds instead. There was a room next door WITH THE DOUBLE BED we had paid for which was VACANT but the owner insisted it was booked out for someone else
When we tried to show our booking which had PICTURES of the double bed we had booked and paid for-the manager tried to tell us it was probably previous management or the website who had made a mistake in putting the wrong picture.
Even if that was true- we could sue them for false advertising!
The worst part is there is nothing else close by which forced us to swallow our pride and stay the night there. I think the manager knew that as well and took advantage of it
Very very disappointed with the attitude; we felt discriminated against and treated badly-which was our worst experience in NZ

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Great place in the mountains.
Very friendly staff & great food. Really enjoyed our stay.
Great place, great staff. Have previously ridden on their own MTB trails, right on their doorstep, but this time I had fun on the nearby Cragieburn MTB trails. Was also a great place to stop back in for a coffee etc after riding the trails the next day, with a great view of the area from the lodge. Looking forward to returning in Spring for another ride in the area, and another stay at the lodge.
